INTERVENTION PLAN ON THE CRIMINOLOGY PROGRAM


Creation of Curriculum Committee

Mission and Goals. The mission of the curriculum committee is to provide guidance, advocacy and supervision by ensuring that the curriculum is academically sound, comprehensive and responsive to the evolving needs of the community, thus serving the college mission, goals and the educational needs of the students. The curriculum committee is a standing committee established for the purpose of facilitating curricular review, development and completion. The committee is charged with maintaining the integrity of academic activities within the educational institution including changes existing programs, development of new programs, and clarification and/or modification academic policies. It also has responsibility for ensuring a systematic

process for examining academic issues than can emerge from proposal for curricular change in the educational institution. The Curriculum Committee Chair. A key role on the committee is that played by the chair. The role of the faculty chair varies significantly from college to college, particularly with the size of the institution. The

104 following are the typical duties of the committee chair such as prepare agendas, conduct the committee meetings, edit minutes, set the calendar of the committee meetings, supervise the orientation of the new members and ongoing training of the continuing members, , assist discipline faculty in the curriculum development process, assure the committee functions take place smoothly, report regularly to the members of the committee, and sign off of the final version of the curriculum to the board. The suggested composition of the committee would be: the Chair representing the academe, representatives from the professional Organization like Philippine Criminologist Association of the Philippines (PCAP) and Philippine Educators Association for Criminology Education (PEACE), representatives from the industry and the various law enforcement agencies and other government offices like the office of the Philippine Nation Police (PNP), the office of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Administration (PDEA), the office of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), the office of the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP), the office of Bureau of Jail management and penology (BJMP) and representative from the Philippine Association and Detective and Private Security Agency Operator (PADPAO), representative from DEPED, CHED and TESDA. The

105 number of members could be increased depending upon the discretion of the committee, based on the result on the interaction, consultation, decision, need assessment and justification of what kind of curriculum is needed by the law enforcement service and other government offices, private commercial establishment and the community in general. Competency needs. The committee should look into the

inconsistency between the competency needs acquired by the graduates against the competency needs required by the law enforcement agencies and other private establishment and provide ways and means to address the existing problem. As shown in the tabulated data from Table 28, all above-mentioned skills were needed both graduate and law enforcement offices and private companies. Therefore, the committees should focus the curricular activities to students that would help, develop and strengthen skills on human relations, problem solving and information and communication skills. Finally, the proposed intervention plan on institutional plan is outlined and tabulated in the succeeding pages.
