Objectives

PSYC 111 GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY (3 units). Presents methods, concepts, and principles of psychology. Topics include psychophysiology, sensation and perception, learning and memory, motivation, development, emotion, health, stress, personality, and abnormalities and treatments. PSYC 121 PSYCHOLOGY OF HUMAN GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT (3 units). Investigation of the cognitive, motivation and socialization changes that occur in the individual. Emphasis is placed on the genetic and environmental origins of behavior impacting development from birth to old age as well as the manifestations of these dynamic processes across the life span. PSYC 122 HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHICAL FOUNDATION OF PSYCHOLOGY (3 units). Historical development of systems and theories of psychology as represented by behaviorism, Gestalt psychology, psychoanalysis, structuralism, functionalism and third force psychology. Trends in contemporary theories will be highlighted. PSYC 213 PSYCHOLOGY OF LEARNING (3 units). An introduction to and evaluation of the main psychological theories of learning as they apply to both human and animal behavior. Special attention will be given to the applications of those areas of theory and research, which deal with factors, which are known to influence the learning process. PSYC 214 FILIPINO PSYCHOLOGY (3 units). Deals with the scientific study of the Filipino behavior as he/she influences and is influenced by other people. It provides answers to question as to how the Filipino thinking, feelings and attribute are formed and changed within a social context. Principles and

strategies that evolved from researchers here and abroad will be discussed exhaustively within the context of Philippine reality. PSYC 215 THEORIES OF PERSONALITY (3 units). Survey and in-depth discussion of major personality theories and relevant research. Theories may include psychoanalytic, trait, behavioral, humanistic, cognitive, and biological. Research may include person-situation debate, nature-nurture, personality change, and inventories. PSYC 226 INDUSTRIAL PSYCHOLOGY (3 units). An introduction to the principles, theories, and techniques if I/O psychology. The main emphasis is on the application of psychological principles to solve problems, improve performance, and increase satisfaction in work organizations. Topics covered will include personnel selection, performance appraisal, training, motivation, and job satisfaction, organizational communication, and job design. PSYC 227 PHYSIOLOGICAL PSYCHOLOGY (3 units). Introduces the physiological systems that underlie behavior with emphasis on the nervous system, sensory systems, endocrine system, and research methods unique to the field of physiological psychology. PSYC 310 PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING with Laboratory (5 units). An introductory course in basic measurement concepts and procedures. Evaluation and use of standardized tests, including individual and group testing of achievement, intelligence, aptitude and personality. Elementary statistic concepts related to testing and measurements are covered. PSYC 311 PSYCHOLOGICAL INTERVIEW AND COUNSELING (3 units0. A course designed both to acquaint the student with the major approaches to individual counseling and to give the student some training in counseling. Characteristics of the counseling relationship, process, and goals will be examined in some detail. There will be a strong experiental focus as a means of applying what is learned to actual situations. PSYC 312 EXPERIMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY LECTURE with Laboratory(5 units). A survey of the experimental methods and principles used in the design of experiments in psychology. Reading and interpretation of experimental literature in learning. Social sensation and perception are stressed. Three lectures and one two-hour laboratory period per week. PSYC 313 CURRENT ISSUES IN PSYCHOLOGY (3 units). Introduction to , ad exploration of, approaches to selected topics in Psychology as applied to social and personal issues such as marriage, divorce, psychotherapy, religion, advertising and health. Lecture/Seminar approach to current issues in Psychology. Topics include psychotherapy, intelligence, statistics, moral issues, gender roles, and relationships. PSYC 324 PRACTICUM I (3 units). Provides psychology majors experiential learning within various social service agencies and work settings related to the students career interests under the supervision of an onsite coordinator. PSYC 325 PSYCHOLOGICAL RESEARCH AND SEMINAR (3 units). Covers theories, techniques, and applications of psychological research methodology. Students explore a variety of approaches, ranging form uncontrolled field observation to laboratory experiments. Topics include data analysis, report writing, and factors affecting research results. PSYC 326 ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY (3 units). Introduces the theories, diagnosis, and treatment of maladaptive behavior and psychological disorders. A thorough study of the history, assessment, and classifications of abnormal behaviors. The DSM IV is used as the basis for the classification and diagnosis of all mental and emotional disorders. Class format may include field trips to psychiatric institutions.

