GRADUATE COURSES (MAIN CAMPUS)
1. Procedure for Admission
Candidates seeking admission to different Post-Graduate Courses
in Arts, may apply for registration on the prescribed application forms
obtainable from the following Offices/Departments within the stipulated
period :

The form duly filled in and accompanied by self attested photo copies
of the following documents shall have to be submitted by the candidate at
the time of the registration at the above noted centres:
(i) Marks-sheets of the qualifying Degree Examination in respect of all the
papers.
(ii) Degree Certificate of the qualifying Examination or Provisional Certificate.
(iii) Certificate of Class Xth for verification of date of birth.
(iv) 3 Copies of the Caste Certificate, if belongs to reserved categories.
(v). Disability Certificate, in case of physically challenged candidates. (in
duplicate) issued by the competent Hospital/Board.
(vi). The Candidates shall also have to produce the aforesaid
documents in Original at the time of registration and the same
shall be returned to the candidates after verification. The
Incomplete Registration forms and the forms without original
documents shall not be accepted.
(vii) The candidates registered will be issued registration slips which shall
have to be produced at the time of collection of Provisional Admission
Slips, if selected for admission. The candidates are, therefore, advised
to retain Registration Slips carefully.
(viii). The Schedule of Registration for Admission and Entrance Tests, for
the courses are shown on page (i). For detailed information with regard
to admission programme/notification of admission lists, etc., candidates
are advised to contact the concerned Departments/Academic Section
of the Faculty of Arts.
(ix).The candidates seeking admission to M.A. Sanskrit under direct
Category may get themselves registered directly in both the Campuses
and Non-Collegiate Womens Education Board. The admission lists on
the basis of merit under direct category would be finalized and displayed
by both the Campuses & NCWEB independently.
(x) The candidates seeking admission to MA in Hindi and Sanskrit through
Entrance Test for both the campuses and Non-Collegiate Womens
Education Board may get themselves registered in the Main Campus.
The merit list of both the Campuses would be displayed on the respective
campus.
Admission to the following MA courses in French/ German/ Hispanic/
Italian, English, Buddhist Studies, Psychology, Philosophy, Punjabi, Tamil,
Bengali, Comparative Indian Literature, Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Library &
Information Science and Linguistics will be dealt by the concerned
departments directly.

All admissions will be made in order of merit, in accordance with the
requirements, as detailed in Appendix-1. The number of seats in each subject
College/Departments is shown in Appendix-II.
Copies of the admission lists will be sent to the Principals of the
Colleges/Heads of the Departments concerned. Candidates whose names
appear in the admission list will be issued Provisional Admission Slips on
the dates to be notified at the time of Registration, provided the candidate
has submitted the result of Final year examination. The candidate, after
collecting the Provisional Admission Slip, will apply for admission to the
college allotted by the concerned department of the respective Campus for
the subject concerned. The candidates are also advised to apply to the
Colleges for admission on the prescribed forms available in the College
concerned within the prescribed dates notified by the colleges without waiting
for the registration/notification of admission lists. This is being suggested
because it may be possible that Colleges may stop entertaining applications
for admission after a prescribed date. For detailed information in this regard,
candidates may contact colleges directly.
Candidates who have been issued Provisional Admission Slips will be
required to complete the admission formalities in the College including
payment of fees within three days from the date of issue of the Provisional
Admission Slip. Issue of Admission slip does not confirm the provisional
admission granted. The Admission Slip will be retained by College and the
counterfoil is to be returned to the Arts Faculty immediately after depositing
the fee in the College.
The names of those who fail to complete admission formalities or fail
to submit the Provisional Admission slips in the Colleges within the stipulated
period shall be removed from the list without any further reference to them
and the resultant vacant seats will be offiered to other candidates in order of
merit.
Disputes, if any, arising out of or relating to any matter whatsoever,
concerning the process of admission shall be subject to the exclusive
jurisdiction of the competent courts in Delhi only.
In case of any discrepancy/irregularity in the admission offered is
noticed before or after depositing the fee, the admission would be cancelled
by the Faculty office/College without any reference to the candidate and
the candidate would have no claim what so ever in this regard .
Note: The self-attested copies of documents/papers/ photographs are
accepted from the students alongwith the Registration forms for
admission to the Post-Graduate Courses. Please note that if any
false attestation/falsified records are detected, The admission of the
student will be cancelled besides initiation legal action against such
a student

