WORLD CHAMPIONS VIRTUE/MOIR AND CHAN LEAD THE LINEUP AT THE 2012 SKATE CANADA INTERNATIONAL

WINDSOR, ON: Over the weekend the International Skating Union (ISU) announced the line-ups for the six ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating events. Canada will host the second stop on the circuit, the 2012 Skate Canada International in Windsor, Ontario from October 26-28, 2012 at the WFCU Centre. We are very excited to have three of the four world champions at the 2012 Skate Canada International. Skating fans in Windsor can look forward to seeing Canadian stars and current world champions Patrick Chan, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, as well as pair world champions Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy of Germany, said William Thompson, Skate Canada CEO. We also have a nice mix of veteran skaters as well as some young skaters who are looking to make their mark in Windsor. All of the skaters will be looking to collect valuable points on the circuit in order to qualify for the ISU Grand Prix Final in Sochi, Russia. We are pleased with the lineup that we will have in Windsor and with the Canadian spots we have secured at the other five events, said Mike Slipchuk, Skate Canada Director High Performance. The other events take place in the United States (Skate America), China (Cup of China), France (Trophe Eric Bompard), Russia (Rostelecom Cup) and Japan (NHK Trophy). Skaters are awarded points based on their placements in the series' events. The top-six men and ladies and the top-six pair and ice dance teams qualify for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final to be held in Sochi, Russia from December 6-9, 2012, site of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
