However, it is the opinion of people that heterosexuals are becoming very fearful, as homosexuals are everywhere exerting their influence, power and money on society. Political observers are also claiming that with several months to go before the presidential election, Obamas endorsement of gay marriage is a strategy to seek more votes as well as to fund his election campaign. much of the opposition stems from churches, which have long been important institutions in the black community. President Obama, who is said to be a practicing heterosexual and Christian, finally spoke up for the rights of gay couples. Gay marriage is an idea whose time has come. And according to Obama and many other people, it is the civil rights issue of our day.

he passing of the Queen of Disco, Donna Summer, born Donna Adrian Gaines in Boston, Massachusetts (my third home), rocked the world this past week. This iconic lady has left behind an enormous amount of hits that highlighted the rise of the womens revolutionary movement of the 1970s and 80s. Her struggle with lung cancer, unbeknownst to many, took her suddenly, but has left her hits such as "She Works Hard for the Money, Lets Dance" and my all time favourite, "Love to Love You Baby. With such powerful women as Donna Summer and others who have trailblazed the way for us to follow, can we truly say that in the year 2012 we are living the lives that they envisioned? Are we more or less liberated, especially sexually, than they were back in those days? Gloria Steinem, should we send you an I am so sorry card? The ultimate bad girl showed us that we could be sexually free without being promiscuous. That love and sex were two separate things, and also that we had the right to enjoy both. Unfortunately though, many of us are still living in the dark ages, where great sex is still something we should never experience. Our husbands and lovers are unsure of how to deal with us, as they themselves are still caught in the dark ages. They are caught gently between a rock and a hard place! Do they encourage us to be sexually free when they are in bed with us, or do they still need to be the king, the bedroom bully? Poor babies, as it truly must not be an easy position to be placed in! "What are you doing under the covers? my new man hesitantly asked me the other day early one Saturday morning. "What do you think? I asked him as I reached lovingly for him, ready to wake him up in the most pleasurable way; a move that he loves and appreciates. "Is that why you woke me up at 6 am in the morning....for sex?," he continued to ask. Without blinking an eye, I answered him bluntly, "Yes, what do you think I was doing, cleaning the house at 6 am in the

morning?", as I continued to work at my task while staring at him deeply. Mum was the word after that! "Poor thing," I said to myself. He obviously does not know what to do with me! Donna Summer would certainly be proud of me at that moment for sure, as I was fully in control of my sexuality, without being loose, common or easy. Hopefully, he appreciated it! Deep within my heart I do believe that women such as Donna Summer, Gloria Steinem, Madonna and many others were not trying to be like men, as they realized that they could not be. However, what they were fighting for through their music, lyrics, words, statements or speeches, was the equality of women and our right to choose. They were not fighting for us to be promiscuous, as many of us are these days, calmly jumping from man to man.

Sexuality to them was something that was innately built within them and should not be stifled. Being happy with a lover, or being able to scream his name from the top of your lungs, or saying, "No, I like it on top" to your husband or man does not make you a whore. It makes you an empowered woman. Be that empowered woman, one that would make Donna Summer and all the others who came before us proud. Be that bad girl for one man alone, so that he will be the only one who you will sing "Hot Stuff" to, as you twirl around on the bed in your lingerie, stilettos and hair all done to the max. Make Donna Summer proud I say! Darn it...make me proud!

By HAroLD G. BAILEY observer writer nEW YorK, USA After several postponements, convicted Jamaican drug lord Christopher 'Dudus' Coke will be sentenced on June 8, 2012. one of Coke's attorneys, Stephen H. rosen, told the Jamaica Observer in an interview Wednesday (May 23) that even if the defense brings evidence to rebut two days of prosecution testimony to bolster their demand that Coke be given the maximum sentence, "he will be sentenced June 8."

