Julian Banzon

Filipino chemist, Julian Banzon researched methods of producing alternative fuels. He experimented with the production of ethyl esters fuels from sugarcane and coconut, and invented a means of extracting residual coconut oil by a chemical process rather than a physical process.

Dr. Lourdes Cruz

Doctor Lourdes Cruz has made scientific contributions to the biochemistry field of conotoxins, in particular the toxins of the venom of the marine snail Conus geographus. Lourdes Cruz documented the biochemical characterization of the homologous highly toxic monomeric peptides with internal disulfide bonds including: Conotoxin GI, Conotoxin GIA and Conotoxin GII. Lourdes Cruz has helped develop conotoxins for the purpose biochemical probes for examining the activities of the human brain.

Anacleto Del Rosario

Filipino chemist, Anacleto Del Rosario won the first prize at the World Fair in Paris in 1881 for his formula for producing a pure kind of alcohol from tuba of a nipa palm. His research also led to the extraction of castor oil from a native plant called palma christi.

Amando Kapauan

Amando Kapauan was a Filipino chemist who specialized in environmental chemistry. He is best known for his research in the 70s on the effect of heavy metals analysis on the environment, in particular mercuryin waters, fish and soil of the Philippines. Later in his career, Amando Kapauan began inventing newchemical instrumentation. Kapauan redesigned instruments with the help of his best students who would write the software to work with desktop computers just as they were starting to become popular.

Felix Maramba

Felix Maramba is a Filipino chemist who is famous for building a coconut oilfuelled power generator. He also is the developer of one of the world's most profitable biogas systems.

Francisco Quisumbing

Filipino chemist, Francisco Quisumbing invented Quink ink, which is used in Parker Pens. Quink ink is named after Francisco Quisumbing and is also an amalgam of 'quick and ink'. It is a quick drying ink with a cleaning property that prevents the ink from clogging the pen.

Robert Boyle- (1627-1691), English physicist and chemist. Experimented in

pneumatics (the study of mechanical properties of air and other gases). Through research he rejected the accepted definition of matter and Proposed Boyle's Law (1662)

John Dalton (1766-1844), English chemist and physicist,(1793), developed

atomic theory. His theory (1805) accounts for the law of conservation of mass, law of definite proportions, and law of multiple proportions, he also reduced the first table of atomic weights

Amedeo Avogadro (1776-1856) stated that equal volumes of gases, at the

same temperature and pressure, had the same amount of molecules, Avogadros number is 6.022e23, meaning that exactly 12 grams of carbon 12 has exactly 6.022e23 carbon atoms

Robert Wilhelm Bunsen (1811-1899), German chemist, helped develop the

spectroscope, introduced the Bunsen burner that was actually developed by his laboratory assistant, Peter Desaga, discovered elements Cesium and Rubidium

Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev (1834-1907), Russian chemist, Developed the

periodic table by placing the elements in order of increasing atomic weight (1869), Predicted the existence and properties of elements that would fill the gaps left in his chart (1871), These elements were discovered between 1875 and 1885

Joseph John Thomson(1856-1940) English physicist, Researched atomic

structure, Discovered that atoms contained particles which he called "electrons" by testing the ratio of cathode ray particles to their mass and found out that they were always equal. he Received Nobel Prize for physics (1907) and developed the mass spectrograph with Francis William Ason (1919)

Jabir bin Hayyan (721-815), Persia (some say Arab others say Persian race)
was a prominent polymath and considered the father of modern chemistry. He invented of over twenty types of now-basic chemical laboratory equipment, such as the alembic and retort. He discovered sulfuric acid, and by distilling it together with various salts, Jabir discovered hydrochloric acid (from salt) and nitric acid (from saltpeter).
