Surah Baqarah Ch

And who turns away from the religion of Ibrhim (i.e. Islmic Monotheism) except him who befools himself? Truly, We chose him in this world and verily, in the Hereafter he will be among the )031( .righteous

We chose him

Verily, Ibrhim was an Ummah (a leader having all the good righteous qualities), or a nation, obedient to Allh, Hanif (i.e. to worship none but Allh), and he was not one of those who were Al-Mushrikn (polytheists, idolaters, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allh, and those who joined partners with Allh). (120) (He was) thankful for His (Allh's) Favors. He (Allh) chose him (as an intimate friend) and guided him to a Straight Path (Islmic Monotheism, neither Judaism nor Christianity). (121) And We gave him good in this world, and in the Hereafter he shall be of the righteous. (Surah# 16 An Nahl Ayah# 120-122)

120 121 122

Verily, among mankind who have the best claim to Ibrhim are those who followed him, and this Prophet (Muhammad SAW) and those who have believed (Muslims). And Allh is the Wal (Protector and Helper) of the believers. Surah Al-e-Imran 3:68

2:130

Muhammad (SAW) was dealing with 3 types of people

1. Kuffar/Mushrik especially of Mecca

2. Yahud, especially of Medina

3. Christians

All 3 of them claimed allegiance to Ibrahim (AS). He was the central unifying theme Ibrahim(AS) was an extremely intelligent, sharp, wise person He was Hanif (completely focused on Tauheed) & among the Righteous He was especially chosen by Allah in this world & hereafter.

Only foolish can turn away from Ibrahim(AS)s legacy

When his Lord said to him, "Submit (i.e. be a Muslim)!" He said, "I have submitted myself (as a Muslim) to the Lord of the 'Alamn (mankind, jinn and all that exists)." (131)

And whoever seeks a religion other than Islm, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers. (Surah Al-E-Imran 3:85)

2:131

Allah is reminding Bani-Israel that when He asked Ibrahim(AS) to submit to Him.

In other words, to become Muslim Ibrahim(AS)s replied

Note: Aslamtu is in past tense

So, in a way Allah is telling Bani Israel, that if they really want to be considered as part of Ibrahims Legacy (which they are so proud of) then they better become Muslim as well.

And this (submission to Allh, Islm) was enjoined by Ibrhim upon his sons and by Ya'qb, (saying), "O my sons! Allh has chosen for you the (true) religion, then die not except in the Faith of Islm (as )231( ".)Muslims - Islmic Monotheism

1. Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:28

And he made it [i.e. L ilha ill-allh (none has the right to be worshipped but Allh Alone)] a Word lasting among his offspring, that they may turn back (i.e. to repent to Allh or receive admonition).

2. Surah Surah Hud 11:71

But We gave her glad tidings of Ishq (Isaac), and after Ishq, of Ya'qb (Jacob). Surah Hud 11:71

Ibrahim advised his children, including Jacob, Isaac's son, who were present. It appears, and Allah knows best, that Isaac was endowed with Jacob, during the lifetime of Ibrahim and Sarah, for the good news includes both of them in Allah's statements above.

3. Surah Ankaboot 29:27

And We bestowed on him [Ibrhim], Ishq and Ya'qb, and we ordained among his offspring Prophet hood and the Book

4. Surah Al-Anbiya 21:72

And We bestowed upon him Ishq, and (a grandson) Ya'qb.

if Jacob(AS) was not alive then, there would be no use here in mentioning him specifically among Isaac(AS)'s children. Above ayah from Surah Al Anbiya also indicates that this occurred during Ibrahim(AS)'s lifetime.

Jacob (AS) built Bayt Al-Maqdis, as earlier books testified. The Two Sahihs recorded that Abu Dharr said,
"I said, `O Messenger of Allah! Which Masjid was built first? He said, (Al-Masjid Al-Haram (AlKa`bah).) I said, `Then?' He said, (Bayt Al- Maqdis.) I said, `How many years later?' He said, (Forty years. )'' Ibn Kathir: Fath Al Bari & Muslim

None of us come from so pure lineage as Yaqub (AS). Genetics are not enough!

