Jesus was born in Bethlehem, Judea. According to the Gospels, Jesus was not the son of Joseph in the ordinary sense. He was miraculously conceived by Mary throu gh God, without any human father. That is why Christians say that he was conceiv ed by the Holy Ghost, born to the Virgin Mary. 5 BC Visited by the Magi The Bible tells us how the Magi (wisemen/priests with supernatural powers from a ncient Persia) from the East brought presents to the infant Christ. Jesus left Galilee and returned to Jerusalem. Soon, he realized that his teachin gs had aroused opposition. Worse still, he knew that one of his own disciples wa s turning against him. Jesus knew that the danger was great, and he must prepare for the end. He gathered his 12 disciples together for a final meal, Known as the Last Supper , and explained to them that his death was necessary because it would establish a new covenant between God and man, and it would be the disciples' duty to sprea d Jesus' teachings after he had gone. He took bread and wine, blessed it and gav e it to his disciples saying, "This is my body...this is my blood". Christians r emember this when they celebrate Holy Communion. ----------------30 AD Friday Arrest and Trial After the meal, The Last Supper (Matthew 26:20-30; Mark 14:17-26; Luke 22:14-38; John 13:21-30) In the Garden of Gethsemane (Matthew 26:36-46; Mark 14:32-42; Luke 22:39-45)

The Religious Leaders Condemn Jesus (Matthew 27:1-2; Mark 15:1; Luke 22:66-7 1) They took him to the Jewish leaders for trial. The High Priest asked Jesus, "Ar t thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed, and Jesus replied, "I am". Consequent ly, he was sentenced to death. The sentence the Jewish leaders had passed could not be carried out until it had been approved by the Roman governor of Judea, Po ntius Pilate. 6 a.m. Jesus Stands Trial Before Pilate (Matthew 27:11-14; Mark 15:2-5; Luke 23:1-5; John 18:28-37) Pilate was uncertain what to do and after consulting the crowd he gave in and s entenced Jesus to be crucified (this was the Roman method of executing criminals by nailing them to a cross).
