Tutorial Lesson 1 Part Simplified Reps

Preface
Part simplified reps can be used to increase the efficiency of working with your parts by improving regeneration, retrieval and repaint times. Features can be eliminated from the rep to show less detail of a part or create different view states to enhance model clarity.

Terms You Need To Know

Graphics Rep - Predefined representation, which displays the part in wire frame form.

Geometry Rep - Predefined representation that displays the part in the geometric form.

Master Rep - Representation that displays the part in the default form

Default Rule - Determines how the system should classify features that are added to the part.

Master - Includes (displays) the feature in the rep.

Exclude - Does not include the feature in the rep.

Default - Returns the feature to the default rule for the rep.

Tutorial Activity
** To begin, we will open an existing part called core. **

FILE menu: #File, #Open, Name:<core.prt>,#Open

** Turn off all datum planes, axes and coordinate systems by using the side menu bar or in the environmental settings. Datums can be turned off either by selecting the datum icons on the menu display or going into the Environment from the Utilities menu. The display should be something similar to the following image. **

VIEW menu: #View Manager...

SIMP REP tab: #New, name:[plain_core], <Enter> SIMP REP tab: #Edit, #Redefine EDIT METHOD Menu: #Features FEAT INC/EXC menu: #Exclude, select the 4 large cuts, large center hole, and the two slots, #Done EDIT METHOD menu: #Done Return
** The part should appear similar to the following image. **

** Set the display to the Master Rep. **

VIEW MANAGER Menu: Right click Master Rep, #Set Active, #Close
** This should bring you back to the original display of the part. **

** We will now create a second simplified rep that shows a cutaway of the motor core. **

** Make sure to turn on the datum planes so that they are showing. **

SKETCHER MODE: Sketch a horizontal line through the center of the core with the endpoints aligned to the outside edge (see following image).