2. Eigibility Conditions
Candidates desirous of seeking admission to M.A. Courses must fulfil
the requisite conditions of having passed the examinations with the prescribed
percentage of marks as detailed in Appendix-I
If the course is not equivalent to Delhi University such candidates would
be required to fill up the prescribed equivalence form along with all documents
and a copy of authenticated syllabus of the University from which he/she
has passed the examination.
(i) Rounding off a fraction of marks for purposes of admission to any Course
is not admissible.
(ii) Candidates who do not fulfill the eligibility requirements, shall not be
registered and no request for relaxation in the minimum eligibility
requirement shall be entertained.
(iii) Candidates who have passed their B.A./B.A. (Hons) / B.Com./ B.Com.
(Hons) or equivalent examination under 10+2+3 Scheme of examination
of Delhi University or an examination recognized as equivalent thereto,
if eligible would be registered to the M.A. Arts Courses for the Academic
Session 2011-2012.
However, the candidates having passed their first degree examination
prior to 1985 will be treated at par with the present three years degree
course. (A.C. Resolution No. 137 dated 23.3.1993).
Further, where the applicants have done their graduation under 14 years
scheme but have MA First year/LL.B./B.Ed./B.E. (Degree) etc.
Examination after graduation, they will be deemed to have put in 15
years of study but their eligibility be determined on the basis of marks
obtained at the qualifying Examination (A.C. Reso. No. 034 (6) dt.
21.5.1992).
(iv) If any irregularity is detected after declaration of merit list/issue of
Provisional Admission Slip, before or after depositing the Fee, admission
of such candidate will be cancelled without any reference to him/her.
3. Age
There would be no minimum age bar for post-graudate courses under
the Faculty of Arts.
4. Provisional Registration
Candidates who have appeared in the Final Examination of their
qualifying degree examination but their results have not been declared
or have not received detailed marks-sheet/certificates will be registered

(not admitted) provisionally keeping in view their performance at the
last examination passed. Such candidates shall be required to submit
a certificate from the University/College last attended by them to the
effect that they have appeared in their final examination and would
submit result immediately after declaration of result but not later than
31st August, 2011. However, such candidates will be offered admission
on submission of result for the final examination. All admissions have
to be finalized by 31st August 2011 subject to availability of seats.
5. Compartmental Candidates
(i) Candidates who have been placed under compartment in one of the
subjects by the University of Delhi only will be allowed to register
themselves for provisional admission to MA Arts Courses, if they satisfy
the prescribed requirements of the course concerned as given in
Appendix-I (by adding the minimum pass marks of the paper in which
the student has been placed in compartment to the marks obtained in
the remaining papers).
(ii) A candidate of Delhi University who has been placed in compartment
in any one of the subsidiary subjects and is otherwise eligible for
admission to M.A. course, shall be permitted to register himself/herself
for provisional admission. Admission of the above candidates would be
confirmed on his/her passing the Compartmental/subsidiary
examination.
Students who fail in the compartmental/subsidiary examination shall
not be allowed to continue on rolls and their provisional admission shall be
cancelled without any communication to them.
Note: Candidates from other Universities who have been placed under
compartment shall not be eligible for the registration under clause.
5 (i) and (ii) mentioned above.
6. Evening Classes
The following MA courses are also taught in the Evening Classes in
the Main Campus.

Candidate seeking admission to Evening Classes are required to
produce a certificate of employment and work experience of atleast one
year from anyone of the following.
1. Government Office
2. Public Undertakings
3. Statutoty/Autonomeus Bodies of the Central/ State Government.
4. Private Limited Companies
7. Enrolment in the Non-Collegiate Womens Education
Board (NCWEB)
All the candidates seeking admission to M.A. in English, Hindi,
Sanskrit, Philosophy, Urdu, Punjabi, Arabic and Persian Courses in Non-
Collegiate Womens Education Board must get themselves registered with
the PG Teaching Centre of Non-Collegiate Womens Education Board in
NCWEB, University of Delhi, Delhi.110007 on 10th, 17th and 24th July 2011
between 10.00 am to 3.00 P.M. Since all the candidates in Non-Collegiate
are taken on the basis of entrance test by the respective Departments in
the Faculty of Arts they also have to register themselves with the Faculty.
Giving the option of Non-Collegiate in the registration form with the Faculty
is not sufficient for admission in Non-Collegiate Womans Education Board.

