Description

As moms and business owners, balancing time and energy between our different kinds of babies can feel overwhelming on its own, but what happens for those of us who have fur babies too? Our pets are an important part of our lives, and having them around during stressful times like these is an absolute blessing. However, we also have to ensure we’re giving them the attention and training they need, and when we already have a lot going on, that can feel like a chore.  How can we stop looking at training from a purely logistical perspective and turn it into something fun? Is it possible to make training feel like we’re playing with our pets?  In this episode, Founder of Miss Behavior, Laura Gendron shares how to change the way we look at pet training.  Three Things You’ll Learn in This Episode How to keep training our pets when we have a lot going on: By the time we’ve finished everything we need to do in a day, training often feels like too much, but by incorporating that training into our existing routines, we can change that. Start with things like teaching a dog to down-stay every time we open the fridge or getting them to sit by themselves when we go into another room. How to proactively replace our dogs’ bad behavior: To get our dogs to stop doing one thing, we have to replace that action with something else. Teach them a skill that becomes more rewarding for them than the initial behavior, like going into a down-stay instead of barking excessively. What to do when we’re dealing with emotional dogs: Some dogs are more reactive and emotional than others, and that can become a challenge. However, we have to remember that we’re not the only ones in the situation, and small replacements of bad behavior go a long way.   Guest Bio-  Laura Gendron is a mom of two and the owner and founder of Miss Behavior, serving as a behavior consultant, coach, and certified professional dog trainer for family dogs and their people.
