It is the 3rd most important producer of biodiesel in the EU. The production capacity was 4.284ktep/year in 2010 with around 50 plants. Production capacity of 352ktep/year of ethanol in 2010. One of the most important markets of biomass in Europe (4.315ktep primary energy consumed in 2009) and a great exporter. . Experience in the production of biogas mainly from landfills and biogas, wastewater treatment (production of 184ktep in 2009). Spain is currently investigating new sources to produce biofuels, such as seaweed and wastewater.

2009 sector: First initiatives of collaboration between Spain - China in the sustainability sector: Opens in Beijing (Zhongguancun) the Center for the Promotion of Renewable Energy, Energy sponsored by the Chinese Renewable Energy Society (CRES) and the Spanish association CSETI (Asociacin para la Cooperacin Sino Espaola en Tecnologa e Innovacin ). 2010 First important ASEES milestones: During the New Energy and Energy Efficiency fair of Wenzhou, ASEES contacted with important organizations for a cleaner development. Finally ASEES promoted the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between a Spanish wind power company and a Chinese one for a technology transfer operation operation.

CHRONOLOGY: CHRONOLOGY 2011 First important political breakthroughs: JANUARY: First Vice Premier of PRC Li Keqiang visited Madrid and signed 16 trade agreement related to strategic sectors of the Spanish economy: banking, energy, transport, telecommunications and tourism. In the field of energy, renewable energies and investment, it was signed a MOU for the establishment of bilateral working groups.