8. Enrolment in the School of Open Learning (SOL)
The candidates seeking admission to M.A. in Hindi and Sanskrit
courses are advised to contact the Executive Director. School of Open
Learning, 5, Cavalry Lines, University of Delhi, Delhi-110007 for further details.
N.B.: Minimum eligibility requirement of marks for enrolment in
Non-Collegiate/ School of Open Learning/Evening Classes are the same as
prescribed for admission to regular courses.
9. Admission for Foreign Students
Foreign students seeking admission to various courses are required to
apply to the Foreign Students Advisor, Foreign Students Registry, Faculty
of Management Studies, University of Delhi, Delhi -110007, who will process
their applications for admissions in the Colleges/Departments directly.

10. Admission of Candidates from Nepal/Bhutan
The candidates sponsored by the Governments of Nepal and Bhutan
for admission to M.A Course will be given 5% relaxation in the minimum
marks requirements but there will not be any reservation of seats of such
candidates in any course.
11. Reservation for Candidates Physically Challenged
(i). Three percent (3%) seats in all undergraduate and postgraduate
institutions (including professional and technical institutions) will be
reserved for candidates with physically disabilities.
(ii) Reservation will also be applicable to institutions where admission is
through Entrance Examinations.
(iii) Reservation will be implemented college-wise and as far as possible
course-wise in under-graduate courses, keeping in mind the suitability
of the various courses for physically handicapped students depending,
inter-alia, on the nature and severity of their disability. The reservation
will be implemented Department wise in post-graduate course, as well
as in those under-graduate courses where teaching is available only in
one Department/college.
(iv) Candidate seeking admission under reservation as detailed in eligibility
conditdions except relaxation of 5% marks in the minimum eligibility
conditions. In case of a course where admission is by entrance
examination 5% concession shall be granted in the minimum eligibility
condition for admission the test.
(v) Candidates with physical disabilities who are able to secure admission
in the general category will be counted in the 3% quota.
(vi) The 3% reservation may be allocated as follows 1% for persons with
low vision or blindness; 1% for hearing imparied; 1% for those with
loco motor disabilities and/or cerebral palsy. However, if sufficient
candidates are not available in a sub-category then candidates from
the other sub-categories should be considered in their stead.
(vii) Candidates with more than one type of reservation : This reservation
shall cut across the existing resrevations of SC/ST; children/widows/
wives of officers and men of armed forces including paramilitary forces
killed/disabled in action or those who died/were disabled on duty, etc.
in accordance with the principle of interlocking reservations. Whenever
there is a common merit between two candidates, i.e. one belonging
to one reserved category and other belonging to the reserved as well
as Physically Handicapped category, preference should be given to

the Physically Handicapped candidates over the able bodied candidates.
The Physically Handicapped candidates will simultaneously continue
to avail benefit against the 3% quota reserved for them; provided the
candidates apply under both the categories separately.
(viii) If sufficient numbers of the candidates are not available under the
reserved category candidates.
(ix) College/Departments are free to exceed the 3% reservation quota if
necessary. (Note-Ordinary, the number of seats reserved would be 01
for 33; 2 for 67 and 3 for 100 and so on. However, the colleges may
round off the number of reserved seats to next higher level, if the number
of calculated seats falls more than half way between two levels, e.g.
for 54 seats the number of reserved seats would be 1.62, which may
be rounded off to 2 through it may appear to be 4% quota. In essence,
the nature of reservation should be enabling in sprit and the institution
not feel prevented from exceeding the 3% quota.
(x) The Dean Students' Welfare (DSW) will arrange for professional
conselling of physically challenged students to enable them to decide
about courses, keeping in view their aptitude, disability, and future career
prospects.
(xi) The disability certificate should be in the format as per Government of
India guidelines :
(a) The certificate should not be more than 5 years old.
(b) It should be signed by a board of 3 doctors with legible stamp
indicating the name & designation of the doctors.
(c) The certificate should be countersigned by CMO/Medical Supdt./
with stamp under the signatures. Certificate should have photograph
of candidate.
(d) Diagnosis should be written clearly in the certificate.
12. Admissions of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe
Candidates:
15% and 7.5% seats in all post-graduate courses are reserved for
candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe,
respectively. Candidate belonging to the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled
Tribe seeking admission to the Post-Graduate Courses will also be
required to get themselves registered along with other candidates, the
Registration form duly filled in and accompanied by attested
photocopies of the following documents shall be submitted at the
Registration Centre within the prescribed registration dates:

