Two centuries ago, on the shores of Lake Erie, British troops and First Nations tribes joined forces

against the American military in an aggressive battle to fight the Americans desire to expand into Upper and Lower Canada. South West Ontario was home to some of the most important stories during the War of 1812 and we will host some of the most exciting commemorations in the coming years. Fort Malden National Historic Site of Canada 100 Laird Ave., Amherstburg, ON 519-736-5416 www.pc.gc.ca/malden Fort Malden stood guard during the War of 1812, a time when the threat of American invasion was very real. The Americans took over this fort for almost two years after the British abandoned it following their defeat at the Battle of Lake Erie. Windsors Community Museum 254 Pitt St. West, Windsor, ON 519-253-1812 www.windsormuseum.ca Located in the historic Francois Baby house, c. 1812, the museum features exhibitions on the history of the Windsor area. Children can enjoy a Hands-On-History room with activities, crafts and oldfashioned games.
