Foreword
Indeed, all praise belongs to Allah. We praise Him, seek His Aid and His Forgiveness and we seek refuge in Allah from the evil of ourselves and from the evil of our actions. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can misguide, and whomsoever Allah misguides none can guide thereafter. I bear witness that there is no god except Allah (nothing has the right to be worshipped except Him), who is alone without partners, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. O you who believe! Fear Allah as He should be feared and die not except that you are Muslims. [Aal-i-'Imran 3:102] O Mankind! Fear your Lord, Who created you from a single soul (Adam) and from him created his partner (Hawwa, Eve) and from them both sent forth and scattered many men and women. So fear Allah through whom you demand your mutual rights and by the reverence of the wombs that bore you. For Allah is ever watchful over you. [Nisa' 4:l] O you who believe! Fear Allah and say a truthful word. He will direct you to do righteous actions and will forgive you your sins. Whosoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has already attained the highest success.[Ahzab 33:70-71] To proceed: Indeed the best speech is the Book of Allah and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad, peace and blessing be upon him. The worst of affairs are the invented matters, for every newly invented matter is an innovation and every innovation is misguidance and every misguidance is in Hellfire.

I gave a speech about this subject some years ago and decided to transcribe it and add some points for advancing discussion on these vital and controversial matters. The reader should remember that this title is in the form of a question and not a statement, and thus remains under investigation according to learned interpretations of the texts of the Qur`an and Sunnah and the saying of the eminent scholars. It revolves around a speculation that is based upon the proofs that appear to indicate the possibility of the conclusion derived, and Allah knows best, and is not a statement of other than possibility. We are merely seeking knowledge and understanding, to increase our faith, understanding, and sincere practice of Allahs religion. Of course the larger goal is to increase awareness of the major and minor signs of the Last Day, leading us to worship Allah the Exalted with increased love, hope, fear and respect, and leading us to repent from our sins and misdeeds before the opportunity lapses. It must be noted that there is no coercion in Islam, for truth and right guidance is clear from falsehood and deviations, and those things for which we are uncertain and doubtful and seeking to understand are referred back to the Sovereign Lord Creator and the One and only God of the entire universe, Allah (THE ONE GOD), may Allah be ever exalted and gloried. The one sure thing is that Allah alone is worthy of worship, and we are Allahs creatures, slaves and worshippers, seeking guidance and mercy. Introduction: Great Signs of the coming of the Hour of Resurrection

Yaum Al-Qiymah ( ) is the Day of Resurrection, literally day of of standing up, when all mankind will be resurrected and will stand up before Allah, the One and Only Creator, Lord, Master, Sovereign and God of the Universe, for His perfect Judgment upon their faith, intentions and deeds in life. Then they will proceed to Paradise by His Infinite Mercy, or to Hellfire by His Perfect Justice. No one knows the exact hour and day of resurrection as this is reserved exclusively for the Almighty Allah and even the close Archangels and Prophets do not know, for as Allah says: They ask you, about the Hour; about its arrival: say, the knowledge of it is only with my Lord: none will reveal its time except Him. Its burden is heavy upon the heavens and the earth. It will not come upon you except unexpectedly. They ask you as if you are know about it. Say, Its knowledge is only with Allah, but most of the people do not know. [Al-Araf; 7:187] Before the coming of the Hour and that Great Day there will signs and portents, and these have been mentioned in the verses of the Quran, the exact words of Allah, and authentic narrations of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessing of Allah be upon him and his family and faithful followers. This subject was mentioned repeatedly by the Prophet peace and blessing of Allah be upon him, and in one revealing narration Hudthafah may Allah be pleased with him, says: One day the Prophet, peace and blessing of Allah be upon him, prayed the dawn prayer and then ascended the Minbar (pulpit) and gave us a sermon until the time of the early afternoon prayer, then he descended and prayed the early afternoon prayer, then he ascended the Minbar and gave us a sermon until the time of the late afternoon prayer, then he descended and prayed the late afternoon prayer, then he ascended the Minbar and gave us a sermon until the time of the sunset prayer, and he informed us about what was and what will be and what is, and the most knowledge among us are the best in remembrance. 1 And in an even more explicit narration: The Prophet, peace and blessing of Allah be upon him, gave us a sermon and did not leave anything that will happen until; the day of resurrection except that he mentioned it.2 Of that which has been mentioned is that in the last days of the earth there will occur Ten Great Signs of the coming of the Hour of Resurrection in rapid succession of one another, for as the narrations says like beads falling off a broken thread. The Prophet of Allah, peace and blessing be upon him, said:

 The signs are like beads arranged on a string and the string will be broken and will fall one after another.1 And in another narration of similar meaning: The signs will appear one after another just as beads are next to each other on a chain.2 Hudhaifa ibn Usaid al-Ghufari may Allah be pleased with him, said: The Prophet of Allah, may peace and blessing be upon him, came to us as we were busy in a discussion). He said: What are you discussing? They said. We are discussing about the Last Hour. Thereupon he said: It will not come until you see ten signs beforehand. In this connection he mentioned the smoke, Dajjal, the beast, the rising of the sun from the west, the descent of Jesus son of Mary (Allah be pleased with him), the Gog and Magog, and landslides (or earthquakes) in three places, one in the east, one in the west and one in Arabia, and at the end a fire would burn forth from the Yemen driving people to the place of their assembly.3 According to this well known and authentic narration the great signs are ten, as follows: a great smoke, the appearance of the Dajjal (Great Liar, and the Anti-Christ), the appearance of a great Beast, rising of the sun from the west, the descent of Jesus son of Mary peace be upon him, the appearance of Yajooj and Majooj (Gog and Magog), three earthquakes appearance of a great fire from Aden (in Yemen) Other narrations indicate the coming of the Mahdi (rightly guided leader of the Prophets descendents), and some scholars include his coming as a great and major sign, whereas others include it only among the lesser and minor signs. Note that although all will be miraculous some of the signs are earthy and apparently of normal nature, and others celestial: some relate to humans, some to the earths environment, and some to the celestial bodies, and some a combination. After these sign are complete the Horn will be blown to strike dread in all living beings, then blown a second time to make all living creatures die, then blown a third time for Resurrection of all and their assembly for Judgment. Some scholars say that the blasts of the Horn are two: one for dread and death, and the other for resurrection. Many scholars say that the rising of the sun from the west is a latter sign of the sky, and therefore, many Muslims await some of the earthly signs which they believe will come first as an indication, like the coming of the Mahdi (rightly guide leader of the Prophets descendents, may the peace and blessing be upon him and his family), and the descent of Jesus, peace be upon him, to fight the Dajjal (anti-Christ) and those that follow him like the

