INDIAN FOREST ACT, 1927

INDIAN FOREST ACT, 1878 first and most famous act and both the acts were implemented under British. act reserve the areas having forest cover, or significant wildlife. regulates movement & transit of forest produce also define what is forest offence and area to be a Reserved Forest, a Protected Forest or a Village forest.

State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, empower a Forest- officer. to accept from any person against whom a reasonable suspicion exists that he has committed any forestoffence, a sum of money by way of compensation for the offence. when any property has been seized as liable to confiscation, to release the same on payment of the value thereof as estimated by such officer.

On the payment of such sum of money, or such value, as the case may be, to such officer, the suspected person, if in custody, shall be discharged, the property, if any, seized shall be released, and no further proceedings shall be taken against such person or property. Forest- officer shall not be empowered under this section unless he is a Forest- officer of a rank not inferior to that of a Ranger and is in receipt of a monthly salary amounting to at least one hundred rupees, and the sum of money accepted as compensation under clause (a) of sub- section (1)

sub-section (3) of section 68 of the Indian Forest Act, 1927,

(a) the words and is in receipt of a monthly salary amounting to at least one hundred rupees shall be omitted; (b) for the words fifty rupees, the words ten thousand rupees shall be substituted;

CONCLUSION

This act was basically implemented to to stop instances of unnecessary harassment and prosecution of forest dwellers and tribal for minor offences. the above, the Union ministry of Environment and Forests, asked state governments to declare bamboo as a minor forest produce to address livelihood issues of forest dwellers and tribal. It should be noted that bamboo is a traditional source of subsistence for tribal. will have a check on illegal felling of trees.
