PROJECT INTRODUCTION
This project is related to the roles and responsibilities of merchandiser of company. Roles and responsibilities play a vital role in every industry. Merchandiser is one who takes care of production; its his duty to make the delivery on time. Merchandising calendar is the calendar which includes the whole information from the starting date to end date of production. The roles and responsibilities of merchandiser is like buying the raw material, making the garment, finishing the garment, accessory arrangement, final costing of the garment, finally dispatches on the given time period by the buyer. The industry which I is chose for my training is Nahar Spinning Mills Ltd (Monte Carlo). Importance To study about the role and responsibilities of merchandiser in industry. To study the system for product development. To gain the knowledge about the activities, operation time taken by each activity so that we can develop merchandising calendar

About NAHAR Group of Companies

From 1949 when small hosiery factory was incorporated into a public limited company, to the present day, constant upward growth has symbolized the charter of a company called oswal woollen mills limited. Oswal woollen mills,established in 1949 surges ahead to establish it self as a reputed industrial conglomerate with a wide ranging portfolio from wool garments etc. From starting out with 800 spindles to 25000 spindles today, from simple hosiery items to high value added items like designer knitwear (monte carlo & canturbury).all these are no mean achievements, and what made them possible in so short a time is nothing but a miracle that combined brilliant market insight with diversification. As the company progressively increased spindlage to 2000 in the year 1960, it had already established a market for itself in the areas of hosiery knitwear & textile fabrics like blankets and shawls etc. Very soon, it became the first indian exporter of woolen garments to russia and shortly after in 1972, the company set up its owm wool combing unit the first of several backward integration measures. Soon began the in house processing for the woollen division. With increasing capacity & demand for its products, oswal woollen mills limited soon became a name to reckon with, both in the domestic & international markets. Research & development also received focused attention & today the company boasts of north indias most sophisticated laboratory, combing,spinning,knitting,fabric,hosiery

approved by the international wool secretariat (is) & is even authorized to act as a quality checking center for other manufacturers. For the domestic market the company launched Monte carlo, the first truly international range of designer knitwear followed by another prestigious brand Canterbury. Later on an ultra modern lambs wool & angora spinning plant has been set up, of which more than 50% manufacturer is for captive consumption. The balance meets the requirements of other hosiery knitwear exporters in india. This in turn means immense saving in foreign exchange for India. Further a modernization cum balancing program has been introduced to upgrade its capacity for manufacturing garments & fabrics for various government & defense departments. The group has spinning capacity of 0.55 millions cotton spindles 25000 worsted spindles with turn over of $550 million inclusive of export turnover of $175 million. The production facility have been awarded iso 9001:2000/iso14002 certification & okotex certification. The markets of Nahar group are cries crossed allover the globe. The objective is meeting the buyers expectations with consistant quality backed by r& d divisions equipped with latest equipment, cream of highly qualified technocrats and adhering to timely schedules. Merchandising department is the star of the department among all the working departments in the Export concern because merchandising is the only department having maximum control over the departments and total responsible for profit and loss of the company. Merchandising denotes all the planned activities to execute and dispatch the merchandise on time, taking into consideration of the 4Rs to replenish the customer. Right quantity: to dispatch right quantity of product what buyer ordered. Right quality: it should be with right quality as acceptable by both the parties. Right cost: everybody wants more from what they are paid. Right time: no one wants to wait idle even in a restaurant,. Keeping delivery schedule is mandatory.

indirect expenses. Direct expenses: those expenses which are capable of being allocated

directly to a particular product are called direct expenses. Some of such expenses are as transport, labor cost, etc. Indirect expenses: those expenses which are not capable of being

allocated directly to a particular product are called direct expenses. Some of such expenses are electricity cost, diesel cost etc. 5. Value loss: In every firm, there is a certain amount of mark up percentage (3%-

5%) merchandisers keep in the costing in case of any loss or wastage in every step, from material to the CMT. 6. Net profit: The percentage of the profit margin varies from company to company

and is applicable on the overall (standing) cost of the garment. Monte Carlo has a standard profit margin of 15% on its garments.
