For Immediate Release

The Cesar E. Chavez Legacy and Educational Foundation, the Cesar Chavez Student Movement, the Brown Berets of San Antonio, among other civil rights and immigrant rights organizations requests your presence on Wednesday July 4th, 2012 as students, leaders in the community including Congressman Lloyd Doggett and State Rep. Joaquin Castro, community organizations, and immigrant families march in the 2nd Annual July 4th Candlelight March for Immigrant Rights in San Antonio, TX. The recent news of President Obama's Executive Order protecting Dream Act eligible students from deportation has added momentum to the Immigrant Rights Movement. It is up to the community to continue to advocate for a permanent solution from Congress so that our families no longer have to live in fear in the United States. We are patriots on the march for our immigrant families, we want Comprehensive Immigration Reform and the Dream Act Now! In addition, the recent Supreme Court decision to uphold the "Paper Please" provision of Arizona's SB1070 is of concern for our community and state. Certain Texas elected officials have once again stated that a law similar to Arizona's that allows local and state law enforcement to verify the status of anyone whom they suspect is undocumented in the state should be enacted. The Cesar E. Chavez Legacy and Educational Foundation, the Brown Berets of San Antonio, among numerous other civil rights and community organizations have taken a stand against similar policies and we will not tolerate any civil rights violations in the form of racial profiling against anyone in our community. We are taking a strong position against these measures as we first hand are aware of the detrimental effects flawed immigration enforcement policy have in our community with previous instances of racial profiling in Balcones Heights and north Bexar County.

The July 4th Candlelight Procession is just the start of many marches and public demonstrations to come, as we organize with VIVA EL PUEBLO LATINO for a national Immigrant Rights Rally at the Lincoln Memorial on September 15, 2012 to urge Congress to pass a permanent solution to immigration.
