Historia History Through wide genealogical research of Polish historical archives and by research in other countries it has been discovered that the Szygenda surname is unique and belongs to every Szygenda family and that all people with the Szygenda surname come from Spawie in Konin county, central Poland. We are one family! The earliest archives that mention Szygenda families come from the year 1715 - in Spawie. Everybody whose last name is Szygenda and all Szygenda relatives have their historical roots in Spawie, Poland!! The Szygenda family is composed of everybody with that last name, their children, parents and all Szygenda descendants related also by female lines. We all are one big Szygenda family, although we come from different countries.

The Szygenda surname is spelled differently by certain branches of the family. Our surname is Szygenda or Schakenda (Scandinavian descendants of Stanisaw Szygenda), or Sygenda (descendants of Andrzej Szygenda) or Sedney (descendants of Jakub Szygenda) and many, many more like: Szygende, Szygenta, Szygienda, Szhakande, Szgenda , Szgendowski, etc. We all come from the same forefather, who started our big family in Spawie around 1715. More details about ancestors of our line and current events will be available at the Szygenda Reunion.

Family reunion is a time for common joy, hugs and kisses in a warm family atmosphere. The Reunion gives us a sense of belonging, not only to the family of mankind but also to the Szygenda family. The Family Reunion is a great adventure and an opportunity to study family history and legends. It is a chance to strike up an acquaintance with family members all over the world. All the family traditions are renewed, blossom out and revive during Reunion. At the same time, thanks to bonds of love we create new family traditions that may be celebrated by future generations. One of the main reasons why the Family Reunion is being organized is to stay in touch with all Szygenda family members. Our Szygenda Reunion 2012 has an additional purpose. This historical gathering is a great opportunity to get to know our family heritage for the last three centuries. We will discover the past and plan the future.

Pomys The Idea

The idea for the Family Reunion comes from a few Szygenda family members from different corners of the world. They tried to find their family roots individually and through their hard work and genealogical search they finally discovered each other. Their joy and amazement of physical resemblance and common family history contributed to their wish for a meeting. Everybody felt that a Szygenda Reunion should be organized. Every ordinary family gathers together from time to time. We are sure that 250 years ago Szygenda brothers (Florian, Grzegorz, Jzef and Tomasz) participated in such an event in Spawie. Nowadays, 250 years later we all have a chance to gather around one table. There are so many things we can share and learn from each other. So many fam-

ily stories can still be told.

REUNION ABC

The Second Szygenda Reunion is organized in Swarzdz, (around 70km from our forefathers land). The meeting will occur in a lovely "palace", known as the Mansion Under the Linden Trees - Palacyk pod Lipami, ul. Poznaska 35, 62-020, Swarzdz near Poznan - tel. 61 8173 147

9.00 am Participant's registration. Those who participate for the first time will be asked to sign in to the Participants Book and fill in a questionnaire to supplement the Szygenda genealogical tree.

11.00 am -- We will officially open the reunion

15.00 pm Dinner

Evening A bonfire with singing !

Participation in the reunion is free of charge, however all costs like: meals, renting of the premises and assorted costs will be covered by participant's contributions. A welcome contribution of 20zloty (34 Danish Krone or $6 US dollars) will be collected during registration. All participants are very welcome to donate more funds to help recover the significant expense of renting the very large meeting room.

We will all have a lot of fun and enjoy each others company during this Reunion. There will be a multimedia presentation of our Szygenda history. Moreover, we will have a chance to enlarge our genealogical tree. There will also be a hot soup and the possibility to buy a meal from the restaurant catering department. If possible, bring some special food from your home to share with everyone, or bring a prepared salad from the supermarket or deli! We all look forward to tasting the delicious food prepared by our aunts, grandmothers and cousins. Children can play in the beautiful park.

On the second Reunion day - 29.07.2012 (Sunday) at noon we will gather for Church mass in our Szygenda family Golina church. The mass is dedicated to all Szygenda families. Our cousin, the priest Zbigniew Szygnda will hold the service. Those who would like to visit the graves of our forefathers/ ancestors will have a chance to do that after the service.

Additional attractions

We are planning to organize tours to Golina and Spawie and the ancestral counties of our forefathers/ ancestors. This is about a 45-minute drive from Poznan. We do not know all the details yet, but it will surely be possible on Friday (27.07) or Sunday (29.07).