Surah Najm 53:39

(39. And that man can have nothing but what he does.)

Verily, the best type of provision that one consumes is from what he himself has earned, and one's offspring are among what he has earned.
Ibn Kathir An Nasai 7:241 When a person dies, his deeds will cease except in three cases: from a righteous son who invokes Allah for him, or an ongoing charity after his death, or knowledge that people benefit from. These three things are, in reality, a result of one's own deeds, efforts and actions.
Muslim 3:1255/ Ibn Kathir An Nasai 7:241

We must perform righteous deeds during our lifetime and remain on the right path, so that Allah will endow us with the favor of dying upon it. Usually, one dies upon the path that he/she lived on and is resurrected according to what he/she died on. Allah, the Most Generous, helps those who seek to do good deeds to remain on the righteous path. If we spend our entire life simply worrying about our worldly needs, then even at the time of our death thats all we will be stressing about. But if we spend our entire life worrying about our & our childrens deen(Islam), then even at the time of our death we will remember that.

A scholar once said, and so appropriately, mashaAllah!... Duniya (World) should be to a Muslim, like the Ocean is to a Ship!

A Ship needs the Ocean to travel, to get by but it must NOT allow the water to get inside of it.
Similarly, a Muslim needs the Duniya to get by, but must NOT allow it to get inside of his/her Nafs

We need the (halal) worldly desires to keep us young at heart but our worldly desires must NOT consume us! .

Or were you witnesses when death approached Ya'qb (Jacob)? When he said unto his sons, "What will you worship after me?" They said, "We shall worship ,)your Ilh, the Ilh (God) of your fathers, Ibrhim, Ism'il, Ishq, One Ilh (God )331( ".)and to Him we submit (in Islm

This makes the 12 sons, Bani Israel

They dont mention religions, but the prophets.

Bani Israel are saying, We will worship the Lord of our fathers, Ibrahim, Ismail, Ishaq

And Bani Israel say,

So in a way, Allah is telling them that even the original Bani Israel claimed to be Muslim, now what are they waiting for?!!!

That was a nation who has passed away. They shall receive the reward of what they earned and you of what you earn. And you )431( will not be asked of what they used to do

Bani Israel took pride in their history but did NOT follow thro

Each one of us sows its own seeds

We all have to earn it!

One dies upon the path that he lived on & is resurrected according to what he died on. Allah, helps those who seek to do good deeds, to remain on the righteous path.

Islam is NOT a mere history lesson, its NOT just for entertainment, Islam requires action

2:134 "Each man shall reap the fruits of his own deeds, and no one shall bear the burden of another" Surah Al-Anaam (6:164).

This is why a Hadith proclaims, Whoever was slowed on account of his deeds will not get any faster on account of his family lineage.
Muslim 4:2074

And they say, "Be Jews or Christians, then you will be guided." Say (to them, O Muhammad Peace be upon him ), "Nay, (We follow) only the religion of Ibrhim, Hanifa [Islmic Monotheism, i.e. to worship none but Allh (Alone)], and he was not of Al-Mushrikn (those who worshipped others along with Allh " (135)

They obsessed about their nation, lineage and identity, so much that they became arrogant and refused to recognize Muhammad (SAW).

Both think they are the guided ones Allah(SWT) asks Muhammad (SAW) to tell them that we (Muslims) follow the religion of Ibrahim (AS), i.e. to worship one God & he was not from Mushrikin.

2. They also believe in all the prophets, some of whom have been mentioned in this Ayah
3. Some of the prophets may be superior in ranking than others, but it is essential for a Muslim to believe in all the prophets without making any distinction 4. Muslims believe that the Shariahs of all the prophets mentioned here were sent by Allah himself, but they have now been abrogated. So, Muslims follow the Shariah of Muhammad (SAW), for this alone is now valid 5. Muslims ultimately obey Allah alone and submit themselves totally to Him

(133)