Christopher "Dudus" Coke rosen spoke to the Observer at the end of an evidentiary hearing in the matter yesterday in Manhattan. Yesterday's court proceeding was significant for the damning evidence by a second prosecution witness, who implicated prominent St. Catherine high school, St. Jago, in a drug-and-visa fraud ring linked to Coke. Anthony Brown, who is currently facing a long prison term for drug offenses, said that he entered into a deal with Coke to get visas for his supporters on the pretext that the visas were meant for legitimate members of the school's athletics team. Brown testified that he was an assistant track and field coach at the school in the 1990s when the plot was carried out, and alleged that other members of staff at the school had knowledge of it. He said that he obtained about 25 visas under the scheme for Coke, but that he was only paid a fraction of the money agreed on. Brown said that the scheme unraveled when he decided to destroy a number of passports as he was no longer able to obtain the visas due to policy changes at the United States Embassy in Kingston. This, however, left his life in danger as men from Coke's criminal network began searching for him. It was then, he said, that he decided to flee to the United States where he subsequently ran into trouble.

Being pulled out of a livery car late at night when I had done nothing wrong was outrageous and frightening, Battle said. I can only hope this settlement saves others from a similar experience. Under the settlement, the NYPD last week instructed all officers about the lawful treatment of passengers, directing them that they are not to question, frisk, search or demand identification from passengers simply because they are riding in cars participating in the TRIP program. Instead, officers are to take no action against passengers unless the officers have independent suspicion that the passenger has committed a crime.

BROOKLYN: wo Brooklyn parents, Edwin Sanango, 39, and Marlene Romero, 37 of Brooklyn were arrested on Friday (April 13) and charged with draining more than $1 million from a trust created to supplement their son medical care, but after his death, was supposed to be used to reimburse the Human Resources Administration (HRA). After the son died both defendants were arrested after attempting to make a withdrawal on the trust within minutes of a scheduled transfer from an annuity to the trust account. No withdrawals were made on the trust during Eddies lifetime, but an investigation revealed that between his death and March 2012, more than $1 million was removed from the account. After spending his entire life institutionalized, Eddie died in March 2008. The charges indicate that the defendants resisted HRAs repeated attempts to contact them for reimbursement for the more than $1.8 million it spent on Eddies treatments. Instead of spending their sons money to improve his short and difficult life, these defendants placed him in staterun hospitals and waited till he died to spend his money on themselves, said Kings County District Attorney Charles J. Hynes. The parents are charged with Grand Larceny in the First Degree, which carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison. Their son, Eddie, was born in 1993. He was left permanently disabled, as the result of negligent medical care during the delivery. Sanango and Romero, on behalf of Eddie and themselves, won a $2 million judgment against the hospital, $150,000 of which was paid out to them immediately. The rest was placed in an annuity, with regular payments deposited into a Supplemental Needs Trust, created to cover Eddies living expenses and still allow him to qualify for Medicaid. Sanango and Romero were named joint trustees.

ayman Islands Education Minister Rolston Anglin was reportedly arrested early Wednesday on suspicion of DUI following a vehicle accident. The Caymanian Compass reports that a Royal Cayman Islands Police statement issued about the wreck in which police did not identify Mr. Anglin stated that a 40-year-old man was arrested following a crash around 2.30am. The vehicle went into a ditch alongside the road. No one was injured. The man was subsequently conveyed to George Town police station where he was charged with driving under the influence before being released on police bail. The Caymanian Compass added that Minister Anglin did not return repeated calls for comment and also did not respond to any text messages or emails sent. rime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves reportedly told Vincentians in Taiwan he intends to seek a fourth term in office and lead the ruling Unity Labour Party Gonsalves (ULP) into the next general election, due in 2015. Dr. Gonsalves, who is 65-year-old has been Prime Minister since 2001. Only Sir James Mitchell has been Prime Minister of the island nation longer, with four successive terms from 1984 to 2000. He fell ill late April in Barbados en route to Kuwait and Qatar, and was treated in Bridgetown for an abscess. But even as the surgical wound continues to heal, the Vincentian leader has continued a hectic schedule, including visiting Taipei for Sundays second-term inauguration of President Ma Ying-jeou, to be followed by a trip to London.