seventy thousand Jews from Asfahan, and kill him in Palestine, along with many other details.1 What if the first sign was really this rising of the sun from the west? The Door of Repentance would be irreversibly closed, and the other signs would occur rapidly. Could it mean that they occur so very close together that to say that this or that was before or after another sign is without significant meaning? Allah knows best. There will be great miraculous changes in the world which will make all people believe in Allah, in all His prophets, peace be upon them, in the Last Day, in Resurrection, in Judgment, and in Paradise for the righteous believers and in Hellfire for the rebellious and disbelievers. But after this particular sign of the rising of the sun from the west, no belief will benefit the soul unless previous belief with good deeds preceded the coming of the sign.

Some Lesser Signs of the Last Days

Before we engage the subject of the rising of the sun from the west, it is noticed that many of the lesser signs have already come and been proven true, while some are occurred or not for the news may not have reached us or we have misinterpreted the prophecies, and Allah knows best. Whatever the case may be, the following is an incomplete list of some of the signs that have prophesized according to well known narrations and this to repeat - is an incomplete list: 1. Allahs sending of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him); 2. The death of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). 3. The conquest of al-Quda (Jerusalem). 4. The plague of Amwaas (Emmaus), a city in Palestine, which occurred in the time of the companions 5. Widespread wealth to the extent that people did not feel the need to seek to receive charity. 6. The appearance of Fitan (sedition, tribulations), meaning the divisions and sectarianism that appeared among the Muslims. 7. The emergence of claimants to Prophethood, such as the liar Musailimah and al-Aswad al-Anasi, and others after them; 8. The appearance of fire in the Hijaaz, which appeared in the middle of the 7th century AH, in 654 AH; 9. Loss of trust, which includes people being entrusted to those who are not qualified; 10. The taking away of knowledge and the prevalence of ignorance; 11. The spread of Zina (adultery and fornication and promiscuity) 12. The spread of Riba (usury, interest) 13. Widespread usage of musical instruments, and taking them as lawful. 14. Widespread drinking of alcohol and intoxicants, and taking them as lawful. 15. Shepherds who are destitute and poorly clothed competing in the construction of tall buildings.

Appearance of women who are clothed, yet as if naked. 21. Believers dreams coming true. 22. Widespread giving of false testimony, and the concealment of true testimony. 23. Large numbers of women as compared to men. 24. The land of the Arabs becoming, once again, meadows and rivers. 25. The Euphrates will uncover a mountain of gold. 26. Wild animals and inanimate objects will speak to people. 27. The Romans will increase in number, and fight the Muslims. 28. The conquest of Constantinople. Number 15 & 16 are of particular interest since they have without doubt occurred in our own lifetime before our eyes, for the famous narration of the of the Prophet, which is narrated by Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, when he said, One day while we were sitting with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessing of Allah be upon him, a man came up to us whose clothes were extremely white, whose hair was extremely black, upon whom traces of traveling could not be seen, and whom none of us knew, until he sat down close to the Prophet, peace and blessing of Allah be upon him, so that he rested his knees upon his knees and placed his two hands upon his thighs and said, Muhammad, tell me about Islam. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessing of Allah be upon him, said, Islam is that you testify and witness that there is no god except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and you establish the prayer (Salat), and you give the Charity (Zakat), and you fast Ramadan, and you perform the Pilgrimage (Hajj) to the House if you are able to take a way to it. He said, You have told the truth, and we were amazed at him asking him and then telling him that he told the truth. He said, Tell me about faith (Iman). He said, That you affirm Allah, His Angels, His books, His Messengers, and the Last Day, and that you affirm the Decree, the good of it and the bad of it. He said, You have told the truth. He said, 'Tell me about excellence (Ihsan). He said, 'That you worship Allah as if you see Him, for if you don't see Him then truly He sees you.' He said, 'Tell me about the Hour.' He said, 'The one asked about it knows no more than the one asking.' He said, 'Then tell me about its signs.' He said, 'That the female slave should give birth to her mistress, and that you see poor, naked, barefoot shepherds of sheep and goats competing in making tall buildings.' He went away, and I remained some time. Then he asked, 'Umar, do you know who the questioner was?' I said, 'Allah and His Messenger know best.' He said, 'He was Gabriel (Jibreel) who came to you to teach you your religion (Deen). [Reported by Bal-Bukari and Muslim and others and this narration is Muslims] And in another authentic version

