The organizers of the 8th International Music Festival Maputo Mozambique 4th May Until 11th May 2012

For the past 7 years, we have watched young people in Mozambique become engaged and excited by music they have never been exposed to before. Through our International Music Festival, they have been introduced to the beauty of opera, theatrical and symphonic music via youthful talented musicians brought together for this annual event from all parts of the world.

The growth of our Festival has been phenomenal from 2005 to 2011. Due to our high performance standards, we have been able to build the Festival (from what might have become a one off venture) into a solid, well-organized and diverse annual musical event. We have captured followers from all sectors, young and old, rich and poor, without losing sight of our primary objective to educate a new public in the best of the classical canon. As part of our strategy, we have added acoustic jazz, world music, and opera to our classical music program, enabling us to attract a wider audience without overshadowing the importance of the formal classics. We believe that this cross-cultural exchange has provided an opportunity for Mozambiques young people to gain knowledge and better their chances of realizing their ambitions.

All this was make possible by the generous patronage of our sponsors

This years festival will be dedicated to the activist RUTH FIRST, born 4th May 1925 assassinated in Maputo in 1982

Following our past successes this year we are excited to add two new programs: an evening of classical ballet performed by two principal dancers from the Companhia Nacional de Bailado de Portugal, Carlos Pinillos and Filipa Castro, and highlights from the Broadway production West Side Story in an original and unique African context. For this show we are proud to engage once again the award-winning director, choreographer and teacher Greg Ganakas, who directed and enthusiastically collaborated with Mozambican students and singers during Porgy and Bess in 2010.