(i) Marks-Sheets of the qualifying Degree Examination in respect of all
the papers.
(ii) Degree certificate of the qualifying Examination or Provisional Certificate.
(iii) Certificate of class Xth for verification of Date of Birth.
(iv) Caste Certificate issued by any of the following Authorities.
(i) District Magistrate/Additional District Magistrate/Collector/
Deputy Commissioner/Additional Deputy
Commissioner/Deputy Collector/1st Class Stipendiary
Magistrate/ City Magistrate/Sub Divisional
Magistrate/Assistant Commissioner,
(ii) Chief Presidency Magistrate/Additional Chief Presidency
Magistrate/Presidency Magistrate.
(iii) Revenue Officer not blow the rank of Tehsildar.
(iv) Sub-Divisional Officer of the area where the candidate and/or
his/her family normally resides.
(v) Administration/Secretary of Administrator/Development
Officer (Laccadive and Minicoy Island)
The candidates will have to produce the original documents at
the time of registration, and the same shall be returned to them
after verification.
No seat will be reserved for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe in a
post graduate course where the number of seats is less than 7. Where
the number of seats are 7 or more but less than 15, 15% of seats will be
reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates. If no Scheduled Caste
candidate is available, the seat would go to a Scheduled Tribe
candidate. Where the number of seat are 15 or more, reservation at
15% and 7.5% for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates
respectively (inter-changeable) will be made.
The minimum eligibility requirement of marks for the Scheduled Cast/
Scheduled Tribe candidates who have passed their qualifying from
University of Delhi, for admission to Post-Graduate courses is the
minimum pass marks of the qualifying examination. The Scheduled
Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates who have passed their qualifying
degree examination from a University other than Delhi University, should
have secured at least the same percentage of pass marks at the
qualifying examination as prescribed for the equivalent examination of
Delhi University.

Where the admission is based on screening/written test for
Post-Graduate Courses, the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe
candidates would also be required to appear in the same but their
merit list will be drawn separately and operated as per the reservation
quota.
If the requisite number of Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidate
is not available by the last date fixed by the University for admission to
a particular course the remaining seats will be de-reserved and filled
from general category.
13. Admission of Other Backward Classes (OBC)
(i) 27% seats in all Post -Graduate Courses are reserved for the
OBCs.Candidates belonging to the OBCs seeking admission to the
Post-Graduate Courses will also be required to get themselves
refistered along with other candidates, the registration from duly filled
in & accompanied by attested photocopies of the following documents
shall be submitted at the Registration Centre within the prescribed
registration dated:
(ii) As per communication received by the University from the UGC. The
eligibility of the candidates appliying under the OBC Category will be
determined on the basis of the central list of the OBCs notified by the
Ministry of Social Justics & Empowerment on the recommendations
of the National Commission for Backward classes available on the
website of the Commission (http:ncbc.nc.in/ backward classes/
index.html).
For Category (1) - i.e.100% direct Admission:-
Separate cut-off will be notified for OBC Candidates but the variation
should not be more than 10% from the last cut off for General category
students.
For Category (2) - i.e. 100% admission through Entrance Test:-
Minimum eligibility conditions for appearing in the test will remain the
same as that of the General Category students. However, separate
merit list will be notified for OBC candidates with less than 10% variation.
For Category (3) - i.e. 50% through Direct Admission and 50%
through Entrance Test :-
The conditions as mentioned in category (1) and (2) above will apply
accordingly.

The number of seats will be determined in the following manner :
(a) Increase the total number of seats by 54%.
(b) 15% seats of the enhanced seats reserved for SC and 7.5% seats
for the ST category.
(c) Seats for General Category will remain constant.
(d) Number of seats under (b) & (c) taken together will be deducted
from the total number of seats as per (a) the remaining seats will be
filled up from the OBC category.
However, in case the seats meant for OBC remain vacant, the same
may be filled by other eligible candidates.
The Faculties/Departments are required.
1) to bring out a separate cut-off for OBC candidates.
2) to ensure that the difference between the cut-off for general candidates
and OBC candidates should not be more than 10% .
3) to check the OBC (Non-creamy layer) certificates while granting
admission.
4) Seats meant of PH/CW and Foreign Students will be treated as
supernumerary.
14. Reservation of Seats for the Children/Widows/Wives
of the officers and Men of the Armed Forces including
Para Military personnel killed or disabled in action.
5% of the the total number of seats in each course are reserved for the
Children/Widows/Wives of the officers and Men of the Armed Forces including
Para Military personnel (i) killed in action, (ii) Disabled in action, (iii) died
while on duty, (iv) disabled on duty and (v) wards of Ex-servicement personnel
and serving personnel of the Defence/Armed Forces and all Police Forces
who are in receipt of Gallantry Awards.
Relaxation to the extent of 5% marks in the minimum eligibility
requirement in the aggregate or in the subject as the case may be, will be
given to the candidates of the above mentioned categories while determining
their eligibility for admission to appear in admission test.
In order to become eligible for the above concession, children/window/
wives of officers and Jawans etc. are required to produce the entitlement
certificates issued by any of the following:
(i) Secretary, Kendriya Sainik Board, Delhi
(ii) Secretary, Rajya/Zila Sainik Board