....If you see the barefooted, semi naked persons, those void of hearing void of speech, that they are the kings of the land, then that is of its portents.... (some part un-translated) There are many lessons in this important narration, and we are concerned with the signs of the last days, and the first sign mentioned here is interpreted by various views among the

scholars. Ibn Hajar indicates that the meaning is that there will be widespread disobedience among children, so that a child will treat his mother as a master treats his slave woman, with negligence and insults. Others have said that it indicates that the sons and daughters of slaves with become liberated and important influential personages of the society, commanding their mothers after being downgraded by slavery beforehand. Whichever interpretation is taken, this has occurred in recent history. The fact that destitute, nearnaked and shoeless shepherds will become rich and compete each other is building huge palaces and buildings is a fact of the Arabian Peninsula after the wealth of the oil boom years, and I have personally been told by a long time resident of Madinah in the Kingdom Saudi Arabia that he remembers when the highest building were mostly only three stories high. And another said: I know forty of them (i.e. the former shepherds now with large building in their ownership). The subject of showing the truth of the Prophets prophecies, peace and blessing of Allah be upon him, is extensive and rewarding but I only wanted to mention some of these signs as an indication of the enormity of the subject. As a proof of this just look at the following picture and chart of Mecca. I personally remember when I resided there in my years of study that there were only a few larger buildings around the Haram of Mecca and Haram of Madina, and of course they were only around ten or so stories high, and this was before the boom of development and construction in the 1980s and 1990s. And this was before the royal palaces where built on the mountains: one on the mountain near Marwa in Mecca, and the other on mountain past the limits Madina going north past Jurf. The largest building in the world now 1433 H [2011-11-29 CE] is in Dubai, and the second tallest is in the holy and honored city of Mecca, as you see in the following picture and comparison chart:

Here below is the Mosque of the Prophet in Madinah, may the salutations of Allahs peace and blessings be upon him, sometime after I first came to study in Madinah (1980s CE) for I remember walking to the Blessed Masjid through the neighborhood of mud and tree trunk houses (in top of picture), and I also remember when they torn down some markets and erected the sun shades on right of Masjd, in preparations to expand the current expansion of only some years ago. Glory be to Allah for His signs in His creation.

As I said, lengthy commentary is not necessary, for the astonishing proof is before our eyes and ears, and there are many other proofs, may Allah be Exalted.

Rising of the Sun from the West in the Quran and Sunnah
First we will cite the Quranic verse that indicates the rising of the sun from the west, then some of the narrations which clarify this, then some narrations that indicate that this is the first great sign, then conclude. Allah the Exalted said: Do they then wait for anything other than that the angels should come to them, or that your Lord should come, or that some of the Signs of your Lord should come (i.e. portents of the Hour). The day that some of the Signs of your Lord do come, no good will it do to a person to believe then, if he had believed not before, nor earned good (by performing deeds of righteousness) through his Faith. Say: "Wait you! We (too) are waiting." [6:158] Authentic narrations explain that this is indicating the day that the sun will rise from the west, its normal setting place, to prove Allahs miraculous power over His creation. For instance Imam al-Bukhari and others report this following narration. . : " " } {. : " " () The Messenger of Allah said, peace and blessings be upon him: The Hour will not be established until the sun rises from the West. When the people see it, then whoever will be living on the surface of the earth will have faith, and that is (the time) When no good will it do to a soul to believe then, if it believed not before. [6.158] 1 And another narration on Abu Dtharr, may Allah be pleased with him, wherein he said: : : : ...! : " . : : ". I was riding behind the Prophet on the same donkey at the time of the setting of the sun, when he asked me: O Aba Dtharr, do you know where the sum goes when it disappears? I Said Allah and His Messenger know best. He said: It goes to a reddish spring and there it prostrates to its Lord, under the Throne, then when the time of its rising approaches it is given permission and it rises. When Allah wants it to rise from its setting place in the west it will be held back and it will then say (to Allah), O Lord the distance it very far. Allah will say: Go and rise form your place of setting. That is when no good will it do to a soul to believe then, if it believed not before. 2 The Messenger of Allah said, may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him: :

". " Whoever repents before the sun rises from its setting place in the west then Allah will accept his repent on him. 1 He also said, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him: : " ". Allah stretches forth His hand in the night for the sinners of the day to repent, and starches forth His hand in the day for the sinners of the night to repent, until the sun rises in the west. 2 He also said, may Allahs peace and blessings be upon him: : "." The Emigration (in the way of Allah) will not cease until repentance ceases, and repentance will not cease (to be accepted) until the sun rises in the west. 3 This is further explained by another narration on the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: : . ". There are two traits about Emigration (in the way of Allah): the first is to go away from sins and evil deeds, and the other is to go to Allah and His Messenger. The Emigration (in the way of Allah) will not cease until repentance it not accepted any more, and repentance will be accepted until the sun rises in the west. When it rises in the west every heart will be imprinted and sealed with what is in it, and the deeds of people will suffice them (i.e. that were done previously). 4 This is explained that the believers will continue to get reward but the disbelievers and hypocrites will get no credit for what good deeds they do after seeing this great sign. There are numerous other narrations about the rising of the sun form the west but this above will suffice here.

Proofs that the Sun from the West may be the first great sign of the Hour, and Allah knows best
Now we move on to the next section of this treatise. What are the proofs of this bold assertion, that the first great sign will be the miraculous rising of the sun from the west? First Proof: Abdullah ibn Amru ibn Aas, may Allah be pleased with him, said: : " ".