PSYC 327 MENTAL HEALTH AND STRESS MANAGEMENT (3 units). This course exposes students to a holistic approach in understanding mental health and to stress management techniques. It treats both cognitive (coping) skills and relaxation techniques with the intention of preventing and/or alleviating the physical symptoms of stress. The course also includes topics like shedding negative emotions and an indepth understanidng of how emotions affect both physical and mental health. PSYC 328 HUMAN RESOURCES AND MANAGEMENT (3 units). Overview of human resource cluding a discussion of internal and external factors affecting supervision. The legal and managerial requirements that human resource and compensation decisions be made in a nondiscriminatory manner are examined, the processes for carrying out effective recruitment and retention are presented, and issues related to creating effective training and development programs and dependable performance assessment systems are emphasized. PSYC 329 HUMAN BEHAVIOR IN ORGANIZATIONS (3 units). The study of human behavior in organizational settings and the organization itself. Topics include organizational design, organizational change and development, organizational culture, norms and roles, work motivation, job satisfaction, communication, work teams decision making, power and politics, and leadership. PSYC 400 PRACTICUM II (3 units). An experience-based course in which the student spends a specified amount of time in an industrial/organizational set up, a related agency or institution in order to gain actual experience and understand possible applications of psychology to this setting. Supervision will be jointly provided by the cooperating agency and the psychology staff. PSYC 411 PRACTICUM III (3 units). An experience-based course in which the student spends a specified amount of time in an industrial or organizational set up, a related agency or institution in order to gain actual experience and understand possible applications of psychology to this setting. Focuses on the social and psychological implications and processes of groups, group participation and organization. Included are class exercises, which foster students understanding of group development, styles of facilitation, and interdependency. There will be some lectures, but the course is mostly experiential. PSYC 413 CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY with Laboratory (5 units). A survey of clinical and abnormal psychology, including historical development, theoretical perspectives on causes and intervention, classification of disorders, diagnosis, and assessment. The course also covers legal and ethical issues arising in the context of major psychological abnormalities, with some focus on developmental, psycho physiological, and neurological disorders. PSYC 414 EMPLOYEE EMPLOYER RELATIONS (3 units). Introduces students to some issues and ethical considerations in managing employee-employer relationships, understanding personal interactions in the areas of employee/employer, customer/salesperson, buyer/vendor and employee/employee relationships. PSYC 415 LABOR RELATIONS (3 units). This course investigates problems involved in the regulation of industrial conflict ( strikes, picketing, boycotts, and unfair labor practices), the establishment of the collective bargaining relationship, the negotiation and enforcement of the collective agreement, the arbitration of disputes under the agreement, the relationship between the Union and its members, and the protection of individual and minority rights. PSYC 426 BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION (3 units). The application of principles derived from learning theory to individual behavior problems and classroom management. Includes and analysis of procedures for the establishment, maintenance, and alteration of complex human behavior. PSYC 427 COUNSELING SPECIAL CASES (3 units). To acquire basic CRISIS counseling skills needed to equip students to deal with different crisis situations and know how to develop crisis

intervention. This course will also teach immediate crisis intervention such as caring for the medical, physical, mental health and personal needs of the victim, and providing information to the victim about local resources or services. The second phase of crisis intervention involves an assessment of needs to determine the services and resources required by the victim in order to provide emotional support to the victim. The purpose of this phase is to determine how the crisis affects the victim's life so that a plan for recovery can be developed, allowing the victim to begin moving towards the future. PSYC 428 INTRODUCTION TO BRIEF PSYCHOTHERAPY (3 units). This course provides the student with an overview of various brief therapy theories, techniques, and practices. Particular attention will be devoted to the study of the brief strategic therapies and solution focused therapy. Lectures will be supplemented by extensive use of videotapes and class exercises designed to thoroughly immerse the student in brief therapy ways of thinking. PSYC 429 SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY (3 units). Examines the actions of individuals and groups in a social context. Topics include the influence of social learning on attitudes, perception, and personality; persuasion; conflict; attraction; altruism; and aggression. PSYC 430 JOB EVALUATION AND SALARY MANAGEMENT (3 units). The study of human resource issues in work and other organizational setting. Topics include job analysis, job design, job evaluation selection and promotion techniques, employment equity issues, performance management, training and development, compensation and reward systems, and the changing nature of jobs. PSYC 431 CONSUMER BEHAVIOR & ADVERTISING (3 units). An analysis of ht basic concepts and principles of consumer behavior. Emphasis will be placed on the cognitive, behavioral and social influences as they relate to consumer attitudes, perceptions and purchases.