(iii) Officer-in charge, Record Office
(iv) 1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate.
For purposes of registration, the candidates are required to submit
their application forms on a prescribed form available at the Registration
Centers, along with the self attested copies as well as the original of the
required certificates. The original certificates will be returned to them after
verification.
15. Admission of Sports persons
Five percent (5%) seats of the total number of seats of courses in all the
disciplines, except the courses of Faculities of Medicine, Engineering,
Technology and Management Studies of the University shall be reserved
for admission under the sports category at the post-graduate level.
Students seeking admission under the sports category shall apply
directly to the DUSC. The DUSC shall organise trials in different games and
sports and declare the list of candidates eligible for admission under the
sports category.
The students seeking admission under the sports category will be
required to take the entrance examination, if any, to be conducted by the
department/institute/centre concerned, However, the department/ institute/
centre shall prepare a separate merit list of candidates seeking admission
under the sports category on the basis of the result of the entrance
examination.
16. Scholarship, Medal & Prizes
Refer to the ordinance XXVII of the University calendar or the university
website: www.du.ac.in. For details candidates are advised to University of

18. Residential/Hostel Accommodation
All candidates seeking admission to hostel in the University are required
to appear in the entrance test even if they are eligible for admission under
direct category. The merit list to the Hostels will be drawn solely on the
basis of performance in the entrance test.
The University has limited residential accommodation in Colleges and
University Hostels. The Colleges provide accommodation to both
under-graduate and post-graduate students enrolled with them. In the Main
Campus the following colleges provide Hostel accommodation to their
students:
(A) For Men
St. Stephens College, Hindu College, Hans Raj College, K.M., College,
Ramjas College, Shri Ram College of Commerce and Zakir Husain
College.
(B) For Women
Miranda House, Daulat Ram College and I.P. College,

of Education (Deptt. of Education).
(D) For Post-graduate, M.Phil and Ph.D. students of different Faculties (in
Main and South Campus) except those Faculties which have their own

19. Maintenance of discipline among students of the
University (Ordinance XV-B)
(i) All powers relating to discipline and disciplinary action are vested
with the Vice-Chancellor.
(ii) The Vice-Chancellor may delegate all or such powers as he/she
deems proper to the Proctor and to such other persons as he/she
may specify in this behalf.
(iii) Without prejudice to the generality of power to enforce discipline
under the Ordinance the following shall amount to acts of gross
indiscipline:
(a) Physical assault, or threat to use physical force, against any
member of the teaching and non-teaching staff of any Institution/
Department and non-teaching staff of any Institution/Department
and against any student within the University of Delhi.
(b) carrying or use of, or threat to use of any weapons:
(c) any violation of the provisions of the Civil Rights Protection Act
1976:
(d) violation of the status, dignity and honour of students belonging to
the scheduled castes and tribes:
(e) any practice-wheather verbal or otherwise derogatory to women.
(f) any attempt for bribing or corruption in any manner.
(g) willful destruction of Institutional property;
(h) creating ill-will or intolerance, on religious or communal grounds;
(i) causing disruption in any manner of the academic functioning of
the University system;