I memorized a saying of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessing of Allah be upon him, and I have not forgotten it. I heard him say: The first (great) sign (of the approach of Resurrection) will be the rising of the sun from the west and the coming of the Dabbat-alArd (Beast of the Earth) in the early part of the daylight. Whichever happens first the next is close by.1 Second Proof: We find a more detailed narration of Abdullah ibn Amr ibn Aas, may Allah be pleased with him, wherein he said: : : . : ." )( After the wording as the above narration, and the saying of the sub narrator and he used to read books (i.e. of the Jews and Christians), Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with him, said: I think that the first sign will be the rising of the sun from the west, and it is that every day it appears, it goes to under the Throne and prostrates and asks to be allowed to return and the permission is given for it to return. Then when Allah wishes for it to rise from the west, it will proceed with its routine and go to under the Throne and prostrate and ask to be allowed to return, and there will be silence and no answer. Then time of the night will lapse as Allah wishes and it will know that if it asks permission it will not reach its destination of the east, and will say: O Lord how far away is the east? How will I reach the people? Then the horizon will be as a circle, and ask to be permission to go back it will be said: From your place of setting go (and appear from there)! Then it will rise and appear from the west. The Abdullah read the verse: No good will it do to a person to believe then, if he had believed not before, nor earned good (by performing deeds of righteousness) through his Faith. [Reported by Muslim] This perception, that every night may be the last night of repentance, is one of the causes the extreme Tarheeb (devotional fear of Allah and His punishment), and its corollary is the extreme Targheeb (devotional hope of Allah and His rewards) of the authentic narrations that Allah descends every night during the last third part and asks is there any slave of Mine seeking repentance, mercy, and asking for blessing and sustenance. Third Proof: Abu Hurairah may Allah be pleased with him, said that the Prophet, peace and blessing of Allah be upon him, said: There are three things which, if they appear, No good will it do to a soul to believe in them then, if it believed not before nor earned righteousness through its faith. They are: the rising of the sun from the West, the Dajjal, and the Beast of the Earth.2 It is noteworthy here that this narration specifically mentions that after the Dajjal no repentance will be acceptable. Since many scholars have said that the first great sign is the appearance of the Dajjal, this adds weight to the extreme closeness of these three events. Along with the evidence above, the possibility is that this night and day is that amazing day

-24-hour period elongated, as Allah will - of great events. As we know the day in Islamic usage begins at sundown and continues until the next sundown. Some may raise the objection that the trial of the Dajjal entails testing of faith which means that one may be tempted from his faith and belief towards disbelief, and this supposedly means one may still make repentance. The narration apparently contradicts this understanding and informs us that when the Dajjal performs his many miraculous acts the time of repentance will have lapsed. A reasonable answer becomes that the rising of the sun from the west and the initial coming of the Dajjal, and also the Mahdi, will be very close together, and Allah knows best. Forth Proof: Abu Hurairah may Allah be pleased with him, said that the Prophet, peace and blessing of Allah be upon him, said: : Hasten to do good deeds before six things happen: the Dajjal, the smoke, the Beast, the rising of the sun from the West, general tribulation, and the (death) of one of you. Reported by Muslim and others. The command to hasten to do good deeds before these things seems to indicate that afterwards good deeds will not avail. This is obvious for the case of death. It is also obvious for the case of the rising of the sun from the West, the Dajjal, and the Beast, by the evidence of the revealed text above, and maybe this text indicates that the sign of the smoke is to be added. As for general tribulation (Fitnah) and killing (Harj) we find that Imam Muslim reports in the book of affliction and tribulation directly after this narration above, the narration that reads: () Worshipping during the period of widespread tribulation of killings is like emigration (Hijra) towards me.1 This narration gives the general instruction teaching us about the great virtue of remaining on the worship of Allah in these difficult times when many abandon worship for their concern about security for themselves. And Allah knows best. The Fifth Proof (by Combination of Quranic Verses and Prophetic Narrations) Many narrations mention the descent of Jesus peace be upon him, in the latter days as a great sign of the coming Resurrection, for instance, the narration of Abu Hurairrah, may Allah be pleased with him: " ." : 3448 ] : } { ] Verily by Him in whose hand my soul is (Allah the Creator) it will happen soon that th son of Mary will descend among you as a just ruler. He will break the crosses, kill the pigs, and abrogate the (payment of) Jizya. Wealth will become so bountiful at his time that no one will accept (charity). Until one prostration will be considered better than the entire world and everything in it. Then Abu Hurairrah, may Allah be pleased with him, said: Recite if you wish: And there is none of the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) but will believe in him before his death. And on the Day of Resurrection, he will be a witness against them. [4:159]2 This narration needs some minimal explanation. There are many proofs that Jesus Christ son of Mary, may the peace of Allah be upon him, was taken miraculously up by Allah into

Imam Ahmad, at-Tirmidthi and Ibn Majah also report this narration. Reported by Bukhari and many others, and mentioned as Mutawatir, reported by so many various narrators in numerous chains of narrators that it is physically impossible to be anything but authentic.

the sky and he will descend in the latter days as a great sign, and we need not mention them here. Upon his descent he will rule by Islamic law and follow the Muslim leader in prayer, as other narrations make clear. He will break the crosses and kill the pigs to show the Christians his extreme anger, and to prove to them that their false worship of him is void, and that they had sinfully changed the creed and laws of Moses and Jesus, may Allahs peace be upon them. He will abrogate the special poll tax for the protection of the Jews and Christians in the Muslim state -- in lieu of military and other services. Allah will bless this era with abundance after cleansing the earth and bringing forth it bounties. Special notice is taken about this one prostration, and here we have the crux of our point at hand. How is one prostration better than the entire world? The answer is, and Allah knows best, that this one prostration is the one that these people wished they had prostrated before the occurrence of the great signs of coming Resurrection, like the suns miraculous rising form the west since it would have proven their Iman. Without that one prostration those who had not prostrated previously, did not earn in their previous nominal Iman any good deeds, like Salat. The sun prostrates every time of rising and setting to Allah. It is Allahs perfect justice to close the door or repentance by this sign of the sun. There are narrations, but weak and in need of more study, that the Shaitan will cry in misery at this time since he senses the approaching eternal doom on himself and that he will hope vainly to be able to make one prostration to whatever Allah commands him. All disbelievers and hypocrites will believe upon this great sign, and wish to make prostrations to Allah, but Allah has closed the door to repentance. Moreover, this combination above is an obvious proof of the necessity of action and good deeds as a pillar in Iman (faith). These people will see the sign and believe, but that belief will not benefit them without there having the kind of previous belief wherein they earned good deeds. In other words, we know that the belief that is truly Islamic and beneficial is that which, by its inherent strength, propels a Muslim to do good deeds like prostrations to Allah with sincerity in Salat. A Muslim has may have weak Iman that doesnt hold him back from grievous and great sins, for which he is punishable. These sins are called lesser Kufr, like sins of anger, passion and greed, for example, murder, fornication, and stealing. They are not acts of greater Kufr, since sins of greater Kufr are categorically different in that they are Shirk, blasphemy, leaving and abandoning the worship of Allah, etc. In other words, they have an extreme degree of arrogance, pride, and selfishness attached to them, a love of themselves over and above the worship of Allah. If they had some belief it was so that it was destroyed and negated by acts of greater Kufr, which made that person become an apostate. Sixth Proof: Imam al-Bukhari reports the narration that the Messenger of Allah peace and blessings be upon him said: " : : ) ( " The Hour will not come until the following events have come to pass: two large groups will fight one another, and there will be many casualties; they will both be following the

