Chapter 1: Introduction
Overview
SmarTeam Design Express for CATIA is an easily implemented solution for collaborative Product Data Management for design teams tailored specifically to CATIA design methodologies. Built on top of the SmarTeam CATIA Integration the solution consists of a SmarTeam database, scripts and icons, demo data and CATIA scripts. It is accompanied by additional presentations and documentation including methodology, training guides and an implementation plan.
2 Click any key. The Welcome to the Install Wizard screen appears:
3 In the Welcome to the Install Shield Wizard for SmarTeam Design Express for CATIA window, click Next. The Custom Setup screen appears:
4 From the list of features, select the features you want install. Note: By default only the components necessary for a client machine are automatically selected. 5 Select CATIA Client Components to open the CATIA Client Components feature. 6 Click the button.
7 Select "This feature and all subfeatures will be installed on the local hard drive". 8 Select Demo Data to open the Demo Data feature. 9 Click on the button and from the Install submenu shown above, select "This feature and all subfeatures will be installed on the local hard drive". Note: The CATIA catalog is automatically installed into C:\Program Files\SmarTeam\SDE_CATIA\CATIA Catalog. This location cannot be changed.
10 Click Next. 11 If you select Database, the Database server window will appear:
12 Enter the User name and Password to log on to the SQL database server, and click Next.
Note: The User name entered must be the name of an administrator of the SQL Server. 13 In the Ready to Install window, click Install to begin the installation process. 14 During the installation process, the Installing SmarTeam Design Express for CATIA window indicates the progress of the installation.
15 In the Installation Complete window, click Finish to exit the installation process.
SmarTeam Design Express for CATIA is installed and ready for use.

After the SmarTeam Design Express for CATIA software has been installed, you must perform the following post-installation tasks as described in this chapter: 1 Use the Database Connection Manager to verify that: the client is connected to the database the database SDE-CATIA is the default database 2 In order for SmarTeam to work with CATIA, you need to set up the CATIA environment. (refer to Setting the CATIA Environment). 3 You must set the SmarTeam for CATIA Options (refer to Configuring SmarTeam for CATIA Options). 4 The configuration key, Catia.ExposeMode needs to be changed in the Overide level to Domain and the value specified to "NO" (refer to SmarTeam Configuration Settings). 5 Configure the CATIA settings (refer to Configuring CATIA Settings). 6 In order for SmarTeam to work with CATIA, you must specify the SmarTeam Parts Catalog location (refer to CATIA Catalog Registration ). 7 After registering your CATIA Parts Catalog, your CATIA macros must now be registered (refer to CATIA Macros registration). 8 Create a CATIA Macro Icon (refer to Creating CATIA Macro Icons).

3 In the Life Cycle Options window: Select Out of Vault tab Select Last revision policy for overwrite local files upon Check Out/Copy Click OK

From the Part Infrastructure option: Click the Display tab Select the following in the Specification Tree, Constraints, Parameters, and Relations

2 In the Product Structure option: Click the Product Structure tab In Part Number, select Manual input.
3 In the Nodes Customization tab, enter in all Customized Display options, #PN# to display the product structure.

4 From the Tree Customization tab, verify that Parameters are activated to Yes in the Specification Tree Order.
5 In the Compatibility Options, select Graphic Formats. From the Export (Save As) field, select PDF and click Configuration. From the Advance Configuration window, select Save as one PDF file and click OK

6 In the Assembly Design Option: Click General tab From Update propagation depth, select All the levels.
7 In the Drafting Options: Click the Layout tab. In the Background View, create a path for accessing the title block, C:\Program Files\SMARTEAM\SDE_CATIA\.CATIA TitleBlock in order to define the drawing frame

8 In the Annotation and Dress-Up tab: Define the Balloon Creation numbering for the BOM to be Part number
9 To work with the Analysis and Simulation Options window, the user needs to create a local temp directory. From the Analysis and Simulation Options: Click the External Storage tab. Select both, the Default CATAnalysisResults File Folder and Default CATAnalysisComputations File Folder, to Always Enter in both, the Default CATAnalysisResults File Folder and Default CATAnalysisComputations File Folder, the path of the local temp directory in the Open field

10 In the General Options: Click the Document tab. Define the search order for document. Note that the order of the values is important, SmarTeam must always be on top. Click OK Exit CATIA

14 From the Catalog Browser: Click Open The Browse Icon appears on the CATIA main window
15 Click File from the Browse Icon The File Selection window appears Select Market.catalog by entering C:\Program Files\ SMARTEAM\SDE_CATIA\CATIA Catalog Directory Click Open

4 From the Icon browser: Choose an Icon and from the Customize window, drag and drop the new macro to the target toolbar. Notes: To remove a command from the toolbar, drag and drop it back into the Command list. To assign additional macros, repeat steps 1 to 4.
