Road Network- 4.2 million Kilometer.


Upgradation of around 3,700 km of national highways.

National Highway Networks:

National Highways- 70,934 km State highways- 1,54,522 km Major District & other district roads- 25,77,396 km Rural roads- 14,33,577 km

FDI in construction from April 2000- May 2012 was US$ 11,613 million.

According to the newer policy updates 100 per cent FDI is allowed.

Estimated investment for next five years- US$ 7590 billion

The Government has also started the Bharat Nirman Programme. Various projects:
Kiratpur to Nerchowk UP/Haryana border Yamunagar Saha Barwala Panchkula Vijaywada Gundugolanu Vijayawada-Machlipatnam

Total network- 64,000 km 22 million passenger and 2.5 million ton freight. Annual revenue- 1,06,000 crore (as on March 31, 2012) Revenue from:
FreightPassangerRs 16,507.66 crore Rs 7,462.20 crore

Overview of the current status of metro rail in India:

Delhi's Indira Gandhi International ranked 2nd best airport in the world. India's domestic aviation market has tripled in the past five years.

India is the 9th largest aviation market in the world.

The government's open sky policy has attracted many overseas players to enter the market. Aircraft maintenance, repair sector is also on a growth path in the country. Aviation sector handles 2.5 billion passengers across the world in a year; moves 45 million tonnes of cargo.

International flights have increased to 706 flights per week. The Vision 2020 statement announced by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, envisages creating infrastructure to handle 280 million passengers by 2020. The AAI has taken up the development of 35 non metro airports.

India has a total of 187 minor ports and 13 major ports spread across the nine maritime states. Traffic at major ports is expected to grow at a Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of about 8 per cent.

The traffic handled has increased by 96.37 MT i.e. from 463.78 MT to 560.15 MT.

The traffic at non-major ports is expected to grow at a growth rate of 16 per cent. In the year 2012-13, 25 Projects have been identified.

The Government believes that the private sector will handle 50 per cent of the nation's cargo by 2015.

Five inland waterways have been declared as National Waterways:


Allahabad-Haldia stretch of the Ganga-BhagirathiHooghly river Sadiya-Dhubri stretch of the Brahmaputra river Kollam-Kottapuram stretch of West Coast Canal and Champakara and Udyogmandal canals Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry West Bengal and Orissa.

According to a Ministry of Shipping's press communication a new programme - Perspective 2020 :


To create a port capacity of around 3,200 MT to handle the expected traffic of about 2,500 MT by 2020. To bring ports at par with the best international ports in terms of performance and capacity

India is the 2nd largest telecom services market in the world. India has903.73 million- subscribers.