same religious teaching. Nearly thirty Dajjals will appear, each of them falsely claiming to be a Messenger from Allah. Knowledge will disappear, earthquakes will increase, time will pass quickly, afflictions will appear, and Harj (ie killing) will increase. Wealth will increase, so that a wealthy man will worry because no one will accept his Zakat, and when he offers it to anyone the person will say, I am not in need of it. People will compete in constructing high buildings. When a man passes by someones grave, he will say, Would that I were in his place! The sun will rise from the west; when it rises and the people see it, they will believe, but, no good will it do to a soul to believe in them then, if it believed not before nor earned righteousness through its faith ... (Al-Anam 6:158) The Hour will come suddenly: when a man has milked his she-camel and taken away the milk, but he will not have time to drink it; before a man repairing a tank for his livestock will be able to put water in it for his animals; and before a man who has raised a morsel of food to his mouth will be able to eat it. This is not a conclusive proof but it is noticeable that in the context of these lesser signs the only great sign mentioned in the rising of the sun from the west, which may be an implicit indication of what was mentioned in the first two proofs, and Allah knows best.

Supporting evidences (and Allah knows best)

The fact that the rising of the sun from the west is the first sign would apparently reconcile and fit together with the narrations that say that the Mahdi will be made righteous and corrected miraculously in a night that Allah will prolong. In a narration reported by Imam Ahmad the Prophet peace and blessing of Allah be upon him said: Even if there remains of this world one day (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) Allah will extend that day so that a person from me, or from my Ahl al-Bait who has my name and his father has the name of my father. He will then fill the Earth with fairness and justice as it was filled with injustice and tyranny before then.1 In another narration reported by Imam Ahmad and ibn Majah the Prophet peace and blessing of Allah be upon him said: () The Mahdi is of us Ahl-al-Bait: Allah will rectify him in a night.2 Some narrations mention that before the sun rises from the west, the night proceeding will be prolonged until the believers will come rushing to the Masajid supplicating Allah, yet they are weak and not authenticated. This would also apparently reconcile and fit together with the authentic narrations [Muslim and others] about that the Dajjal that he has forty days wreaking havoc and corruption, and as the narrations says: ......

a day like a year, and a day like a month, and a day like a week, and the rest as normal days of yours 1 This means that his time for corruptions and havoc is 365 + 30 + 7 + 37 = 439 days, or one year 74 days, and Allah knows best. It is noteworthy that some narrations mention a half of year for the first day. Along with this all, another narration, although weak and not authenticated, indicates that it will not take place until the Massajid of the Muslims are in Salal-al-Fajr packed like they are in Jumuah, in other words, possibly and Allah knows best, after the great sign of the sun rising from the west which makes the nominal sinful Muslims come crying to the Mosques to be with the practicing Muslims. Ibn Katheer mentioned in a narration on Abdullah ibn Abu Uafa who said that he heard the Messenger of Allah peace and blessing be upon him say, "Verily a night will come upon the people which is equivalent of three of your nights. When it comes those that engage themselves in worship during the night will recognize it. One of them will stand in prayer, read his normal amount he was in the habit of reading) and then go to sleep. Thereafter he will wake up again and read his normal amount in prayer and go to sleep. Then this situation will alarm the people and they will begin to shout and call one another, saying: Whats happening? With fear they will come running to the Mosques. To their surprise they will see that the sun has risen from the west. When it reaches the middle of the sky it will return and set in the west. He said: That is when faith will not benefit anyone (who brings faith after seeing the sign).2 Whatever the actual case may be in those epic moments, the point is that huge convulsions in the celestial arrangements of night and day, either in reality or appearances, will take place as a sign for mankind.

Some Amazing Modern Scientific (and other) Observations

{{{Ongoing research and investigation here}}} In light of the Prophets revelations as mentioned above, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, various scientific theories, investigations and observations by advanced instruments that have been documented recently indicate the miraculous nature of these revelations. Yet who is awake, looking, and discerning, and who understands the import of the premonitions, and rushes to seek repentance from their Lord and Creator? Of course the information below doesnt state exactly as mentioned in the prophecies, but it does illuminate possibilities that are, collectively, startling. As always we return ultimate knowledge of the unseen and the future to the Sovereign of the Universe, for Allah knows best. We must note in introducing these observations that Islam categorically rejects the astrological premise that stars and heavenly bodies determine events on earth and in human affairs. To belief in astrology as a form of divination is considered an act of apostasy from Islam.3 But of course, Islam doesnt deny facts of astronomy the science and study of the celestial bodies and stars, and related sciences like astrophysics etc, and that the sun, moon and stars have their natural effects upon each other, for as we all know life on earth is dependent on water and sunlight, and tides are caused by the relationships of the earths and moons orbits and their gravitational and centrifugal forces, and so on and so forth concerning amazing celestial events and interrelationships. many experiments and researches are ongoing to prove or disprove them. There is no final all-encompassing scientific word about the universe, and this itself as a reality about the limitations of our knowledge and scientific observation. Points in this section that will be discussed below in brief summary form include: Sun cycles causing the sun to reverse its poles (which occurred recently); Solar flares (activity to increase in this cycle up to 2012); The Earths Magnetic Polar Drift, and Polar Reversal (projected to occur); The Earths magnetic field weakening (as recently observed as an ominous sign); Galactic explosions, gamma-ray bursts, and radiation; The Solar System and the search for the so-called Planet X Celestial alignments in the year 2012. Sun cycles causing the sun to reverse its poles (which occurred recently) NASA [National Aeronautics and Space Agency] reported in an article entitled The Sun Does a Flip, dated February 15, 2001 that the Sun's magnetic north pole, which was in the northern hemisphere just a few months ago, now points south. The Sun's magnetic poles will remain as they are now, with the north magnetic pole pointing through the Sun's southern hemisphere, until the year 2012 when they will reverse again. This transition happens, as far as we know, at the peak of every 11-year sunspot cycle Earths magnetic field also flips, but with less regularity. Consecutive reversals are spaced 5 thousand years to 50 million years apart. The last reversal happened 740,000 years ago. Some researchers think our planet is overdue for another one, but nobody knows exactly when the next reversal might occur.1 Solar flares (activity to increase in this cycle up to 2012) Solar Flares are powerful bursts of electromagnetic energy in the Sun's atmosphere. Solar flares are the most powerful explosions in the solar system. Packing a punch equal to a hundred million hydrogen bombs, they obliterate everything in their immediate vicinity. Not a single atom should remain intact. At least that's how it's supposed to work.

