The second green is nestled in a tree lined hollow at the bottom of a small hill. A tight approach again favours the straighter drivers. The two tier green provides a difficult test if you land on the wrong tier.

The elevated green on the fifth demands an extra club, especially into a breeze. The fast green can see you back on the approach in summer with a downhill putt.

Try cutting the corner at this dog-leg and you can end up in serious trouble. The elevated green is often over-shot but the banking is forgiving and the ball will roll back onto the playing surface with luck.

The railway line runs alongside this hole so be careful not to give the Edinburgh bound train drivers a fright! The pin position on this lengthy green can make a two club difference from one day to the next.

The downhill 8th provides eagle and birdie opportunities for the long hitters. But beware of the pond if you push your drive . The green is protected by gorse at the back - so don't be long unless you fancy trying to retrieve your ball from the spiky stuff!

This long par 5 with it's blind approach can cause havoc with your score if you're not accurate and careful. The green sits in a basin and can be approached by a good roll off the hill to the left side.

Easily the most difficult par 3 on the course with an uphill approach and protective bunkers. Walk away with a birdie or a par here and you'll be smiling for the rest of the day.

With a burn on the left and a ditch running across the fairway and back to the right it pays dividends to drive straight here. The tiered green provides an interesting finale to the hole.

The tight 15th is unforgiving, with gorse to the right and a burn to the left there is no room for error on this hole. The long flat green provides some respite from the approach, but beware the burn at the back of the green

All sorts of trouble awaits the errant shot at this par 3. Bunkers guard the approach beyond the burn, out of bounds to the left and dense trees behind call for your first shot to land on the green - if only!

A really challenging par 4 awaits at this hole. Out of bounds down the left can be costly as can the bunkers defending the green. This hole demands two very long accurate shots to reach the green in regulation. A 4 or better here is an excellent result.

Last but by no means least the 18th provides a potential sting in the tail. Out of bounds on the left, a drainage ditch on the right and short of the green with a challenging uphill approach make this hole a stiff test of golf whether off the medal tees or not.
