Muslims believe that there is only One God. The Arabic word for God is Allah. According to Muslims, God sent a number of prophets to mankind to teach them how to live according to His law. They believe that the final Prophet was Muhammad.

Muslims believe that Islam has always existed, but for practical purposes, date their religion from the time of the migration of Muhammad. Muslims base their laws on their holy book the Qur'an, and the Sunnah.

Quran means recitation because it was first heard in sermons and public readings It is filled with God's direct speech, revealed through the use of the first person plural ("we"). The original, divine version of the earthly book is considered coeternal with God, either in heaven or in the mind of God.

The Quran contains a record of the revelations recited by the prophet Muhammad over a period of approximately twenty-two years from 610 to 632. The Quran is approximately the same length as the Christian New Testament with 114 chapters, called surahs

Sunna is the second most important source of guidance for Muslims because it is custom of the Prophet, which is recorded in the hadith. The hadith contain sacred history, reports of the words and deeds of Muhammad and other early Muslims.

In Hadith, like in Christianity, Muhammad's companions compiled a record of all his teachings and actions after his death. They passed these on so that the study of the Prophet's life and work would influence the community.

Muslims believe the Sunnah is the practical example of Prophet Muhammad and that there are five basic Pillars of Islam. These pillars are the declaration of faith, praying five times a day, giving money to charity, fasting and a pilgrimage to Mecca (atleast once).

Mecca is a city in the Hejaz andand the capital of the Makkah province in Saudi Arabia. It is said to be the birthplace of Muhammad and the site of the composition of the Quran.

Najat (salvation) escape or deliverance from the fires of hell to the pleasures of paradise. Quran scripture of Islam Muhammad saw himself as the last in line of the prophets. His teaching in the Quran is that obedience and submission to Allah is the way to salvation because Allah is merciful.