The National Academy of Sciences, under direction by NASA, has concluded the first economic data study on solar activity and the Earth. The report quantifies the effects fluctuations in the Sun's magnetic field have on our planet and is looking for ways to prevent damage from this "extreme space weather." The sun's solar cycle is known to be an 11-year cycle. Right now, the sun is near it's minimum amount of solar activity. NASA expects solar storms will increase in frequency and intensity between now and 2012, when it will again reach its "solar maximum."1 And we read from the NASA website, Many forecasters believe Solar Cycle 24 will be big and intense. Peaking in 2011 or 2012, the cycle to come could have significant impacts on telecommunications, air traffic, power grids and GPS systems. (And don't forget the Northern Lights!) The Earths Magnetic Polar Drift and Polar Reversal (projected to occur) John Roach says in a National Geographic article entitled Why Does Earth's Magnetic Field Flip? [September 27, 2004]: Our planet's magnetic field reverses about once every 200,000 years on average. However, the time between reversals is highly variable. The last time Earth's magnetic field flipped was 780,000 years ago, according to the geologic record of Earth's polarity. 1 Peter Olson, a geophysicist at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, said instabilities are causing Earth's magnetic field to weaken. Today the field is about 10 percent weaker than it was when German mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss first began measuring it in 1845. Some scientists speculate the field is headed for a reversal.2 Eugene D. Richard said: It is believed by the author that a reversal is imminent because of magnetic mapping done in 1980 and again in 2000. There was a significant increase in the reverse field in the year 2000 over the year 1980 (Ref:Scientific American, Volume 292, April 2005, Probing the Geodynamo, page 55) also the normal field is decreasing.3 "Right now, historic records show that the strength of the magnetic field is declining very rapidly. broad goal of our research is to provide some predictive capability for what could happen and what could be the signs of the next reversal."1 A NASA article states: And globally the magnetic field has weakened 10% since the 19th century. When this was mentioned by researchers at a recent meeting of the American Geophysical Union, many newspapers carried the story. A typical headline: "Is Earth's magnetic field collapsing?" Probably not. As remarkable as these changes sound, "they're mild compared to what Earth's magnetic field has done in the past," says University of California professor Gary Glatzmaier. Sometimes the field completely flips. The north and the south poles swap places. Such reversals, recorded in the magnetism of ancient rocks, are unpredictable. They come at irregular intervals averaging about 300,000 years; the last one was 780,000 years ago. Are we overdue for another? No one knows

of complicated magnetic field Earth has during the upheaval of a reversal. 1 Note that the article also says: They've also learned what happens during a magnetic flip. Reversals take a few thousand years to complete, but other scientists disagree and point to a rapid reversal. In an article entitled Sun's rays to roast Earth as poles flip, Gauthier Hulot of the Paris Geophysical Institute has discovered that the Earth's magnetic field seems to be disappearing most alarmingly near the poles, a clear sign that a flip may soon take place. Using satellite measurements of field variations over the past 20 years, Hulot plotted the currents of molten iron that generate Earth's magnetism deep underground and spotted huge whorls near the poles. Hulot believes these vortices rotate in a direction that reinforces a reverse magnetic field, and as they grow and proliferate these eddies will weaken the dominant field: the first steps toward a new polarity, he says. And as Scientific American reports this week, this interpretation has now been backed up by computer simulation studies. How long a reversal might last is a matter of scientific controversy, however. Records of past events, embedded in iron minerals in ancient lava beds, show some can last for thousands of years - during which time the planet will have been exposed to batterings from solar radiation. On the other hand, other researchers say some flips may have lasted only a few weeks. Exactly what will happen when Earth's magnetic field disappears prior to its re-emergence in a reversed orientation is also difficult to assess. Compasses would point to the wrong pole - a minor inconvenience. More importantly, low-orbiting satellites would be exposed to electromagnetic batterings, wrecking them. In addition, many species of migrating animals and birds - from swallows to wildebeests - rely on innate abilities to track Earth's magnetic field. Their fates are impossible to gauge. As to humans, our greatest risk would come from intense solar radiation bursts. Normally these are contained by the planet's magnetic field in space. As a result, satellites in low-Earth orbit are left vulnerable to that radiation as they pass over the region, known as the South Atlantic anomaly.The weakening -- if coupled with a subsequently large influx of radiation in the form of protons streaming from the sun -- can also affect the chemistry of the atmosphere, said Charles Jackman of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. evidence indicates that they are galactic, from within the Milky Way. On March 29, 2003 (at exactly 11:37:14.67 hrs UT) NASA's High Energy Transient Explorer (HETE-II) detected a very bright gamma-ray burst, as shown below.1

