There is nothing scarier than man itself...

is a statement that has been proven true in the book: Lord of the Flies written by William Golding. In this tale, a group of boys get stranded on n isolated island and have to figure out a way to survive and rescue. Over the progression, the boys soon said goodbye to civilized life and delved into a world of savagism. Form schoolboys to painted beats, these boys, who are originally stranded on an island, submiss themselves to a life of savagery and rid themselves of their civilized origins. As the boys started to adjust themselves to a new life with no structure, establishment or even any adult supervision, they acted as per their wish yet were held back by the invisible constraints of civilization. In the first exploration itself, Jack found a pig and was tempted to kill it. He raised his arm in the air. There came a pause, a hiatusThe pause was only long enough for them to understand what an enormity the downward stroke would be. (31) In this confrontation with eh killing of a life, jack wanted to kill the pig, yet a voice from his ego/superego warned him that it would be quite unethical and immoral to do so. His proves how the boys were momentarily influenced by their savage instincts to act unruly and be brutal tot eh poor pig, yet their civilized instinct pulled them away. This shows how the boys were aware of their sense, yet easily subject to the imposing temptation to kill. As a few weeks passed by since their abandonment on the island, the boys went on a hunt to find the beast. In the middle, they were intercepted by a boar, which Ralph was proud to master. Soon they got so caught up in the whim and Robert pretended to be a pig and reenact a mockery. After, Roberts insistent complaint about pain, they stopped but admitted that they thoroughly enjoyed the game. Instead of stopping there each person suggested ways to improve the experience. I dunno. You want a fire, I think, and a drum, and you keep time to the drum. You want a piglike a real hunt. Or someone to pretendyou could get someone to dress up as a pig and then he could act you know, pretend to knock me over and all that. You want a real pig...because youve got to kill him. Use a little un, said Jack, and everybody laughed. (115) these suggestions for an improved experience show how the boys willingly would become savages to satisfy the id side of their brain. As the conversation progressed, he boys want to kill a real pig and even be brutal to an innocent kid just for their pleasure. As the days winded down, Simon died. Piggy died. Samneric were captured. Ralph was left all alone to fend for himself against Jack and his savage group of boys. AS Ralph is pursued and narrowly misses them, and realizes that the roar of the forest rose to a thunder and a tall bush directly in his path burst into a great fan-shaped flame. He swung to the right, running desperately fast, with the heat beating on his left side and the fire racing forward like a tide. The ululation rose behind himthey were all running, all crying out madly. He could hear them crashing in the undergrowth and on the left was the hot, bright thunder of the fire. (200) This shows that the boys submitted to the power of savagism and were willing to burn sown the island just to kill a boy. They would eventually kill themselves but were acting mindlessly just to satisfy their hunting need in their savage lifestyle. This ultimately shows how they led from being afraid to hurt a pig to fearlessly/ruthlessly becoming obsessed with killing one of their own.