oday, the Immigration Policy Center (IPC) and the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) released From Fingerprints to DNA: Biometric Data Collection in U.S. Immigrant Communities and Beyond by Jennifer Lynch.
The paper outlines the current state of U.S. government collection of biometric information and the problems that could arise from these growing databases of records. It also points out how immigrant communities are immediately affected by the way this data is collected, stored and shared. There is a growing push to link biometric collection with immigration enforcement. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) takes approximately 300,000 fingerprints per day from non-U.S. citizens crossing the border into the United States, and it collects biometrics from noncitizens

applying for immigration benefits and from immigrants who have been detained. In addition, state and local law enforcement officers regularly collect fingerprints and DNA, as well as face prints and even iris scans. All of these government databases are growing and increasingly interconnected. For example, the Secure Communities program takes the fingerprints of people booked into local jails, matches them to prints contained in large federal immigration databases, and then uses this information to deport people. Some people believe biometrics and databases are the silver bullets that will solve the immigrant enforcement dilemma. But biometrics are not infallible, and databases contain errors. These problems can result in huge negative consequences for U.S. citizens and legal immigrants mistakenly identified, said Michele Waslin, Senior Policy Analyst at the IPC who moderated a telebriefing today to release the paper. Biometric data collection can lead to racial profiling and can disproportionately affect immigrants, said EFF Staff Attorney and report author Jennifer Lynch. It also gives the government a new way to find and track people throughout the United States.

son born out of wedlock while the individual was under 18 years of age and unmarried. Legitimation laws require fathers to legally acknowledge their children.

The government needs to act now to limit unnecessary biometric collection and address the serious privacy issues regarding the amount and type of data collected, as well as what triggers that data collection, with whom the data is shared and the security of that data. Some in Congress believe that we should address immigrant enforcement by requiring all US workerscitizens and immigrants aliketo provide biometric information for a new employment identification card, said Jonathan Weinberg, Professor of Law at Wayne State University, also a guest on todays call. Under that hugely expensive approach, database and biometric errors would inevitably trip up a huge number of working Americans.

ince his historical debut in the monstrous play "Bashment Granny," Keith "Shebada" Ramsay has taken Jamaican theater and the world by storm. Much to his credit, Ramsay has achieved a cult like following and fan base in such a short period of time for the razor-sharp, over-the-top and funny character that he portrays, Shebada. In fact, hands down, in recent years, Shebada has become one of Jamaican theater's defining stars. The New York TriState area is gearing up for loads of laughter, fun and excitement-fused with an important back story--when "The Politician" debuts here for Memorial Day weekend and later in June. Keith Shebada Ramsay, along with a wildly talented ensemble, will take center stage on Saturday, May 26 (Hartford, CT-Weaver High School); Sunday, May 27 (Queens, NYYork College) and Saturday, June 23 (East Orange, NJ - Campus High School). BRAATA FOLK SINGERS

Their 2012 concert season, to be held at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center in Queens, New York in June, will be a tribute to Jamaica and Jamaicans over the course of the last half-century. But that season is really the precursor to the glittering Choir Games Festivities, which will see several thousand performers from over 70 countries competing for gold, silver and bronze medals in several categories. Braata will be bringing their unique performing style of choral theater to two categories- Scenic Folklore and Music of the Religions. A collection of renowned