On March 21, 2008, A powerful gamma ray burst detected March 19th by NASA's Swift satellite has shattered the record for the most distant object that could be seen with the naked eye. "It was a whopper," says Swift principal investigator Neil Gehrels of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. "This blows away every gamma ray burst we've seen so far."2 Various theories are presented to explain these phenomenons, of which we are not concern with here, and some have forwarded the possibility that a nearby gamma-ray burst, although an exceedingly rare occurrence, could significantly affect the Earth's atmosphere and potentially cause severe damage to the biosphere. Gamma-ray bursts occur within the Milky Way galaxy every 100,0001,000,000 years.3

For many years we were told that the last plant in the solar system was Pluto, but Pluto has recently been downgraded to a dwarf planet and other dwarf planets have been discovered. This has spurring continual interest in what possibly lies outside known sightings, and speculation of some body that may have a very distance orbit. The Planet X discussions cite a September 10, 1984, U.S. News & World Report entitled: "Planet X - Is It Really Out There?" which reported that the NASA Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) [launched on January 26, 1983 and circling in a polar orbit 560 miles from the Earth] detected heat from an object about 50 billion miles away which was the subject of intense speculation. They also cite a NASA ARC [Ames Research Center] press release published in Newsweek on July 13, 1987, which disclosed that an eccentric 10th planet may or may not be orbiting the Sun. A claimed 1992 NASA report observed an object said to be the planet X by some- at 7 billion miles. They conclusion drawn by the believers in planet X is that is moving closer, and it come into solar system in the near future, some indicating the year CE 2012. An AP article on October 23, 1996 entitled New rebel planet found outside the solar system, said: A new planet that breaks all the rules about how and where planets form has been identified in orbit of a twin star about 70 light years from Earth in a constellation commonly known as the Northern Cross. The new planet has a roller coaster like orbit that swoops down close to its central star and then swings far out into frigid fringes, following a strange egg-shaped orbit that is unlike that of any other known planet. Those that envision this mysterious planet paint the picture as represented below saying that when it does finally come orbiting within the solar system again it will cause havoc to the electromagnetic and gravitational forces causing catastrophic changes. On February, 1999, J.B. Murray presented a paper to the Royal Astronomical Society entitled Arguments for the Presence of a Distant Large Undiscovered Solar System Planet. Murrays paper explored various explanations for what he called a non-random clustering of long-period comets, which his research concluded are aligned along a great circle inclined to both the elliptic and the Galactic plane. His paper examined the possibility that this non-random clustering was due to orbital perturbations by an undiscovered object orbiting within the distances of 30,000 to 50,000 au from the Sun. Murrays mathematical modeling predicted that the object would have a retrograde orbit inclined at 120 degrees.1 In an October 16, 1999 Economist article entitled X Marks the Spot, Drs. Murray and Matese, after looking at the orbits of approximately 300 long-period comets, have separately concluded that too many of them are coming from the same regions of space. They suggest that the galaxys tidal wobble is being modulated by the gravity of something big within the Oort Cloud itself.2 Astronomer Tom Van Flandern wonders if Planet X has actually exploded. In his book, Dark Matter, Missing Planets and New Comets Van Flandern wonders if this planet was responsible for disruption to the moons of Neptune. In his 1995 paper entitled Origins of Trans-Neptunian Asteroids, Van Flandern notes that a new asteroid belt has been discovered beyond Neptune, suggesting that Planet X may have exploded. Another recent discovery is of the dwarf planet 2003 UB313, or called Eris1 (Greek goddess of strife and disharmony). It is the largest known dwarf planet and 27% larger than Pluto. Astronomers envision the orbit of this body as below. 2

On 10th September 2005, a moon was discovered orbiting Eris, and has been officially named Dysnomia which translated from Greek means lawlessness. If Sedna and Eris and other dwarf planets have avoided detection and only recently been discovered, what also lurks about waiting for discovery? What about their orbits and movements? Is it beyond reason to suspect some object to have some of the characteristics of the proposed Planet X, or a rogue asteroid or comet, and cause some affects upon earth? Allah knows best. Celestial alignments in the year 2012 It is claimed by some that on the winter solstice of 2012 CE the earth will have an amazingly rare alignment of the our solar system, (sun, earth, moon etc) with the galactic equinox, lining up with the dark-rift, or Great Cleft and central plane, or in other words, aligning with the supper massive black hole at the center of our galaxy, the Milky Way. It is claimed that this will cause increased gravitational pull and other catastrophic events. One proponent of these ideas, John Major Jenkins, describes it an alignment of the solstice meridian with the Galactic equator - an astronomical fact.3 He defines the Galactic

Alignment as the alignment of the December solstice sun with the Galactic equator. This alignment occurs as a result of the precession of the equinoxes. Precession is caused by the earth wobbling very slowly on its axis and shifts the position of the equinoxes and solstices one degree every 71.5 years. Because the sun is one-half of a degree wide, it will take the December solstice sun 36 years to precess through the Galactic equator (see diagram below). The precise alignment of the solstice point (the precise center-point of the body of the sun as viewed from earth) with the Galactic equator was calculated to occur in 1998 (Jean Meeus, Mathematical Astronomy Morsels, 1997). Thus, the Galactic Alignment "zone" is 1998 +/- 18 years = 1980 - 2016. This is "era-2012." This Galactic Alignment occurs only once every 26,000 years, and was what the ancient Maya were pointing to with the 2012 end-date of their Long Count calendar.

