Introduction Small Project Grants are available to nurse researchers at UCDMC. The purpose of this grant is to provide the initial or supplemental funds for conducting small research projects and/or funds for dissemination of research results. The maximum grant for the initial proposal is $500.00 with a one time renewal grant of $500.00 for a maximum award of $1000.00 per project. Researchers should have preliminary research results before using these funds to pay dissemination related expenses (e.g. travel expenses, cost of research poster, slides, handouts, etc). Recipients of these awards may be requested to present their findings at UCDMC educational forums including unit inservices, classes, and UCDMC sponsored conferences. In dissemination of any future results wether by poster, podium, other types of presentations or by publication, the researcher must include a statement acknowledging either partial or full funding by the Center for Nursing Research at the University of California, Davis Medical.
The grant will be rated using the following criteria and weighting using the proposal review form. Applicants should format and title each section as listed in the proposal review form. Grant proposals must be typed. The face sheet and budget may be handwritten. The A minimum score of 80 points will be required to receive grant funding. Preference for funding will be given to novice primary investigators and/or individuals who have not previously been awarded funds from the RDSPG committee. Grant Funding Grants will be funded for up to $500.00 for a project grant. Grant applications whose budget warrant a $500.00 award will be fully, rather than partially funded. A grant applicant who is not awarded a grant for the requested funding cycle may request that the grant application be kept on file and reviewed during the next funding cycle. Annual Grant Report Recipients of grant funding who have not completed their project within one year of the award are required to submit an annual grant report to the RDSPG Committee. The annual report should include a copy of the IRB renewal, a time line for study completion, and a cost accounting of funds used for the project. If an annual progress report is not received, the remaining funds may be redirected to the general fund to fund other research. Grant Dissemination Grant funds will be disseminated through a cost center set up by the Administrative Coordinator for Patient Care Services. Proposals that are still undergoing review by the Human Subjects Committee (HSC) will be awarded pending HSC APPROVAL. An information sheet on accessing and using grant money will be given to the applicant at the time of the award. Final Grant Report At the end of the funding period or within 3 months of data analysis completion, the investigator is required to submit a CHECKLIST SUMMARY to the Research Development and Project Grants Committee specifying: 1. Final cost accounting; 2. Study results; and 3. Plans for the dissemination of results to UCDMC staff, the professional community, and the public. When available, a copy of the published results should be sent to the Director or the Center for Nursing Research. Grant Renewals A primary investigator may apply for one grant renewal when additional funds are required for project completion. The application should include a one page typed summary of the following: 1. Progress of the research study, including initial findings, if available; 2. Expenditures from the last grant; and 3. Total amount requested with budget itemization, justification, time line, and anticipated completion date.
