COLUMBA CATHOLIC CHURCH June 17, 2012 Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

SAN DIEGO

Pastors Corner ~
WORK IN PROGRESS, this is what we often hear when we talk of people or things that failed our expectations and yet we know they can be and can do better. The phrase gives a sense of hope that a person or a thing can become better and the fullest potential can be attained in the future. It is a consolation to know that life involves growth, that even if at the present moment things are far from being perfect, we look forward to better days in life until the time that fullness and maturity comes. The parables about the KINGDOM OF GOD speak in this same perspective. Gods kingdom is not a pie in the sky that we need to look up to find it. The reality of the kingdom begins with our earthly life. When Jesus came to us and sowed the seeds of goodness amidst all the evils in the world, He inaugurated Gods kingdom through his teachings and in His Person. The seed of the kingdom is in us and God waits patiently for our growth. He assures that we do not lack in anything we need to grow and help His kingdom grow towards maturity. On earth, the kingdom of God is a work in progress. Like St. Paul, we believe that He who has begun His work in us will see that it is truly finished when the Day of Jesus comes (Phil.1:6). The perfection of this kingdom will be in eternity.
