Review of Australian Standards. To keep abreast of progress in industry, Australian Standards are subject
to periodic review and are kept up to date by the issue of amendments or new editions as necessary. It is
important therefore that Standards users ensure that they are in possession of the latest edition, and any
amendments thereto.
Full detail s of all Australian Standards and related publications will be found in the Standards Australi a
Catalogue of Publications; this information is supplemented each month by the magazine ‘The Australian
Standard’, which subscribing members receive, and which gives details of new publications, new editi ons
and amendments, and of wit hdrawn Standards.
Suggestions for improvements to Australian Standards, addressed to the head office of Standards Australia,
are welcomed. Notification of any inaccuracy or ambiguity found in an Australian Standard should be made
without delay in order that the matter may be investigated and appropriate acti on taken.

PREFACE
This Standard was prepared by the Standards Australia Committee EL/9, Rotating Electrical
Machinery to supersede AS 1359.50 — 1983, General requirements for rotating electrical machines,
Part 50: Vibration limits. It is identical to and is reproduced from IEC 34-14:1996, Rotating
electrical machines, Part 14: Mechanical vibration of certain machines with shaft heights 56 mm
and higher— Measurement, evaluation and limits of vibration.
This Standard is a Part of the AS 1359 series listed in AS 1359.0, Part titled: Introduction and list
of Parts.
The objective of this Standard is to provide the rotating electrical machine industry with standard
methods of measurement and limits of vibration for rotating electrical machines.
As this Standard is reproduced from an International Standard, the following applies:

AUSTRALIAN STANDARD
Part 114:
Vibration measurement and limits
This is a free 7 page sample. Access the full version at http://infostore.saiglobal.com.
This part of IEC 34 specifies the vibration test procedures and limits for certain electrical
machines under specified conditions, when uncoupled from any load or prime mover.
It is applicable to d.c. and three-phase a.c. machines, with shaft heights 56 mm and higher
and a rated output up to 50 MW, at nominal speeds from 600 rev/min up to and including
3600 rev/min.
For vertical machines and flange-mounted machines, this standard is only applicable to those
machines that are measured in a state of free suspension.
This standard is not applicable to machines mounted in situ, three-phase commutator motors,
single-phase machines, three-phase machines operated on single-phase systems, vertical
water power generators, permanent magnet generators, or series-wound d.c. machines.
NOTE — For machines measured in situ refer to ISO 10816-1 (basic document).
