Maroma has utilized this rich cultural background and combined it with a very contemporary commitment to Earth-friendly product content and environmentally responsible manufacturing practices. This has resulted in a truly superior and diverse range of products.

eco-friendly products and production

Our head offices and manufacturing facilities are located in India, which is one of the most beautiful but densely populated countries in the world. As a consequence, we are particularly sensitive to environmental issues and are dedicated to helping reduce the degradation of our planet's natural resources. The ingredients used in the fabrication of our products are recyclable and abundantly present in nature or taken from renewable resources. We use a minimum of energy resources to produce our products. We control and recycle our waste, and for the packaging we always choose materials with minimal impact on the environment. Our fragrances are constituted with natural essential oils. However, some synthetic based fragrances may be used when that is a better solution to help preserve natural resources which are not easily renewable, or when they come from animal origins. Of course, our products are never tested on animals. All Maroma fragrances conform to the IFRA (International Fragrances Assoc., Brussels) guidelines & practice codes.

Our home in Auroville was founded some 40 years

ago on a once barren plateau that has since been transformed into lush green area in which a vital young city is progressively taking shape. Auroville itself is an international project dedicated to human unity and the advancement of society in a fair and non-sectarian fashion. The community now extends over some 80 settlements inhabited by about 1800 people from India and 30 other countries. The residents are involved in a wide range of projects including environmental regeneration research, organic farming, renewable energy, green construction technology, handicrafts and small eco-friendly industries.
These activities have become a major source of fair trade employment for the surrounding villages. Aurovillians also work

closely with these villages to improve their infrastructure plus educational and health care facilities. Maroma is the largest employer in Auroville and the biggest contributor.

Each year, 40% of Maroma's profits are returned to the community to further growth and development.

FAIR TRADE CERTIFICATION

Maroma USA is proud to announce that our parent company in India and it's manufacturing facility have received fair trade designation from FAIR TRADE FORUM-INDIA. FTF-I as the Indian national network, works in close coordination with the WORLD FAIR TRADE ORGANIZATION and is also the Indian office of WFTO-ASIA.

A MEMBER OF FAIR TRADE FORUM INDIA

FAIR TRADE in India, is working for the overall development of producers, artisans and farmers by building up their capacity and promoting collective FAIR TRADE identity in the marketplace. FTF-I membership collectively offers a diverse variety of products to consumers. All these goods are produced with dignity and a continuing commitment to build up FAIR TRADE adherence at all levels. Maroma employs only adults (mostly women) from the local villages. To encourage schooling, they are required to complete their education prior to working for us. Salaries are higher than the local standard and benefits include a pleasant work atmosphere, reasonable hours, health care facilities, hygiene programs, nutritional snacks and savings plans. Positions at Maroma are much sought after by the area's residents and employees tend to stay with the company for many years. Official certification became effective April 2011. Receiving an almost perfect score in the FTF audit, MAROMA finds this recognition especially gratifying. Long before the term "FAIR TRADE" came into common usage, human unity and dignity were founding principals of our company and our community of Auroville.

Perfume oils
Made with our signature fragrances which are blended with natural essential oils, Maroma perfumes are highly concentrated. The bottles may be small but they contain numerous applications of perfume. Just apply a small amount to your wrist, neck or other pulse points and you are good to go for several hours. These perfumes contain no alcohol so remain vital much longer than standard perfumes. This year, we added a new Lavender perfume for a total of ten selections. As with all Maroma aromatic products, we have created a fresh take on this classic fragrance and adorned it with sparkling essential notes. The result is decidedly not your grandmother's Lavender. Because there is no alcohol in the formula, the fragrance does not dissolve but rests on the skin surface with prolonged vitality. Colibri's natural formula, which was developed by Maroma for use in closets and other storage areas, freshens and preserves with light, clean natural fragrances.
