Jim Crow Laws legalized segregation between blacks and whites. There was segregation everywhere, Schools, restaurants, hospitals, and public parks. Blacks did many things to try and end segregation; they used legal suits, mass sit-ins and boycotts. Since southern whites where so violent, federal troops were needed to protect the blacks.
