Why Should We Fear Allah?

Allah Commands in the Quran That He Be Feared


You who believe! Fear Allah and seek the means of drawing near to Him, and strive in His Way, so that hopefully you will be successful. (Al- Maida: 35)

People before us had also been asked to fear Allah The level of our fear will increase in proportion to the depth of our knowledge and reflection of Allah
The Messenger of Allah (saws) said: By Allah, of all people, I am the one with the most knowledge of Allah, and I fear Him the most. [Bukhari; Book: 2, Hadith: 19]

To prepare for death


Take your provisions; but in truth the best provision is piety (fear of Allah), and fear Me, O men of understanding! (Al- Baqara: 197) To protect ourselves from the temptations of Satan and the lower self

To increase hope and eagerness and Allahs Mercy They fear the Day of Judgment

Fearing Allah as Described in Quran and Hadith

You who believe! Fear Allah the way He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims.(Aal-e- Imran:102) Prophet Muhammad (saws) said: When the heart of a believer is filled with these two feelings of hope and fear, Almighty Allah fulfils his hope and saves him from what he fears. (Ibn Majah) Six qualities of Mutaqeen :
And be quick in the race for forgiveness from Your Lord and for Paradise as wide as the heavens and the earth, prepared for the mutaqeen, Those who spend [for Allah's cause] in prosperity and in adversity, who repress anger, and who pardon men. Verily, Allah loves the doers of good. And for those who, when they have committed some evil or wronged themselves, remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins and who can forgive sins except Allah and who do not persist in what [wrong] they have done, while they know. (Aal-e- Imran: 133-136)

Fearing Allah as Described in Quran and Hadith (Continued)

On the authority of Abu Dharr Jundub ibn Junada and Abu Abdul Rahmaan Muaadh ibn Jabal (ra) the Messenger of Allah (saws) said, Fear Allah wherever you are. And follow up a bad deed with a good deed and it will wipe it out. And behave towards the people with a good behaviour. (Tirmidhi) You can warn only the one who follows Quran and fears the Rehman in secret... (Al Yasin: 11) Their sides forsake their beds and they call on their Lord in fear and ardent hope. And they give of what We have provided for them. (As- Sajda: 16) Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud Allah's Messenger said, "If, through fear of Allah, tears--even to the extent of a fly's head-fall from any believer's eyes and drop on some part of his cheek, he will be kept away from Hell by Allah. (Tirmidhi #5359)

The Rewards For Those Who Fear Allah

High rank in the sight of Allah


The noblest among you in Allahs sight is the most righteous. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware. (Al-Hujurat: 13)

Forgiveness Ability to discriminate right from wrong Twice the Mercy and guidance from Allah Help and provisions from Allah
Whoever fears AllahHe will give him a way out and provision from unimagined source. (At-Talaq: 2)

Reward in both the worlds Acceptance of worship


Allah only accepts from the righteous (who fear Him). (Al-Maida: 27)

The Consequences Suffered by Those Who Do Not Fear Allah


Allahs anger Eternal life in Hell


When he is told to fear Allah, he is seized by pride which drives him to wrongdoing. Hell will be enough for him! What an evil resting-place! (Al- Baqara: 206)

Punishment in the present life


How many generations We have destroyed before them who had finer furnishings and a better outward show! ( Maryam: 74)

Envy and Aggression


Recite to them the true report of Adams two sons when they offered a sacrifice and it was accepted from one of them but not accepted from the other. (Al- Maida: 27-30)

Lives Full of Fears and Anxieties

The Reasons For Failing to Fear Allah


Lack of true appreciation of Allah Being fooled by their allotted time on Earth
But He is deferring them until a specified time. Then, when their time comes, Allah sees His servants! (Al- Fatir: 45)

Being fooled by things given by Allah


Do they imagine that, in the wealth and children We extend to them, We are hastening to them with good things? No indeed, but they have no awareness! (Al- Muminun: 54-56)

Thinking they are right, if not punished on Earth


And (they) say to themselves Why does Allah not punish us for what we say? Hell will be enough for them! They will roast in it. What an evil destination! (Al- Mujadala: 8)

The idea that Allah will forgive us anyway


An evil generation has succeeded them, inheriting the Book, taking the goods of this lower world, and saying, We will be forgiven (Al-Araf: 169)

Thinking that only the most rebellious are subject to punishment

Things that Bring About the Fear of Allah

Knowing Allahs names and attributes, pondering on them and understanding them Fearing shortcomings in one action and excessiveness in ones sins Visiting the sick and the graveyard Remembering death Seeing Allahs blessings and power in creation Pondering on ones last moment in this life Contemplating on the verses of the Quran Being with the righteous and those who remind one of Allah

Fear Allah, Not People


Allah alone is our creator and provider His is whatever is in the Heavens and on the Earth, and obedience to Him inevitably pervades the whole universe. Will you, then, fear any other than Allah . (An-Nahl :52) Do you fear them? Surely Allah has greater right that you should fear Him, if you are true believers . (At- Tawba: 13) Let not the fear of men prevent you from speaking the truth when you know it (Tirmizi MM1-375-76) Dont listen to Satan It was Satan who suggested to you the fear of his allies. Do not fear them; fear Me if you truly believe. (Aal-e- Imran: 175) To get Allahs blessings ... Do not fear them, but fear only Me so that I may complete My favor upon you; perhaps you will be guided to the right way. (Al- Baqara: 150)