Jamaican folksongs will comprise their suite in the Scenic Folklore category while several gospel songs in the Jamaican revival tradition will form the repertoire in the Music of the Religions category. Artistic director of the folk singers, Andrew Clarke, is aware of the enormity of the occasion, not only because it will be Braatas first time at the Games but because of the rich tradition of excellence that has been established by other Jamaican choirs at the event over the years. lam Sense Kids Star Search is designed and dedicated to building a platform for children ages 5-16 to showcase their many spectacular talents and personalities. It will provide them an opportunity to further the artistic growth and integrity to create or develop a sense of self-awareness and the confidence to shape their young minds in a positive manner. Glam Sense Divas are the promoters of this event and past successful Kids Fashion Show-Mini Miss Fashion Diva 2010 which took place at Macedonia Center, Mt. Vernon, NY. We are also a communitycentered organization, so senior citizens, patrons and local businesses will all be welcomed to join in on our event. Summer is upon us, and many children will need to engage in positive and constructive activities, which will help neutralize their character. The Kids Star Search is a great way to challenge them artistically and boost their self-esteem as they take part in a friendly competition amongst each other. Ultimately, there are no losers when every child participates. This platform will be a great way to bring out family support. We are hoping that this will help strengthen the community and provide a sense of unity and collaboration. As a sign of good faith, we are also going to donate a part of the proceeds to one of the schools or clubs in our community. This star-studded event will take place on Saturday, July 21, 2012 in the spacious auditorium of John Philip Sousa Junior High School, 3750 Baychester Avenue, Bronx, NY 10466. Red Carpet will be from 56pm and the Showtime will begin at 6pm. This kids event is like no other, the theme this year will be super heroes.

t has been found that black children with autism are usually diagnosed later than white children with the disorder. There may be many reasons for this. First, black families may not have access to quality, affordable or culturally knowledgeable health care. This results in an autistic child going through a health care system undetected. The doctors may also not recognize early symptoms of autism and as a result, do not provide a diagnosis. Second, there is a social stigma associated with mental health care within the black community. Some black parents may not accept a diagnosis of autism and may be reluctant to get help for their child on that basis. Because of this stigma, individuals of the black community are less likely to make use of the mental health care available to them and terminate treatment earlier when compared to other

races. Lastly, misdiagnosis is a potential problem. Researchers note that except for a brain scan, there are no subjective criteria to diagnose autism. Black children may not have access to this type of concrete and comprehensive medical evaluation and therefore are subject to misdiagnosis of autism. Receiving an early diagnosis of autism is critical for a child. The most appropriate age of diagnosis is 3 years. At 3 years of age the child can be placed in an early intervention program that will teach developmental skills. Early intervention also allows a childs behavior to be molded and ensures the most developmental success. Intervention at a later age results in poorer developmental outcomes. Therefore, the earlier a child is diagnosed with autism, the better the chance of a successful intervention.

s people continue to search for ways to eat better and stay healthy, they also try to find water and other drinks that are healthier. Many people have resorted to drinking bottled water or filtering tap water to remove some chemicals and to improve the taste. In some places on the planet people are drinking Kangen Water. Water is certainly essential to animal and plant health. Human bodies are composed of 60 to 80 percent water. Keeping the body hydrated by supplying our cells with fresh water should be a daily habit. We recover more slowly from illness and injury when we dont take in enough water. In fact, research shows that humans might age more quickly and become ill more easily without the proper amount of drinking water each day. Special Water? Some people are trying something called Kangen Water, which is presented as the purest available and therefore healthier for us than regular water. Just what is Kangen Water and why is it different? First things first Kangen water has become very familiar to people in Japan. Its believed to be better for you because it is mineral-rich and contains few if any free radicals (removed by ionization). The name Kangen Water implies that people who are drinking it are returning to the origin, drinking water that is not contaminated by chemicals and industrial pollution. Drinking water without filtering it or treating it to remove pollutants may keep people from growing and remaining healthy the way they should.

What is Kangen Water?

Kangen Water distributors Divine Diva and PatrickMaitland (l) with Country Kitchen Diner Manager Jack Graham (c) Kangen Water is marketed as being very alkaline, with a pH level between 8.5 and 11. Many of the foods and drinks we ingest are known to be highly acidic so this new type of water might help reduce the effects of high acid levels.

