Microsoft Official Courses: Now Available Digitally

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. What is dMOC? Digital MOC is simply a PDF version of OMLP Microsoft Official Courses (MOC). It is a new format for delivering the same MOC courses. For more information on MOC specifically, please see the MOC product information section at the end of this FAQ. Q2. What else is different about dMOC as compared to traditional MOC? Every dMOC course includes the Lab Answer Keys (LAKs) as part of the main course file. Also, a new separate lab manual file is included which contains just the lab instructions and LAKs for easy access. Digital MOC allows Microsoft to present the same course materials in digital format for your convenience. Q3. What about the student CD which comes with MOC courses? Every dMOC purchase comes with an image file of the same CD included with the corresponding traditional MOC. This image file can be accessed or burned to a CD easily. Instructions are provided in the readme file that comes with each dMOC purchase. Q4. Are there any other differences between dMOC and traditional MOC? A small number of MOC courses come with additional not-for-resale (NFR) software. At this time, dMOC will not include this NFR software. Q5. How many courses are available in this new format and in which languages? Digital MOC is available for 91 of the most popular MOC titles. Digital MOC is currently available in English only. Q6. Where is dMOC available? Why is it only available in select countries? Digital MOC is available in North America, the European Union, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Croatia, South Africa, and Turkey. Digital MOC will be rolled out in other countries as Microsoft determines demand, support needs, and other requirements necessary for launch in those countries. Q7. What does it cost to purchase a license for dMOC and how do I purchase it? Digital MOC is available for purchase/download via the Courseware Library and is priced at 10% less than the traditional MOC price. Q8. Can I preview dMOC? Digital MOC is not available for preview. If you would like to see the content of a dMOC file, have your Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) review it via the MCT Download Center or refer to the print version of the same course (the content is the same). Q9. What are the benefits of using dMOC? Digital MOC supports last minute orders, does not require shipping and handling fees to be incurred, eliminates the need to keep inventory on hand, enables easier distance learning options, includes full 2|Page

text search and enhanced bookmarking, allows for new separate lab manuals for easy access, reduces waste and paper needs, allows for digital commenting/annotations, and in the future will facilitate new courses to be made available digitally earlier than printed courses. Q10. How does this affect my students? Student feedback collected by Microsoft (between 2008 and 2010) shows that 3 out of 4 students want training materials digitally. And nearly 40 percent of students would choose digital materials instead of printed materials. Digital MOC enables the same instructor-led training classroom experience expected. Q11. How does this affect my trainers? Market research shows that the majority of MCTs are interested in using digital materials in the classroom. Also, the structure of dMOC materials provided (i.e., LAKs in every course and a new separate lab manual) is partly as a result of feedback from MCTs. Q12. How do MCTs access dMOC? Prep materials for dMOC are located in the same location as prep materials for traditional printed MOC. MCTs should refer to the MCT Download Center for any preparation needs. Q13. What about piracy? Every dMOC unit purchased will include a dynamic watermark placed at the bottom of each page. The CPLS name will also appear on each page. Classroom use of dMOC requires that every student have his/her own unique copy with his/her name on that copy. Microsoft will be monitoring purchase/download/access behavior and will contact any CPLSs directly if inappropriate usage is detected. Inappropriate usage will result in denied access to dMOC and possible termination from the CPLS program. Q14. What is the return policy? Digital MOC may not be returned for refund or exchange. Exceptions can be requested in writing for unusual circumstances but are not guaranteed to be granted. A formal return policy outlining policies and procedures will come at a later time. Q15. What are the specific titles being released digitally? Please download the digital MOC Title List Excel file (located on the same webpage as this FAQ) for the list or click here (login required) to see MOCT titles currently available digitally for purchase and immediate use. Q16. When can I get a digital version of a MOC title that is not listed here? Please contact mscwinfo@microsoft.com to express your interest. More courses are expected to be made available in digital format in the future. Q17. How will dMOC be supported? Please contact your regional support center as you would normally for any MOC title. If your support request is related to the Courseware Library (purchase/fulfillment/access), please visit the Courseware Library contact page (located at the bottom of the Courseware Library homepage).

Q18. What if there are quality issues with my dMOC? Digital MOC and MOC are the same content; the fastest way for feedback to be received on course quality is to have your MCT complete an MTM instructor survey located here: http://www.metricsthatmatter.com/mctsurvey/coursesurvey Q19. What if I have more questions? If your question is not answered here, you are welcome to email the Microsoft courseware team directly at mscwinfo@microsoft.com. Last Updated September 2010
