(A) Electrical Engineering (EE) - 2-year (4-semester) Full time M. Tech. Course in the Department of Applied Physics. General eligibility: A candidate having first class or equivalent BE/ B. Tech. Degree in Electrical Engineering or its equivalent (as per CU rules) from any university / AICTE recognized institute is eligible to apply for admission in the said courses. Course in the Department of Applied Physics (Self Financed course) General Eligibility: A candidate having first class or equivalent in B.E./B.Tech Degree in Electrical Engineering or its equivalent (as per CU rules) from any university / AICTE recognized institute is eligible to apply for admission in the said courses. Seat: Non sponsored: 13 Sponsored: 5 (D) Instrumentation and Control Engineering (ICE-PT): 3-year (6-semester) Part time M. Tech. Courses in the Department of Applied Physics (Self Financed course) General Eligibility: A candidate having first class or equivalent B. E./B. Tech. Degree in Instrumentation Engineering or its equivalent from any university / AICTE recognized institute is eligible to apply for admission in the said courses. Seat: Non-sponsored: 13 Sponsored: 5 Single application form to be used with order of preference if eligible for the courses (A) & (C), and (B) & (D).

Admission Rules for M.Tech. in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering (Electrical Power) and Instrumentation & Control Engineering

(I) Essential Criteria (2 year Full time M.Tech courses) General Eligibility criteria for the courses (A) and (B) for Non-sponsored candidates are same as mentioned above. (a)The essential criteria for application in the 2-year M.Tech courses are: 1. C.U. B.Tech students of the current year (2012) eligible to get admission in the M.Tech course according to the marks obtained in the B.Tech Examination. 2. Non-CU applicants should have the following eligibility criteria: (i) Secured at least 75% marks or its equivalent grade in B.Tech level; (ii) Secured at least 70% or its equivalent grade in best four subjects in (10+2) level (iii) A valid GATE score. (b) Selection Procedure 1. Selection will be made on the basis of merit. 2. Current year (2012) C.U. students passing out on 2012 will be exempted from facing technical interview. Final merit list will be prepared on the basis of 70% weightage of marks obtained mentioned in GATE card (out of 100) and 30% weightage of B.Tech marks. 3. Non C.U. applicants and previous years CU B.Tech candidates: Short listed candidates will have to face a technical Interview. Final merit list will be prepared on the basis of 70% weightage of marks obtained mentioned in GATE card (out of 100) and 30% weightage of technical interview. Percentage of marks to be counted during the preparation of merit list (i) where percentage of marks mentioned in the marksheet (ii) where equation of conversion of percentage of marks available in the mark-sheet (iii) in all other cases percentage of marks will be calculated by the conversion of equation [i.e. (CGPA-0.5)10]. (II) Essential Criteria (3- year Part time M.Tech courses) General Eligibility criteria for the courses (C) and (D) for Non-sponsored candidates are same as mentioned above. (a) The essential criteria for application in the 3-year part time evening M.Tech courses are: (i) Secured at least first class or its equivalent grade in B.Tech level; (ii) Secured at least 60% or its equivalent grade in best four subjects in (10+2) level (iii) Passed out B.Tech on or after 2002. (iv) Only B.Tech passed out candidates are eligible to apply.

(b) Selection Procedure 1. Selection will be made on the basis of merit. 2. All short-listed candidates are to face a technical interview. Candidates in service will be given weightage. Final merit list will be prepared based on marks in interview (40%) + B.Tech marks (25%) + marks at HS or equivalent (10+2) level in best four subjects (25%) + Service (10%). Certificate of employment, duly signed by an appropriate authority in the following prescribed proforma (given below) must accompany the application form. Otherwise the application will not be considered. Format of employment Certificate (to be printed in organizations letter head) This is to certify that (name of the candidate).., s/ d of (fathers name). and resident of(full correspondence address). is a permanent/ temporary employee of this Company / Institute / Organization with the designation from ..(date of appointment)... He/She has applied for admission in 3 year M.Tech course in (name of the course)..in the University of Calcutta. (III) Reservation Rules 1. For C.U. previous year students, for 2yr M.Tech. courses, 10% seats of total number of Non-Sponsored seats are reserved. 2. Other University candidates (Non C.U.), for 2yr M.Tech. courses:- 5% of the total number of Non Sponsored seats is reserved for Non-C.U. candidates. 3. For Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates 22% and 6% respectively of total number of non sponsored seats will be reserved, respectively for all courses. A Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe student getting admission should obtain marks in the relevant last qualifying examination not lower than 25% than that obtained by the last candidate admitted from the general category (if applicable). 4. SC/ST candidates of domicile state are entitled to get the reservation facility i.e. SC/ST of other than West Bengal will not be considered for provisional admission in the SC/ST reserve seats. 5. SC/ST Candidates securing equal or higher marks than the last candidate admitted from the general category will be treated as General Category candidate. 6. Reservation and relaxation are as per University rules and practice 7. Physically Handicapped PH candidates having 40% and above degree of disability are entitled to get reservation (3% of total number of non sponsored seats for all courses) facility.