This puts large amounts of free radicals in our bodies. The structure of free radicals means they are often the root cause of a majority of diseases and major illnesses. Kangen Water reportedly gives us water that doesnt introduce new free radicals and may help to reduce the effects of free radicals already in our bodies. This new type of water is intended to bring acid and free-radical theory to the water we drink every day. While some may see this as another miracle supplement program, the companies offering Kangen Water present it as a natural and logical way to get the water we need each day. If you are considering the purchase of a Kangen Water machine visit the website: www.cleanwater4me.com

Whats an Antioxidant? Antioxidants are thought to balance the bodys acidity and reduce the effects of harsh chemicals and pollutants in what we eat and drink. Kangen Water reportedly tests very well when measured for oxidizing potential and antioxidant properties. This is important because the human body is constantly exposed to polluting substances from food, alcohol, tobacco and from the air we breathe.

Dear Divine: an you give me some advice or guidelines to follow when trying to find a loving, caring man to be in a healthy relationship? - P Thompson, Bx Dear P: If a man wants you, nothing can keep him away. If he doesnt want you, nothing can make him stay. Stop making excuses for a man and his behavior. Allow your intuition (or spirit) to save you from heartache. Stop trying to change yourself for a relationship thats not meant to be. Slower is better. Never live your life for a man before you find what makes you truly happy. If a relationship ends because the man was not treating you as you deserve then, heck no, you cant be friends. A friend wouldnt mistreat a friend. Dont settle. Older men have higher standards for your behavior Remember when you were 18 and you did a lot of flirting with other guys in front of your boyfriend? Older men have been on more dates and in more relationships than younger guys, so they have seen it all before. So one of the best tips for dating older men that I can give you is to remember that older men have higher standards when it comes to your behavior. Things like flirting with other men and turning up late for dates won't make them jealous. It will make them lose respect for you.

Older men have different interests and priorities As guys mature and get older, they tend to change their interests and priorities. Most guys in their twenties go out clubbing or go out trying to pick up girls with their friends on the weekend. As they get older they slowly change and go out less and less. Added to this, they usually have an established career and are not too worried about money. This is fantastic, as they will often have more time to spend with you instead of going out with the boys or focusing on their jobs.

Tips for Dating Older Men

Please send questions and suggestions: email: divinestreethype@gmail.com Divine Diva c/o Street Hype, 711 South Columbus Avenue, Mount Vernon, NY 10550

The only person you can control in a relationship is you. Avoid men whove got a bunch of children by a bunch of different women. He didnt marry them when he got them pregnant. Why would he treat you any differently? Always have your own set of friends separate from his. Maintain boundaries in how a guy treats you. If something bothers you, speak up. Never let a man know everything. He will use it against you later. You cannot change a mans behavior. Change comes from within. Dont EVER make him feel he is more important than you are even if he has more edu-

cation or is in a better job. Do not make him into a quasi-god. He is a man, nothing more, nothing less. Never let a man define who you are. Never borrow someone elses man. If he cheated with you, hell cheat on you. A man will only treat you the way you ALLOW him to treat you. All men are NOT dogs. You should not be the one doing all the bendingcompromise is a two-way street. You need time to heal between relationships there is nothing cute about baggage deal with your issues before pursuing a new relationship.

Don't be a gold digger Sure, we'd like to think of ourselves as independent women. But at the back of our minds, we would still love to find a guy that wants to take care of us. With that in mind, a lot of older guys have their guards up when it comes to dating younger women. They are afraid that you are just some gold digger looking for rich men, so you have to be careful about how you treat the relationship. If you insist on him paying for everything, then you are sending bad signals. It's better to pay for your half. But it's best to pay your half unless he insists on paying. There is no need to make a big deal out

