Proposal To Promote Motivated Education The Problem: How does one instill in the under achievers and trouble

makers in the student body of a high school the desire for success, to acquire self-confidence, respect, improved grade point average and personal appearance without demanding it? The Solution: There is a means available of self-motivating the entire student body by simply teaching a desired course that will avail these positive changes! Of necessity the most valuable lesson anyone may learn in their lifetime is a course on how to sell, negotiate, and network, which will include the interviewing process. Why will this achieve the desired goal? Successful selling and negotiating skills dictate a win, win situation, where both parties benefit, not a win, lose where one party never wants to deal with the other again! Students will be empowered with the confidence and knowledge on how to handle interpersonal relationships as well as difficult situations in a mature manner. More important they will enjoy the experience! It is all how you sell it! In order to entice the student body it will be suggested to them that in order to succeed they will require the proper weapons of war so that they will gain the needed psychological edge. These weapons of war are 1) Proper attitude, 2) Proper dress, and 3) Proper skill set. Proper attitude encompasses a positive attitude about oneself, and the desire to succeed even when one has failed in the past. In order to make this lesson relevant a structured motivational course will be taught. It is suggested that Dale Carnegies How To Win Friends And Influence People be included as one of the courses mandatory reading materials. Who are your heroes? Do you consider yourself a hero as well? Proper dress will be explained how it is a means to achieve success. This will not be mandatory, but suggested as well as subtly presented through the meeting with guest speakers, sales managers, hiring personnel, life coaches, and successful business owners as well as taking class trips to a business environment. Proper skill set will include how to listen; one of the most important devices a salesman and negotiator has, as well as how to communicate. Why do we have two ears and one mouth? So that we may listen twice as much as we talk!

It is to this last point that it will be stressed the most important tool anyone has in selling or negotiating and that being having a solid command of the English language. The students will not be talked down to, but challenged with intelligent vocabulary. Every day the class will start with a motivational lesson. Alexander the Great went to conquer a land of Amazons in southern Africa. What did the leaders of this community tell him that not only deterred the war, but also motivated this world leader to make an arch that stated, I Alexander the Great learned wisdom from the people of this city.? Words do count! Failure precedes success in the dictionary! Capitalizing on failure is a means of achieving ones desired goal. Once a week the students will have a sales meeting where successes and problems of the week will be discussed. Team participation will be stressed as an absolute means to succeed. The group will work on a project that will benefit the school, such as publicity. It will be explained as to how all classes may be used to motivate the students to reach their goal and should be stressed in such a manner. For example as previously mentioned, English is the most valuable tool that a salesman has. Creative writing would be utilized to teach how to write a successful business letter. The television department would be accessed for the students to review how capable they are in selling, negotiating and interviewing! The Benefits: Less fights, better attitude and dress, higher grades, a proactive influence on the entire student body, less need for discipline and teachers will directly benefit by being able to communicate with their students on a more mature level especially if they are competing for a valuable prize! Imagine a disgruntled student negotiating with a teacher by attentively trying to first understand his or her point of view, and then expressing their own! Motivational Idea: One graduating senior will win a coveted prize, the minimum value of $1,000 as well as a statue, the design of which, to be determined. On it will be engraved the school year presented to the named winner as the number one Smooth Operator. Said prizes will be donated by either a philanthropist or business and the award be given away in their name. The winner will be chosen primarily by 1) attitude, 2) skill set, 3) mode of dress, and last, but not the main criteria, 4) grade point average if there is a tie. It is suggested that the judges be made up of human resource personal, sales managers and business personal. Said rules for the contest will be determined at a later date. Everyone who successfully completes the course will receive something, be it a special letter of accommodation, trophy, or pin. The top members of the freshman through junior grades will also receive some type of trophy, but not nearly as elaborate as the senior. You may email me at chawnaw@rocketmail.com