(ii) ragging as per Ordinance XV-C.
(iv) Without prejudice to the generality of his/her powers relating to the
maintaining disciplines and taking such action in the interest of
maintaining discipline as may seem to him appropriate, the
Vice-Chancellor, may in the exercise of his/her power in accordance
with aforesaid order direct that:
(a) any student or students be expelled, or
(b) any student or students be, for a stated period rusticated;
or
(c) be not for a started period, admitted to a Course or courses of
study in a college, department or institution of the university or (d)
be fined with a sum of rupees that may be specified; or (e) debarred
from taking a University or college or departmental Examination or
Examinations for one or more years; or
(f) that the result of the student or students concerned in the
Examination or Examinations in which he/she or they have appeared
be cancelled.
(v) The Principal of the College, Head of the Halls, Warden/Master or Head
of the Department, Deans of the Faculties exercise all such disciplinary
power over students in their respective colleges, Institutions, Faculties
and Teaching Departments in the University as may be necessary for
the proper conduct of the Institutions. Halls and teaching in the
concerned Departments. They may exercise their authority or delegate
authority to such of the teachers in their colleges, Institutions or
Departments as they may specify for these purpose.
(vi) Without prejudice to the powers of the Vice-Chancellor and the Proctor
as aforesaid, detailed rules of discipline and proper conduct shall be
farmed. These rules may be supplemented, where necessary, by the
Principals of Colleges, Heads of the Halls, Deans of Faculties and
Heads of Teaching Departments in this University. Each student shall
be expected to provide himself/herself with a copy of these rules.
(vii) At the time of admission, every student shall be required to sign a
declaration that on admission he/she submits himself/herself to the
disciplinary jurisdiction of the Vice-Chancellor and the several authorities
of the University who may be vested with the authority to exercise
discipline under tha Acts, the Statutes, the Ordinance and the rules
that have been framed there under by the University.

The complaints relating to ragging in any form will be dealt in with
Ordinance Xv-C of university calendar & available on the University

21. Sexual Harassment - Complaints and Redressal
All matters/complaints relating to Sexual Harassment shall be dealt
in accordance with the provisions of Ordinance XV-D of the University
of Delhi and available on the university website : www.du.ac.in.
22. Helpline Counselling Service on Population, Education
in Higher Education
Delhi University HELPLINE TELEPHONE COUNSELLING SERVICE
on HIV, AIDS, STD, Drug-Abuse, Adolescent issues is available on
27667280. The services are available from 9-30 a.m. to 12.00 noon
and 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday to .Friday, Personal Counselling,
referral service and Postal Counseling are also available for students
on Youth Contact Population Education Resource Centre, Department
of Adult, Continuing Education & Extension, University of Delhi for
further detail (s).
23. Tutorials/Preceptorials/Internal Assessment
(i) The scheme for Inter Assessment shall be followed in the regular
stream only, with exclusions as per the Appendix, and shall be
applicable to the students admitted from the academic session
2003-04 onwards (i.e. to begin with for the first year students) in
both undergraduate and post-graduate degree courses.
(ii) Tutorials shall be held regularly for the post-graduate courses of
the University by the concerned Department in cooperation with
Colleges, and at least 25% marks shall be assigned for Internal
Assessment in each paper of the post-graduate courses. The
Internal Assessment in the post-graduate courses may be based
on regularity and attendance; class tests and house examination;
and written assignments, projects/term papers/seminars/field-work.
Post-graduate courses where the weightage of Internal Assessment
is 25 per cent or more, Department may continue with the existing
schems.
(iii) Tutorials and Preceptorials are compulsory for all the students.

The written test to be conducted for admission to M.A. in Buddhist
Studies shall be of three-hour duration and shall consist of type
questions which will required essay type answer based upon B.A.
Programme in Buddhist Studies Course of the University of Delhi. On
the basis of this test, a merit list shall be prepared by the Department
Admission Committee and admission shall be offered. There shall be
usual registration as per the University Rules.
(ii) Those who have passed Buddhist Studies as subject at Graduate level
and/or have done Certificate/Diploma Course in Pali, Sanskrit, Tibetan,
Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Prakrit, Archaeology and Epigraphy shall
be given weightage of 5% Marks in admission eligibility and shall also
be exempted from entrance test. However, any of these candidates
shall have to appear in the Entrance Test for the purpose of inclusion of
names in the merit list to be prepared for admission to Hostel etc.

(ii) ALL CANDIDATES seeking admission / readmission to the MA proramme
are required to apply in the prescribed form to the Department of English,
Arts Faculty (Main Campus), University of Delhi, Delhi 110007.
(iii) The application from is dowloadable from the URL http://englishdu.ac.in/
& also available at the office of the Department of English, Arts Faculty
(Main Campus), from 1to17 June,2011 on cash payment of Rs.20/-.
(iv) A non-refundable Registration fee of Rs. 250/- (Rs. 100/- for SC/ST
candidates) has to be paid through a Demand Draft drawn on the State
Bank of India (payable at Delhi) in favour of "The Registrar, University of
Delhi" alomg with the completed form.
(v) Completed forms should reach the office latest by 17 June 2011.
Incomplete forms & forms not accompanied by self attested copies of
relevant documents will be rejected forthwith without any intimation.
(vi) There two categories for admission to the MA Programme:
a. Category I:Direct admission
b. Category II: Entrance test
(vii) 50% of seats in all category (i.e. General, SC, ST, & OBC) in both the
campuses (i.e. Main & South) & in the NCWEB are set aside for direct
admission for candidates belonging to Category I & the remaining 50%
of seats for Category II.
(viii) Any seat falling vacant under category I will be transferred to category
II ensuring that General Category seats are transferred to General
Category, & SC/ST/OBC seats are transferred to the corresponding
category.

