OSPF (Open Short Path First)

Multicast IP 224.0.0.5 (To everyone) 224.0.0.6 (only for DR) AD 110 Algorithm Dijkstras Algorithm (shortest Path first) Metric based = Cost = 100/ Bandwidth in MBPS Each Router Runs SPF itself. Tables Neighbor Table Topology Table Routing Table Packets Hello Packet DBD LSR LSU LSA LSAck Area Types Backbone Area = Its Area0 or very first area of OSPF. All the areas should be in touch with AREA 0. Stub Area = When we dont want any external routes to enter the AREA . We make that Area as a stub area. LSA 5 is blocked Totally Stub Area = When we dont want LSA 3, 4, 5 to enter the area. We make it as totally Stub Area Not So Stubby Area = LSA5 are converted in to the LSA7 as LSA 5 would be blocked.. so external routes which are from that area would be sent to ABR in form of LSA7 and ABR would convert it back to LSA5. LSA Types LSA 1 = Normal Routing Updates in an Area. Advertisements from Internal routers LSA 2 = Which sent by DR/BDR. LSA 3 = Summary Route of ABR LSA 4 = Summary of ASBR contains only IP address of ASBR LSA 5 = Summary Routes of ASBR LSA 7 = NSSA area type LSA 5. = Interface and list of directly connected Hops (Neighbor). = List of all possible routes to reach the destination. = List of best Path to reach the destination.

LSA type 1 Router LSAs are sent from a router to other routers in the same area. It contains information regarding the routers interfaces in the same area, relevant interfaces IPs, its adjacent routers on those interfaces and sub networks LSA type 2 Network LSAs are generated by the DR on a multi access segment, and provides similar information to an LSA type 1 for the multi access segment and subnet which it belongs LSA type 3 Network Summary LSAs are generated by ABRs and contain the subnets & costs but omit the topological data from all subnets in one area and sent to another area via the ABR LSA type 4 -ASBR summary LSAs are from ASBRs and are identical in structure to a type 3 LSA and sent when crossing an AS boundary LSA type 5 -Are AS external LSAs which are originated by ASBRs and describe external networks LSA type 6 Is defined as a Group Membership LSA but not used in Cisco devices LSA type 7 -NSSA External LSAs are generated by the ASBR in an NSSA area LSA type 8 Is defined as a External Attribute LSA but not used in Cisco devices LSA types 9 to 11 Defined as Opaque LSAs and are reserved for future expansion

Redistribution Process of Redistribution Distributing One Routing protocol Routes into another Routing protocol. Problem Arises with the METRIC (distance vector into link state).. Incompatible Metric state. So admin have to manually put the metric.. but there can be 100 of route so we put the default/seed metric. Make sure you go in to the routing problem where you want the routes to go When distributing OSPF to RIP R2 (config) # Router RIP R2 (Config-router) # redistribute OSPF 1 Match Internal / External/ NSSA-External Metric (0 -16) When distributing RIP to OSPF

R2 (config) # Router OSPF 1 R2 (Config-router) # redistribute RIP subnets Metric (0- 16777214) metric-type (1/2 option) Tag (32 bit value) R2 (Config-router) # default-metric 1800 (after putting this command its not mandatory to put the metric command in the redistribution command)
