=========== iPadChanger for iPad is a small utility for Windows users struggling with organi zing their pictures in a specific order before loading them on their iPads. The goal of the utility is straightforward: keep the order you have defined and force it on the iPad Photo application. Why? ==== The iPad doesn't deal with alphabetical order when displaying your photos. You c an name your files as you want, the iPad won't use this information. Instead, it uses the internal date and time the pictures were shot and imposes this on you. As a workaround, once your pictures are organized -- meaning with alphabetic fil enames that you define to manage the order of the files --, this utility takes e ach picture and changes its internal date/time stamp, in order to fool the iPad. No matter that your first picture was shot in 1980 at 13:35:56 and the next one on 1999 at 09:00:32, the utility will sequentially organize them by changing tho se date/time stamps into 2010/01/01 00:00:00, then 2010/01/01 00:01:00 etc. The increment is 1 minute per picture. How to use ========== It's your task to organize the order of the pictures beforehand. Usually, if you want to prepare a slideshow of your last vacation in Hawaii, you 're likely to name the pictures as hawaii01.jpg, hawaii02.jpg, etc... Once this is done, just use the utility to make sure those pictures will get the appropriate date/time stamps to fool the iPad. 1- Launch ExifDateChanger 2- Select all your pictures and drag them over the application and drop them on its window. That will fill the listbox with their filenames. 3- From there you can click on any file and see its official date/time stamps as well as a quick thumbnail preview 4- Now you have to decide how you want to handle the pictures by selecting an op tion 4.1- "Overwrite originals" will overwrite (huh?) your original pictures so they will keep their original filenames. USE WITH CAUTION. Don't work on actu al original pictures, but work ON COPIES instead. Note that this doesn't affect the quality of the image i tself. 4.2- "Prefix files" will add the prefix string you specify to your pictu res and will keep the originals. This is a safer approach than overwriting. You'll get copies named, say, iPad_hawaii01.jpg, iPad_hawaii02.j pg, etc... You can change the prefix to whatever string you want (10 charac ters max). If you don't specify anything, "iPad_" will be used. 4.3- "Suffix files" will add the suffix string you specify to your pictu res and will keep the originals. This is a safer approach than overwriting. You'll get copies named, say, hawaii01_iPad.jpg, hawaii02_iPad.j pg, etc... You can change the suffix to whatever string you want (10 charac ters max). If you don't specify anything, "_iPad" will be used.

5- If you want, you still can sort the list of files if they're not alphabetical ly sorted. That's a Windows Explorer bug/feature. If you select one file in a li st and then "select all", it will fill the list from that selected file down to the last one, and then complete the list starting from the first file. How much does it cost? ====================== Nothing! ExifDateChanger is free. It's called freeware. You can use it as much as you want, give it to anybody as long as you don't char ge for it and you pass the readme file along. Legal stuff =========== Even though ExifDateChanger is free for you to use, it comes with some restricti ons.
