Mind is. Not a physical organ Like a software for our hardware(brain) Perceives, thinks, recognises, experiences and reacts to the environment Types: Conscious Mind-5 to 10 % Subconscious Mind(Unconscious Mind)- 90 to 95%

Subconscious Mind
Subconscious Mind is Where our thoughts are filtered Our belief system It becomes whatever we think(only person accepts everything whatever you say)

-Drives us to act as we do Goals Desires purposes agendas Values Motives

- Tells us how we are doing Happy Sad Depressed Anxious Stressed Calm Worried Excited

Thinking
-Makes senses of world Judging Perceiving Analyzing Clarifying Determining Comparing Synthesizing

Thinking Process
How our mind think? does not think about the world their representation of world what you already know and understand comes first how well it remembers it Rules of thumb
- Matching current situation to one we faced in past and use them to come up with the best way to handle current situation.

Is our thinking always right?


Answer No Why? - when we experience something which we did not in past - if Judgement under uncertainity fails

What you do when you found that you are being watched by someone? tendency of people to act or appear differently when they know that they are being observed. Why? - To make themselves look better - A serious problem in research

Pareidolia
- random images or sounds are perceived as significant - are they real?

- NO. Just viewers perception e.g. clouds in shapes of dinosaurs, etc.,

Self-fulfilling Prophecy
Prediction which causes itself to become one. Effective tool in psychics Engaging in behaviors that obtain results that confirm existing attitudes
e.g. relationship failure by thinking it is going to fail, thinking Ill do poorly in exam.

Halo Effect
- individuals positive or negative trait spill over to other areas of their personality in others perceptions of them - employee performance appraisals

Herd Mentality
Tendency to adopt the opinions and follow the behaviors of the majority. Why? To feel safer and avoid conflicts Mob Mentality e.g. fastrack watch popular among youths.

Reactance
Urge to do the opposite of what someone wants you to do They dont need to do, but they do, because they cannot do it makes them want to do it. reverse psychology- to influence people using reactance

Escalation of Commitment
To continue to support previously unsuccessful endeavors. What logical mind will do?
change decision and try to reverse it.

But, some will stick with their decision and further invest in that Why?
Due to money they have sunk for that.

Placebo Effect
Ineffectual substances that is BELIEVED to be have healing properties produces the desired effect. Sugar pills given for real ailment Scientific mystery Cause Expectancy Effect
Individuals expect the pill to cure their ailments, so they feel cured.

If the outcome is favorable, it is PLACEBO, else NOCEBO.