(IV) Sponsored seats: For 2-year and 3 year M.Tech courses, 5 seats in each of the courses are reserved for sponsored candidates. Sponsored Seat will be treated as additional seat and other reservation criteria (like C.U./Non-C.U./SC/ST/PH/Current year/previous year) are not applicable for sponsored seats. All short-listed sponsored candidates should have to face a technical interview. (a) For 2-year full time M.Tech courses, the essential eligibility criteria are as mentioned below: (i) Secured at least 75% marks or its equivalent grade in B.Tech level; (ii) Secured at least 70% or its equivalent grade in best four subjects in (10+2) level (iii) Passed out B.Tech on or after 2008. Final merit list will be prepared on the basis of marks obtained in technical interview. Candidates for 2 year M.Tech course sponsored by a Company/Institutions/Organization must submit the following: Certificates from their employers in the letterhead of the organization, duly signed by an appropriate authority, indicating: (i) That the applicant is an employee of that company / organization / institute. (ii) That the applicant (employee), if selected, will be provided leave of absence from the place of employment for the entire duration of study (2-years) of M.Tech course. (iii) That his/her tuition and other fees for the entire M.Tech course will be paid by the employer at the time of admission and the same will not be claimed back under any circumstances. Without the certificate, the application will not be considered. Format of Sponsorship Certificate (to be printed in organizations letter head) This is to certify that (name of the candidate).., s/ d of (fathers name). and resident of(full correspondence address). is a permanent/ temporary employee of this Company / Institute / Organization with the designation from ..(date of appointment)... He/She has applied for admission in 2 year / 3 year M.Tech course in (name of the course)..in the University of Calcutta. If he/ she is selected for the course, the Company / Institute / Organisation will pay his tuition and other fees. The organization, under no circumstances, will claim back the fees amount from University of Calcutta in future. The Company / Institute / Organisation will also grant him / her leave of absence from the place of employment for the entire duration of the course. (b) For 3-year part time M.Tech courses, the essential eligibility criteria are same as mentioned in admission rules (II). Final merit list will be prepared based on marks in interview (50%)+ B.Tech marks (25%) + marks at HS or equivalent (10+2) level in best four subjects (25%). Candidates for 3 year M.Tech course sponsored by a Company/Institutions/Organization must submit the following: Certificates from their employers in the letterhead of the organization, duly signed by an appropriate authority in the following format. Without the certificate, the application will not be considered. Format of Sponsorship Certificate (to be printed in organizations letter head) This is to certify that (name of the candidate).., s/ d of Sri (fathers name). and resident of(full correspondence address). is a permanent/ temporary employee of this Company / Institute / Organization with the designation from ..(date of appointment)... (V) GATE Scholarship Availability of GATE Fellowship is subject to fulfillment of Terms and Conditions framed time to time by the AICTE and the University, followed by disposal of fund from the AICTE. Sponsored candidate or candidates in 3 Yr. part time courses with valid GATE score certificate are not entitled for GATE fellowship

(VI) General 1. For Non-C.U. candidates after admission in M.Tech courses are required to submit Application for Registration in C.U. along with original Migration Certificate from parent University / Institute within one month from the date of admission. 2. Final year/semester appeared candidates are also eligible to apply but admission will be allowed subject to fulfillment of general and essential eligibility criteria as mentioned. 3. Admission of appeared candidates in last semester examination (if selected) will be made provisionally, subject to submission of passed/qualified marksheet of the last semester examination within 15 days from the date of publication of last semester examination result of his/her university. No backlog papers in the previous semester examination will be considered in such a case. Provisional admission of the unsuccessful candidates (failed/backlog) and passed with lower marks than that of eligibility criteria will be treated as cancelled and in that case fees for admission will be forfeited.

4. Vacant seat(s) of C.U. / Non-C.U. / C.U. current year / C.U. previous year / C.U. other discipline / PH / Sponsored etc. categories due to in sufficient suitable applicant may be filled by any other category suitable student available on the basis of merit. 5. Error/omission/ambiguity if any, be subject to change by the approval of the appropriate authority. 6. Any error / misinformation if detected at any stage of admission even after provisional admission, application will be treated as cancelled. Overlooking of any misinformation can not be claimed as right to admission. If the application doesnt match with the details of eligibility criteria of that course, the same will be will be treated as cancelled at that stage. 7. All other standard CU admission rules and practices are also applicable. 8. Preservation of documents related to admission of M.Tech courses will be made for one month from the date of publication of 1st selection list.
