To the staff of the Rural Health Unit, most especially to Mrs. Marlene Basio for accommodating the researchers in gathering the list of the teenage mothers of Tubigon. To the midwives and Barangay Health Workers in the town of Tubigon, for their willingness to help the researchers by giving names of the probable respondents in their barangay. To the respondents, who spent their precious time with the researchers in answering the self-made questionnaires with the best and honest answer they can give. To Mrs. Mary Schenley Ann T. Mascarinas for and Ms. Pamela M. Tacandong accompanying the researchers in going to the respondents residences. To the parents, families and friends of the researchers, for their unending support that led to the success of this study. The Researchers

ABSTRACT This study aimed to identify the level of awareness among the teenage mothers of Tubigon, Bohol in rendering care to their newborn. Specifically, this study determined the demographic characteristics of the respondents in terms of age, civil status, educational attainment and employment status. Furthermore, this study evaluated whether the teenage mothers were well equipped with the knowledge to give efficient care to their newborn. This study utilized the descriptive method and used the questionnaire as the instrument for gathering data. The questionnaire contained personal information of the respondents and ways or techniques on how to care for their newborn with regards to the different aspects of attending to the babys needs. The respondents checked the box that corresponded to their answers, whether they Strongly Agree; Agree; if they are Undecided; Disagree; or Strongly Disagree on the stated method of providing newborn care. The 30 teenage mothers from Tubigon, Bohol served as respondents and accomplished the questionnaire. The age range of the respondents was 16 to 19 years old. The findings showed that most of the teenage mothers were 18 years old, comprising 33.23% of the total number of the respondents. Majority of the respondents were singe, only 6 were married to their partners. Only 1 respondent graduated from

College, while 33.33% or 10 respondents reached the High School Level. With regards to their Educational Attainment, only 6 respondents were employed. In the light of the findings, it is concluded that the teenage mothers were

very aware of the techniques of newborn care, with most of the respondents answering that they Strongly Agree on the technique specified. This conclusion is supported with the respondents rating themselves mostly as very good out of the six techniques in rendering newborn care. Through the findings and conclusions made in this study, it is recommended that the proposed Program on Increasing the Level of Awareness of the Teenage Mothers in Rendering Newborn Care be implemented to enhance their parenting skills and to make them better mothers. The researchers strongly consider that this study be looked into the officials of the Local Government Unit of Tubigon, Bohol, to the teenage mothers and their parents, the teenage mothers and the whole community. The researchers hope that this study will serve as a reference material to those studying the efficiency of newborn techniques utilized by the teenage mothers.
