GPS parents perceive that the District is doing a good job of insuring the physical needs of the children are being met. Parents feel their children feel safe at school, and are confident of the schools ability to respond to an emergency situation.
Perceptions among community members who do not have children in the District are mixed, compared to 2008. Though grades from current parents remained strong, the percentage of non-parents providing high grades decreased significantly from 2008. Parents preference for information to be communicated via email and the GSD website has increased dramatically, for both GPS news and student information. Strong perceptions that strong academic schools increase property values set a good foundation for support for the proposed override this fall. The additional information about the impact if the override does not pass is more likely to increase support for the override than have a negative impact on support. Further, lack of financial support was considered the biggest challenge among GPS parents for the first time this year, reflecting general sentiment of concern for funding of the District.
