Volume XXVII March, 2012 Number 9 REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, MARCH 8, 2012 The Board of Trustees: Approved minutes of previous meeting. Recognized Ms. Stacy McDaniel, 2012 District Teacher of the Year/Columbia Primary School Teacher of the Year; Mrs. Tandi Wells, Columbia Elementary School 2012 Teacher of the Year; Mrs. Stephanie Hughes, Jefferson Middle School 2012 Teacher of the Year; Mrs. Vickie Davis, Columbia High School 2012 Teacher of the Year; and Mrs. Kristi Johnson, 2012 District Parent of the Year. Recognized Mrs. Jennifer Branch, Mrs. Vickie Davis, Mrs. Shelly Dement, Mrs. Rhonda Gaughf, Mrs. Ashley Haddox, Mr. Rob Knight, and Mr. Tracy Winton, Columbia High School subject area teachers, for their contribution to the success of our students and our achievement of 2011 Columbia High School Star School. Received the monthly financial status report and heard a report from Mrs. Kim Rogers, Business Manager, on fiscal year 2013 budget development. Approved the claims docket for payment of accounts. Acknowledged the report on bus repairs/expenses and the monthly report on the use of school buses for special events. Approved assurances and acceptance of the approved 2011-2012 Title VI Rural School Grant in the amount of $38,394.31. Approved requests for permission to conduct the following fund raiser activities: Columbia High School Basketball Booster Club to hold Basketball Camp for students in grades 1 through 11 June 4-7, 2012, and to host a Summer Basketball League May 29 June 28, 2012. Accepted a gift of an InterWrite Board, 5 Mobi Learners, Exam View, and a Classroom Response System valued at $5,000.00. Mr. Joe Roney, 5th grade teacher, attended the MECA conference in February and won the grand prize from E-Instruction. Authorized 21st Century Community Learning Center teachers, principals, directors, and coordinators authorization to travel out-of-state to attend a two-day Ron Clark Academy Staff Development during summer break in Atlanta, GA.

Employee Newsletter Page 2 Gave first approval of School Board Policy JBOA-Hazing Prohibition and revisions to JBOBullying/Harassing Behavior Prohibition and EBH-Use of School Facilities. Accepted a bid received from Academic Technologies for the E-Rate Wireless Upgrade Project including authorization to enter into the E-Rate required contract with the company and assurance that necessary funds be budgeted for the 2013 fiscal year to pay the districts portion of expenses as required by the Schools and Libraries Division of the Universal Services (E-Rate). The District will proceed with the project only if it is funded by E-Rate. Granted authorization to hold Saturday School at Columbia High School on March 10, 17, 24, 31, April 21, 28, May 5 & 12, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. 12:00 noon for the purpose of allowing students to obtain credit in classes due to excessive absences during the 2011-12 school year. The cost per student will be $45.00 per day. Granted authorization to hold Columbia High Schools extended school year Credit Recovery June 11 July 19, 2012, for current Columbia High School students only. The cost per student will be $165.00 per Carnegie unit taken or $310.00 per 1 Carnegie unit taken. Granted authorization to hold Columbia High Schools summer school program Drivers Education June 11 July 19, 2012. Students will pay a fee of $165.00 per Carnegie unit. Approved the recommendation to expel and place three (3) students in the Districts Second Chance School/Alternative Program for the remainder of the 2011-2012 school year. Approved the recommendation to terminate a teacher assistant at Jefferson Middle School. Accepted employment resignations submitted by Angela Comer, sixth grade teacher at Jefferson Middle School, effective February 17, 2012, and Dessie Moses, cafeteria worker, effective May 25, 2012. Approved the employment of the following persons for the remainder of the 2011-2012 school year: Abigail Arnold as a sixth grade reading teacher at Jefferson Middle School (replacing Angela Comer), effective March 14, 2012; Debra R. Reynolds as a substitute teacher, effective March 7, 2012; Robert Knight and Tracy Winton as Columbia High Schools Saturday School Facilitators at the rate of $25.00 per hour; and High School Student Tutors listed below as after-school workers for the 21st Century Community Learning Center on an as needed basis at a rate of $9.00 per hour, effective March 1, 2012, pending approval of the amended 21st CCLC grant proposal.