Beware the 'beauty hunter' It's great dating an older guy, especially when he can show you new experiences and you are both compatible with each other. There is a flip side, however. Some older men are only out to find a hot piece of arm candy. They only want a cute girl, but don't care about who she is in the slightest. Bottom line: They only want you for your looks. Beauty Hunters do things like: Only hang out with you at night. They don't have much interest in your hobbies or interests. They don't introduce you to their social circle. They call a lot when they're drunk (booty call). They never want to do what you want to do. If you're happy to be with a guy who likes you only for your beauty/youth, then that's your prerogative. But if you don't like that sort of thing, watch out for these major signs and stay away! From www.real-dating-tips.com

ARIES (Mar. 21 Apr. 19): Although you may already have taken on too many responsibilities, you're so confident that you're ready to put even more on your plate today. Don't wait for the end of the day to wish you had less to complete. Instead, judiciously cut back on your activities by setting healthy limits right from the start. TAURUS (Apr. 20 May 20): You might think that your strategy is a sound one, but you could unexpectedly discover that you have oversimplified your plan. You feel a bit scattered today, even if you try to concentrate your efforts on what needs to be done. Don't get discouraged; satisfaction will be yours if you keep your eye on the prize.

WEEKLY HOROSCOPE
LEO (Jul. 23 Aug. 22): Your moods seem to be changing quickly now and it's difficult to know how you're going to feel next. Even if you can leap tall thoughts in a single bound, you still need to follow through with sensible action. There's nothing wrong with having your head in the clouds as long as you can keep your feet on the ground at the same time. VIRGO (Aug. 23 Sept. 22): You can accomplish a tremendous amount of work now and your productivity is likely to be positively acknowledged by others. You might not even realize if you've pushed too far. Don't assume more responsibilities than you can realistically handle.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 Dec.21): You might get caught up in a minor power struggle today as you move through the changes that are being demanded of you. If your commitment to a larger cause is more important than achieving your personal goals, you should be able to gracefully navigate your way through the resistance. CAPRICORN (Dec. 22 Jan. 19): You might feel a bit uncomfortable today as you try to get past your self-imposed restrictions in order to take advantage of the exciting opportunities that are being presented to you. You could learn something new if you don't retreat too quickly.

Don't complain, even if you temporarily regret how much you promised. If you just stay focused and work steadily, you could have enough time left over to have some fun. Acknowledge the limitations of what you cannot do in the present moment. Then, you will be freer to explore the deeper meaning of life without the burden of having to find the right answer.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 Feb. 18): Someone might come to you with such a good idea today that it's hard to resist. You may be feeling so upbeat now that nearly every opportunity looks worthwhile. Fortunately, there's no reason to react negatively; just remain open to modifying your position as more and more of the truth is unveiled. PISCES (Feb. 19 Mar. 20): You may mistakenly believe that you can see the whole picture now. Sure, you can visualize it all, but you could jump to a wrong conclusion or miss an important detail that's integral to making the right choices. Just remember not to overcommit or you might end up regretting your decision.

ith an eye for fashion and a distinctive style, Maxine Tomlinson is certainly taking the fashion world by storm. The owner and CEO of Look At Me Now Jewelry, known amongst her friends as The Fashionista, did not see her success coming. She is blown away by the response from women around the globe. The mother of two (Cello and Imani) says, I love fashion and I love to dress others as well. I am inspired by women such as June Ambrose, fashion stylist to the stars, and many others. She is also lovingly called Mom by many of the other children in the neighborhood in the Bronx where she lives, and encourages young women to do great things. Look At Me Now Jewelry consists of fashion accessories, such as handbags, jewelry, shoes, and many other items to make your look complete. Maxine, who has been in the garment manufacturing business for many years, credits a lot of her recent success to her 20-year-old daughter, Imani, who came up with the idea of Look At Me Now. Imani, who is now in college and focused on her education, helps out whenever she can. Maxine ships her pieces all over the U.S., Canada and Europe and will find whatever it is that you need for that special occasion. Facebook, she states, has also been a wonderful resource for business. I made over $175 the first night within 2 hours that I put stuff up on Facebook, and I now have sales reps as far as Atlanta, she says. Maxine also visits your home to show