These are the astronomical facts of the matter. From a larger perspective, we can visualize the 2012 Galactic Alignment in the following way:

Position A is where the December solstice sun was in relation to the Milky Way some 3,000 years ago. Position B is 1,500 years ago. And position C is "era-2012", when the December solstice sun has converged, as a result of the precession of the equinoxes, with the exact center-line of the Milky Way (the Galactic equator). Notice that the place of alignment is where the 'nuclear bulge' of the Galactic Center is located. Descriptions of the process are also there, but it should be noted that Nick describes what I refer to as "the solstice-galaxy alignment" with a preference for the equinox as the measuring reference. Thus, he speaks of the "Holy Cross" of the equinox axis and the Milky Way. The point is that "solstice-galaxy alignment" and "equinox-galaxy cross" refer to the same event. 1 Of course the above scenarios concerning the alleged Plant X and the so-called alignment are speculative analyses among many other views, some of which are

grandiosely outlandish, and there are numerous dissenters.1 It must be remembered that we are in no way presenting the above information and theories except for reflection and further inquiry. We do not endorse except proven scientific facts, and the undeniable texts of Islamic scriptures that have their own internal and external own proofs of truthfulness.

Some Amazing Prophecies, Ancient and Modern

Before discussing these prophecies, it is appropriate that we present a general rule in Islam. Muslims believe that many prophets of Allah have come in the history of man before the Last and Final Messenger and Prophet of Allah, Muhammad ibn Abdullah of the Quraish tribe of Arabia, peace and blessings be upon him and his family and faithful followers. Some of these prophets have been specifically mentioned in the Quran and Sunnah whereas many have not been named. Therefore we do not deny prophetic information from the People of the Book (the Jews and Christians) or from other traditions but use an established criterion to determine the truthfulness of the information and the possibility of truthfulness. The affirmed fact is that strict monotheism is the basic universal truth of the universe and all mankind. Polytheism, idolatry and blasphemy are all common corruptions of that truth. There is only one God worthy of worship who is the Lord, Creator, Master and God of the entire universe, and all the idols and false gods and worships are merely man made by imagination and devious trickeries and for the benefit of some creatures to exploit others. The majestic Quran and authentic Sunnah is the decisive criterion for discerning truth from falsehood since the revelations are verified as the miraculously true and uncorrupted revelation of God Almighty, whereas the previous revelation have suffered some changers and corruptions. The number of prophets in Islam is mentioned in the Quran by specifically naming 25 prophets, and there are a few more mentioned in the authentic Sunnah. The greatest of these Messengers are five: Nuh (Noah), Ibrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses), Esa (Jesus) and Muhammad may Allahs peace be upon them all. Yet we know there are more messengers and prophets and that Allah has not revealed their names or stories, for Allah said: Indeed We have sent you with the truth as a bringer of good tidings and a warner. And there was no nation but that there had passed within it a warner. [35:24] And in the narrations it is reported that the Prophet peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was asked by his companion Abi Dthar may Allah be pleased with him, who said: " : " Oh Messenger of Allah, How many messengers are there? He said: Three hundred and some number between 13 and 19, certainly a lot. And in a related narration: : " "

Oh Messenger of Allah, Exactly what is the number of the prophets? He said: One hundred twenty four thousand (124,000) and the Messengers from among them are three hundred and twenty five.1 By the fact that only 25 are mentioned in the Quran and a few more in the Sunnah, obviously there were many more of which we have no details. The possibility that corruptions took place in other traditions concerning their respective Prophets that were originally truthful, is definitely confirmed by the fact that horrendous corruptions took place after the Messenger and Prophet of Allah Abraham (Ibraheem), peace be upon him, from monotheism to idolatry and among his descendents the Semitics, of the Israelis and Arabs, as this is well know, and it is not necessary to present the details here. And another example is Jesus (Esa) the Messenger and Prophet of Allah, peace be upon him, who is today called by billions of Christians as the Son of God and worshiped as the Lord: is there a more obvious deviation from strict monotheism to idolatry and polytheism? The rules about our position concerning various information from the Bible is derived from the combination of the scriptures of the Quran and authentic Sunnah narrations, and to summarize, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Do not say that the People of the Book are being truthful, and do not say they are lying,2 meaning the Jews and Christians in their sacred books and sayings. And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, also said: Convey my information even if only one verse of the Qur`an, and narrate on the sons of Israel, and there is no harm in that. 3 Upon these texts and other Islamic scripture not mentioned here for sake of brevity, we say that the original Torah of Moses and original Gospel of Jesus, peace be upon both of them, were true revelation from God Almighty but afterwards the scribes, editors and others corrupted the texts and therefore we do not know for sure what is authentic and what is corrupted. The only criterion for truth is the revelation of God to the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, in the Qur`an and Sunnah, which as been preserved and protected from corruptions. As Allah Almighty said: And We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad] the Book [the Qur`an] in truth, confirming that which preceded it of the Scripture and as a criterion over it. [Surat-al-Madidah: 5:48] The criterion is a protection and witness of the truth, by which any clear corruptions of falsehood therein can be ascertained. Hence whatever is in the Bible can be of three types: <> (1) the parts of the Bible which agree 100% with the Quran and Sunnah: we can say that these parts are correct, like to believe in Allah who is One and not to take any idols for worship, and that there were prophets who were also Kings like David and Solomon peace be upon them, and that there are Angels, and the coming of the Last Day of Resurrection and Judgment, etc etc. <> (2) the parts of the Bible which disagree 100% with the Quran and Sunnah: we can say that these parts are falsehood and incorrect, like the fact that Jesus is the son of God, or we

are all the children of God, or that some prophets called to idolatry and sinfulness, etc et, and many of the other clearly false statements and mistakes in the Bible. <> (3) the parts of the Bible which are new information since neither the Quran and Sunnah have mentioned anything about these details, like many of the details about the stories of the prophets, and histories, and prophecies. For these parts we say Allahu Alim (God knows best), and do not say they are true nor do we say they are false, since we do not have a criterion to judge this way or that way. We may mention them according to the above mentioned points. As mentioned above, insomuch as that some previous prophecy may have been correct and inspired by God but then degenerated by corruptions into idolatry and chicanery, we reject all forms and all suggestions of idolatry and all false divination, astrology and soothsaying, and only seek what may have been original and truthful, and Allah knows best.
