Data Center Infrastructure Solutions

By outfitting your IT facility with Dell rack enclosures, PDUs, UPS systems, digital KVM remote console switches and other complementary accessories, you can design a successful and highly efficient IT environment.

Dell Rack Enclosures

No data center is complete without a suitable rack enclosure. Dell PowerEdge rack enclosures are designed to accommodate a wide range of IT equipment while supporting enhanced power management, efficient cooling and flexible cable management. Using Dell ReadyRails static and sliding rail kits, Dell server, storage and networking systems can be easily installed into 48U PowerEdge 4820, 42U PowerEdge 4220, and 24U PowerEdge 2420 rack models. Dell ReadyRails kits are designed to quickly snap into square- hole and unthreaded round- hole racks without tools. Dell accessories such as PDU and UPS products also mount into Dell racks without tools making deployment simple and easy. With removable back doors, tailbars, and a sliding top access panel with top canopy knock- outs, Dell racks help significantly simplify the cabling of IT equipment. In addition, Dell rack enclosures are designed to maximize airflow and reduce thermal issues, enhancing efficiency and power savings for the data center. Rack Types The PowerEdge 4820 and PowerEdge 4220 models are available in three form factors: Standard (600 mm wide by 1,070 mm deep) Wide (750 mm wide by 1,070 mm deep) Deep (600 mm wide by 1,200 mm deep) The wide and deep versions offer additional space to facilitate power and cable management for higher density applications such as blade servers and HPC. The 2420 model is available in the standard form factor. Energy Smart Racks Designed for data centers with raised- floor cooling and supporting Density on Demand up to 25 kW, the new Energy Smart rack enclosure from Dell is the best choice for efficient energy usage. The Energy Smart rack is available in 40U (based on 42U) and 46U (based on 48U) capacities with integrated cold- air containment.

Power Protection (UPS)

Available with a three- year warranty including batteries, Dell UPS systems are available as line- interactive and online models in tower and rack- mount styles. These UPS systems protect equipment from downtime, damage, and data loss due to power problems. During a power outage, the UPS systems provide enough time for IT staff to save data and shut down equipment properly. As an added benefit, Dell UPS systems help protect against power surges and disruptive line noise.

Dell UPS Features Three- year warranty including batteries One- stop- shop through Dell Support Free- of- charge power management software Toolless rack mounting using Dell ReadyRails interface Advanced multilingual LCD for easy access to local status and configuration Optional network management card for remote monitoring and configuration Optional extended battery module available for some models

Power Distribution (PDU)

Dell PDUs help provide reliable power distribution in a rack enclosure from low- amperage, single- phase circuits to higher- power, three- phase solutions. Dell PDU Features Horizontal and vertical form factors Basic, Metered, and Managed technologies Single- or three- phase input power options (10A to 63A) Toolless installation through button rack mounting Rack temperature of up to 50C (122F) User- resettable circuit breakers with accidental trip protection Remote firmware upgrades and environmental monitoring support (Metered and Managed PDUs only) Three- year warranty

PDU Installation Vertical PDUs can be installed without tools using button rack mounting. Cords can be managed by facing the outlets toward the center of the rack or turning the outlets 90 degrees to direct the outlets toward the back of the rack. PDU Types Metered and Managed PDUs provide advanced power metering and environmental monitoring. Managed PDUs offer access to each receptacle. User- defined alarms can warn of potential circuit overloads before critical IT failures occur. Administrators can monitor and manage PDUs with embedded firmware through secure Web, SNMP, or Telnet interfaces, or through the Dell Management Console powered by Altiris from Symantec, which provides IT administrators with a consolidated view of their infrastructure.

KVM-over-IP Switches
In a data center, centralized management links devices for efficient access. Dell KVM remote console switches, also called KVM- over- IP switches, enable administrators to use only one keyboard, mouse and monitor to simultaneously access multiple devices, including servers, routers, switches and storage heads. The Dell KVM 1082DS, 2162DS, and 4322DS models perform management in a heterogeneous environment for Dell and third- party servers, serial devices, and PDUs. In addition, Dell KVM switches help simplify server management with integrated firmware and provide access, both locally in the data center and remotely, with enhanced features including Common Access Card (CAC) capability, true serial support, and multiple USB ports. Administrators can manage Dell KVM switches and perform KVM functions over a local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN) with client software or a Web interface. In addition, administrators can easily update and install firmware, applications and operating systems either locally or remotely using virtual media or a local USB drive. Learn More