(ix) Candidates seeking admission under category I are advised to go through
section 2.1 below carefully.
(x) Candidates appearing for the Entrance test will require two copies of
their recent passport size photograph signed by them- one to be affixed
on the application form & other on the Registration slip-cum Admit
Ticket. The Registration slip-cum Admit Ticket (which has to be produced
at the time of the Entrance Test) will be issued at the time of Registration.
No separate admission ticket will be issued for the Entrance Test.
(xi) The calsses for all the student who get admitted to the colleges will be
held at the respective campuses - i.e. in the Main Campus for those
who get admitted to the Main Campus colleges & in the South Campus
for those who get admitted to the South Campus colleges. The NCWEB
conducts classes for the students who are admitted to NCWEB & the
classes are held only on Sundays.
1.2 Note for candidates seeking admission under category I:
(i) Please note that securing 60% (or above) in BA Honours from University
of Delhi dose not autimatically ensure admission or the availability of
the campus of your choice. Direct admission for Category I will be on
the basis of a separate Merit list & will be subject to the availability of
seats. Therfore, all candidates seeking admission under category I are
also strongly advised to appear for the Entrance.
(ii) A candidates who secures admission under Category I will not be given
admission under Category II (even if her name appears in the Merit List
for Catogory II). In case the BA Honours results of the University of
Delhi are announced after the result of the Entrance Candidates who
have been placed under Category II will be such abjusted against
Category I in case their names figure in the merit list of category I. Such
seats falling vacant under category II will be made available to other
qualified candidates.
(iii) Notwithstanding the above, a student who is shortlisted for admission
in both category I & II is allowed to exercise her choice in case such a
choice enables her to get the campus of her choice.
(iv) In case seats remain vacant in the 50 % seats set aside for Category I,
such seats will be made available to the same category (i.e. General,
SC,St, & OBC) in Category II.
2. Choice of Campus:
(i) Apart from the Main Campus & the South Campus, MA English can
also be pursued through the Non-Collegiate Woman's Education Borad

(NCWEB). (See 4 Below for the eligibility requirement for admission to
the NCWEB)
(ii) The Merit List for the Main & the South Campuses & the NCWEB will
be different.
(iii) Candidates are required to indicate their choice of the campus (i.e.
Main, South, or NCWEB) in the order of preference in the relevant column
in the Application Form.
(iv) Please note that the availability of your preference may depend on the
cut off that is announced for each Merit List.
(v) If the first preference of a candidate is not available in a given Merit List,
the second preference will be considered, & if that is not available then
the third will be considered.
(vi) Please exercise care while choosing the campus as no request for
change of campus will be entertained after the Registration. Moreover,
once a candidate has been made an offer of admission on the basis of
her second or third preferance of campus, she becoms automatically
ineligible for consideration for admission (on the basis of her First or
second preference in the subsequent lists.
3. Non-Collegiate Women's Education Board (NCWEB):
(i) Only a woman candidates residing within the territorial jurisdiction of
the University i.e. "NCT of Delhi" shall be entitled to be enrolled in the
NCWEB.
(ii) Apart from submitting the Application from in the Department of English,
candidates seeking admission to NCWEB are also required to register
themselves separately in the NCWEB on the dates which will be notified
on the notice board at the Department of English, Main Campus.
4. The Entrance Test
(i) There will be a common Entrance Test for Admission to the MA
programme for the Main Campus, the South Campus & the NCWEB
conducted by the Department of English.
(ii) The test will be held in the Department of English, Main Campus, Arts
Faculty, University of Delhi, Delhi-110007.
(iii) The Entrance Test will be designed to test the candidates' proficiency in
English language (including comprehension and writing skills) and their
knowledge of English literature and other literatures.

