Renewable energy systems are a vital part of all our futures. Renewable energy is the term used to cover those energy flows that occur repeatedly in the environment, which can be harnessed for human benefit. The key sources of energy are the sun, gravity and the earths rotation. The UKs Government has committed that by 2020 at least 20% of all energy consumed in the UK will come from alternative and renewable energy sources. This applies to households, businesses, factories, and office premises.

How Our System Works

1. Daylight hits the solar modules, generating DC electricity 2. The DC electricity is fed into an inverter which converts it to 240v 3. The 240v electricity is fed into your home and your appliances 4. Surplus electricity is fed back into the National Grid

The identified sources of renewable energy includes: Solar photo voltaic for electricity Solar thermal panels for heating hot water Heat pumps Solarking UK specialise in all of these systems, providing appropriate solutions for our customers needs. Solarking UK has considerable experience of supplying, installing and providing a complete aftersales service across all of these systems. The key aspects of each system are as follows:

Solar Electricity Generating Panels

Every day the earth receives solar energy that is the equivalent to the electricity consumption of 5.9 BILLION PEOPLE for 27 years! Solar Photo Voltaic (PV) technology enables us to turn this energy into electricity. This transformation takes place without noise or gas emissions and is totally clean and green. A PV panel has no moving parts, has an unparalleled level of reliability and the output from the panels can be turned into electricity which can be fed into the electricity supply system of the building. The PV panels used by Solarking UK are not solely dependant on sunshine, they operate on daylight, gathering energy from direct radiation. Consequently, they work across the year, the sunnier the position the more electricity that can be generated: this often, but not always means positioning the panels on the south facing parts of the roof.

Solar Heating Panels

The principals outlined overleaf for solar energy can equally be applied for providing hot water systems. Solar Thermal water heating systems use the suns energy to heat the fluid in the panels on your roof. This can be used to supply heat to your general hot water system or something more specific such as a swimming pool. Intelligent energy solutions provide Solar water heating that will heat water on a cloudy day. When water heating is required, but sufficient energy from the sun is not available, it is usual for domestic systems to have a hot water back-up-system. A conventional boiler, combi boiler or heat pump heating system can then be used to add the extra heat the water requires. Depending on specific usage, we would expect a property specified solar thermal system to provide 75% of your hot water needs over one year.

Air Source Heat Pumps

Solarking UK supply install Air Heat Source Pumps. Heat pumps take heat from one location, upgrade the heat and then use this to heat water. This can provide a total heating solution throughout the year for both homes and commercial premises. Ground source heat pumps are very effective but require a relatively large amount of ground and a reasonable capital investment works. Air force heat pumps however, do not need this as they extract heat from the air rather than the ground. Air source heat pumps can provide heat for the following: Under Floor Heating Standard Radiators Domestic Hot Water Skirting Board Radiators Swimming Pools The heating system usually consists of a heat exchanger on the outside wall, this looks much like a typical air-conditioning system. They operate at more than 3 times the efficiency of a conventional heating system and as a result help minimise carbon emissions and reduce the heating costs of your property. This type of pump works all year round even when the air temperature outside is below freezing.

Financial Rewards
The UK Government has created financial schemes to reward the adoption of Renewable Energy systems. Currently, the two schemes are the Feed in Tariff (FiT) scheme for electricity generation and the Renewable Heat Incentive Scheme. The schemes work in similar ways, which provide a financial return for every unit of electricity (kWh) generated by your Renewable Energy system. These schemes are available to both residential and commercial installations and are both RPI-Indexed linked and guaranteed to be paid for 25 year period, tax free. It should also be noted that the VAT on all Renewable energy systems is at a lower rate of 5%. The outline of each scheme is as follows:

Feed in Tariff Scheme (FiT)

This scheme provides payment for every unit of electricity (kWh) that is generated by a solar PV system. Currently the rate per unit is at its highest level to encourage early adoption but this rate will be reduced in April 2012 and again in years. All PV schemes linked to the FiT scheme will be guaranteed for 25 years at the prevailing rate at the date of installation. All PV installations, both private and commercial, are eligible. Residential installations will be up to 4 kWh, which will attract the highest rate of the FiT tariff. An average household could benefit by up to 1000 per annum from this scheme. Installed systems larger than 4 kWh will see proportionally higher returns. Commercial installations have a greater output generation capability, with installations above 4 kWh, giving higher returns for small and medium enterprises, housing associations, retailers, office buildings, hotels, farmers and rural businesses.

Renewable Heat Incentive Scheme (RHI)

The government has recently announced a simplified revenue generation programme, the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). This will start from the 1st of April 2011 but systems installed before this date will be eligible, subject to compliance. The scheme will apply to Solar Thermal Hot Water Systems where a rate of 18p per kWh of output is generated. In addition, the RHI scheme gives a payment of 7p/kWh for Air Source Heat Pump systems. For a typical installation, this will equate to a payment of around 1175 per year, tax free; this is in addition to the energy savings made due to the heat pump.

Additional Financial Rewards

The income from the Feed In Tariff is based on the generation of electricity through the Solar PV system; this electricity can be used in the home or commercial businesses, completely free of charge. This will have a significant impact in reducing your electricity bills. The Solar PV system will generally provide more electricity than you will use, this surplus electricity can be exported into the National Grid; this can be monitored by an Export Meter. Instead of taking and paying for electricity from your supplier you will be rewarded for contributing electricity. For every unit (kWh) you Export you will receive a payment from your electricity supplier, which is usually a set 50:50 split based on generated output of a Solar PV system.

In Conclusion
Overall there are significant rewards available to encourage you to make a contribution to the future well-being of our planet by adopting renewable energy systems in your home, office or business. Costs for todays conventional forms of energy will continue to rise; a recent report from Ernest and Young put this inflation figure at 12.9% per annum. If you spend 1000 this year on your energy bills, next year it will be 1129 There is an alternative, which will not only significantly reduce this figure, but also provide you with a very attractive return on your investment (ROI) in Renewable Energy. Currently, this ROI is between 8% to 10% per annum. It was recently highlighted by the Sunday Times that investment in Renewable Energy is one of the Top 5 investments you could make.
