Video/TV production and distribution of the multimedia content faces one key problem which is the organization of high-speed and cost-effective data access. Overall performance of movie editors, color correctors and product designers directly depends on the productivity of a data storage that provides data collaboration. The main TV show production challenges are the tight schedule of program release and very short time between shooting and airing the program, when all the editing job must be done. There is no place for any bottleneck in entire chain of tolls involved in the process.

Solution

Another speciality of video production is the simultaneous team work (several stations Apple MacPro, Windows) with shared data. The comparative analysis of hardware, software and carried out tests; allows declaring that the main problem of TV channels production studios is the lack of adequate multithreaded data processing rate. Existing SAN infrastructure was successfully replaced with a powerful AVRORA based FC SAN network with a set of disk arrays varying from 24TB to 108TB and a possibility of extending the storage with additional JBODs. Thus, high performance in RAID6 had been achieved as well as multithreaded operations with HD content (2K and 4K streams) support and guaranteed stable performance without any degradation in case of up to 2 HDDs failure.