(iv) The duration of the test will be 90 minutes & it test will comprise three
parts:
Part A: objective type questions (50marks)
Part B: a question on an unseen passege of prose or verse
(25 marks)
Part C: a short essay question on a general literary topic (25 marls)
(iii) For candidates beloging to the General Category, the Department may
dix a cutoff mark for Part A after reviewing the overall perfomance. The
parts B & C of only those candidates who clear the cut off be evaluated.
No such cut off may be dixed for Part A for candidates beloging to the
Reserved Categories.
(5) Declaration of Entrance Results.
(i) The marks & ranks of all the candidates who score the minimum qualifying
marks & above will be displayed in the notice board at the Department
on the specified date. (It will be also available on the University website.)
(ii) Please note that a General Candidates has to score 40% & an OBC
candidates has to score 30% in the Entrance Test in order to be eligible
for admission. There is no minimum reqirement for SC/ST candidates.
(iii) Please note that clearing the Entrance Test does not assure a candidate
of admission. Admission is based solely on the Merit List that will be
published subsequently.
(iv) Outstation candidates are hence reqested to wait till the publication of
the Merit List before they proceed with their travel to Delhi.
(6) Issue of Admission slips & Admission:
(i) Admission slips for admission to the colleges of the Main Campus,
South Campus & to the NCWEB (only to those enrolled with the Non-
Collegiate Woman's Education Board) will be issued from the office of
the Department of English at the Main Campus on the notified dates.
(ii) For admission to category II, the list will be prepared on the basis of the
marks obtained in the Entrance Test & the choices of the campus
indicated by the candidate in the Application form.
(iii) Candidates have to produce the original Degree Certificate/Provisional
Certificate & mark sheets & their attested copies when they collect the
Admission slip.
(iv) After collecting the admission slip, the candidates has to go to the
college of her choice with all the relevant documents in the original to
secure admission.
(v) In case, the college of the choice of the candidates has no vacant seats,
the candidates has to approach another college. Note that a candidate
who has been given the admission slip to a particular campus can only
seek admission in another College in the same campus. Hence
candidates are advised to familiarize themselves with a few colleges in
the campuses of their choice before they indicate their prefernce.
(vi) Outstation candidates should note that the process of admission may
take a number of days after the publication of the Result, & hence be
prepared.
7. Reservation.
(i) The Depertment follows all the rules & regulations of the University of
Delhi with regard to relaxation in the eligiblity criterion in admission &
reservation of seats in its MA programme.
(ii) 5% of relaxation of marks in the qualifying examination (i.e. the Bachelor's
degree) is given to SC/ST/PH students in the eligibility as per University
norms. Relaxation of marks is given to SC/ST candidates in the Entrance
test marks as specified in this bruchure.
(iii) Candidates beloging to all categories should appear for the Entrance
test to be considered for admission in category II.
(iv) Separate Merit lists will be drawn for each category & for each campus.
(v) All the provisions for SC/ST/OBC & other reserved categories will be
the same as those contained in the bulletin of information issued by the
Faculty of Arts University of Delhi.
(vi) As per communication received by the university from the UGC,The
OBC status is to be determined on the basis of the certral list of OBC
notified by the ministry of social justics & Empowerment on the
recommendation of the National Commission for Baclward Classes
available at the website of the commission (http://ncbc.nic.in/
backwardclasses/index.hmtl).
(vii) It is mandatory that the candidates seeking admission under OBC
category should produce a non creamy layer certificate from the
competent authority.
(viii) The Depertment also provides reservation of seats for candidates who
seek to apply under Sports Category. Such candidates need to apply
directly to Delhi University sports council & get their application forwarded.

8. Hostel Admission.
(i) Admission to the University Hostel is Solely in the basis on the Merit
List of the Entrance. Hence, all candidates seeking admission to a
university Hostel should appear for the Entrance Test.
(ii) The procedure for admission to the University Hostels will begin only
after the commencement of the programme.

M.A. LINGUISTICS
All eligible candidate who apply for admission to the M.A. Linguistics
course will be called for an admission test to be conducted at the Department
of Linguistics, University of Delhi, Delhi. On the basis of their performance
(with a minimum pass percentage of 40% in the admission test) candidates,
(not more than five times the number of seats available) in order of merit,
will be called for an interview. Candidates called for interview will be required
to produce all their original certificates/degree, mark-sheets of Secondary
School, Senior Secondary, B.A./B.Sc. Pass or Honours and M.A.
Examination etc. and other connected documents for verification.
Admission Lists will be prepared on the basis of academic record (30%
weightage) performance in the admission test (50% weightage) and interview
(20% weightage). For determaning the academic record performance
percentage or Bachelor Degree Examination or the Masters Degree
Examination, whichever is best, will be taken into consideration. The decision
of the Linguistics Department Admission Committee will be final building on
