From the Pastors Desk - Never Far Away

difficult for clergy families as we are often sent to be part of a new family. Often, we do not get the luxury of being a life-long resident of anywhere. As I sat at the desk and started writing this newsletter note, I found myself looking for the right words, feelings, thoughts: and then I stopped and went home. Over the next few days while packing boxes, meeting with the copy machine guy, and taking church mail to the post office, I found myself still thinking about this note. It was on Friday that someone sent me a message which had a link to the above picture. It is from a friend and colleague who like us are packing boxes and getting the kids ready. Why do we need a church family? It is not the 11th commandment: Thou shalt have one. But it is a part of who we are as Christians. We are brothers and sisters in Christ. We are given the blessing of sharing our lives and experiences with one another: both the joys and concerns. We stand with one another and celebrate a birth. We pray together and lay hands on blankets when someone hurts. We do this together. We do this as family. Not just a family, but Gods family!!! As I write this and pack yet another box, I Bright Hope Laurel was not just a stop on the road but home. Someone once said home is where the heart is. I say that home is where those who love you and stand with you are! In twelve years of ministry, I can say this of BHL: there is love! I leave you excited about my upcoming ministry at JCMC, but also a bit sad as we now leave friends and I dare say family. Whoever follows has been given more than a new post; but has inherited a new family full of love and joy. Share that joy with him so that he knows what we know: BHL is home! Know that you will always be in our thoughts and prayers.
In the love of Jesus
