POLSCI V28 Austria, Luna, Yupangco, Mercado, Cinco June 26, 2012 Activity 1.2.1 1.

Where are you situated in the Political Compass? Jay: Libertarian/Economic Leftist (lower left quadrant) Ricci: My result says that Im Economic Left/Right: -2.38 and Social Libertarian/Authoritarian:0.00 (mid left) Louie: Authoritarian/Economic Leftist (upper right quadrant) Mikey: Economic Left/Right: -1.75 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 1.03 (upper left) Sistine: Libertarian Left, close to the line of Collectivism. (Lower Left) 2. What does your position on the political compass tell you about your views on politics, economy and society? What questions should you ask in order to find out? Jay: I think my results go in line with my view. I know that politics is something used to lead, and that I believe the people should still be liberal, but at the same time, strict with certain aspects of the country, hence my mixed answers. Ricci: I think my results came out that way because I dont agree with all the laws that the Philippines has. Others are not necessary and some are just plain wrong. Our countries economy declined because our government officials think mostly only of themselves. They want to be part of the government not only because they have clean intentions for the country. Its because they want to have power and get more money from the people. I believe the questions to be asked in order to find out are what are my positive and negative views about politics in our country and what I think people should do to make our economy better. Louie: - It says that I am leaning towards the authoritarian side - It also says that I prefer a non-free market economy Mikey: I am an Authoritarian Collectivist. The state is more important than the individual. Authoritarian collectivism grants power and authority to one person. They do not care much about the welfare of one if it benefits the rest, and will sometimes use excessive power in making decisions. This doesnt allow much freedom for the people, but it is an effective ideology if under the right ruler. Sistine: I have an unconventional way of thinking, just as I expected. I am more of pro-choice. 3. Are the test results reflective of your views about politics and society? Why? Why Not? Jay: Yes they pretty much do. Ive always viewed politics and society to be liberal, yet still be rational. Ricci: Yes. Because when I read through my result I saw that I had similarities with the people I have the same results with. We had the same views so I believe that my results were accurate. Louie: Yes, because I am plotted somewhere near the center which would mean that I am a "fence sitter" It is not 100% accurate but I believe it is close to what I really am Mikey: The result is true, which shows that I believe in the majority. I believe that a government should focus more on the development of the whole country rather than the slow development of an individual.

Sistine: Not really. I have yet to learn a lot on these topics for my mind is fresh in the game of politics. 4. How similar or different are your ideological positions in your group? The group is common in terms of being a on the left side on an economic scale. The difference is if you are an Authoritarian or a Liberitarian. The group is currently equal in terms of this scale, with one being in the middle. 5. Are there other means to determine your ideological positions? What are these? Where can you find them? If you look around the Internet, we have certain personality quizzes about your political standing. They may not be completely accurate but they could give you an idea on where you stand. Listening also to todays politicians will help you determine your standpoint. If you agree with certain politicians, then most likely you will share the same standpoint.
