The 72 Hour Endurance Challenge In april 2010 Isuzu made a promise to smash all existing south african distance and speed records in the commercial Vehicle category. and they delivered just that by rewriting 15 records in total over the course of 72 hours and 12,243.385 kilometres. to put this remarkable achievement in perspective, the distance achieved equals approximately the distance from table Mountain to the statue of liberty in new york. yet another overwhelming example of Isuzus incredible endurance and reliability! for this mission 3 Isuzu KB 300 d-teQ lWB le bakkies and 2 Isuzu KB 250 d-teQ extended cab le bakkies were nominated to take part. drivers worked in shifts averaging 2 hours 30 minutes (as per Motorsport south africa regulations) and at least one of the Isuzu KB 300 d-teQ single cab bakkies had to average more than 160 km/h. this included time in the pits for refuelling and tyre changes. SAVING LIVES
The true stories of Operations Rachel and Mandume are about overcoming incredible obstacles and most importantly saving lives by stopping crime one weapon at a time. In 1995 a crime initiative between the south african and Mozambican police was born. operation rachels goal was to find and destroy illegal arms caches hidden throughout Mozambique and eradicate cross-border trading and escalating crime in both countries. But the challenges proved immense and devastating floods would eventually grind operations to a halt. the heavy military vehicles which had been provided were as a result unable to reach the outlying areas. dependable 4x4s were desperately needed and so Isuzu came to the rescue by supplying a fleet of KB bakkies to use throughout the operation. these bakkies would go on to assist in the completion of numerous successful missions. But this was only the beginning. a devastating civil war had also left angola and northern namibia littered with sophisticated arms caches and land mines. new territories present new challenges, but the ever adaptable Isuzu KB bakkies were once again up for the task. the mission of operation Mandume was to find these deadly weapons before they fell into the wrong hands and shattered more lives. the courageous participants in this venture included sadec, sarpcco, and of-course Isuzu, who supplied the team with tougher than tough KB bakkies, trucks and drivers to overcome the tough terrain and harsh conditions. rachel to Mandume. and the result of both these operations countless lives saved!
