What is Technology ?
In recent times, technology has become an ever increasing presence in the workplace and it is one of the hot topics among the business world. More and more businesses, large and small, are trying to incorporate the latest technology into their operations. This notion is evidenced by the fact that the popular business publications now have technology sections, and information systems departments are becoming critical components of most organizations.

The appeal of the whole information technology is that it

is designed to make people and organizations more knowledgeable, efficient, and/or profitable.

What is organisation ?
Meaning : When two or more people are coming together in order to achieve goal or set of goals is known as organization. The factors affect the organizations as per the 1999 global Competitiveness.

1) Political factors. 2) Economical factors. 3) social factors. 4) Technological factor. 5) Environmental factors.

Technological environment.
Technology refers to the information ,equipment, techniques & processes required to transform inputs into outputs . Technology is considered as the basic factor in the process of development . The various changes in technology lead to increase in the productivity of labor ,capital &others factors of production . Technological progress is thus the mover of economic development .

ROLE OF TECHNOLOGY
Increasing the productivity of the workers .
Utilization of the resources . Higher level of output per worker .

Creation of the employment .

More profit for the organization. Cost minimization.

IMPACT of TECHNOLOGY ON ORGANIZATION :

While the formal structure or arrangements within an organization will likely be affected by the arrival of new technology, this does not have to be the case in all situations. A transformation can also occur through the business changing the way it operates.

It seems to be a common theme that information systems will change even more traditional supervisory relationships.
Computer networks allow people to communicate quickly, share ideas, and transfer information without regard to physical locations, or to a reasonable extent, even without regard to the temporal dimension.

Therefore, a supervisor will be able to monitor the activities of a larger number of subordinates without requiring them to report directly to him/her.
The tasks that employees perform within an organization are being drastically affected by the increased mechanization and application of technology as a part of the production process

TYPES OF TECHNOLOGY

There are two types of technology . 1) Labor intensive techniques : use more amount of labor &small amount of capital.
2) Capital intensive techniques :use more amount of capital & small amount of labor .

Technology and competitive advantage.

Thus, a key advantage of information systems is to be able to simplify organizational structures. Although they served a purpose at one time, the benefits of improved coordination and increased supervision discussed earlier replace the need for tall, hierarchical organizations.

In fact firms with well-developed management

information systems lend themselves to a move towards flat structures.

Customer Relations : Technology affects the way

companies communicate and establish relations with their clients. In a fast moving and business environment, it is vital for them to interact with clients regularly and quickly to gain their trust and to obtain customer loyalty.

With the use of Internet and online social networks, firms interact with consumers and answer all their queries about the product.
Establishing effective communication with customers not only creates rapport with them, but it also creates strong public image. It allows business enterprises to reduce and to cut carbon dioxide emissions.

Business Operations: With the use of technological

innovations, business owners and entrepreneur understand their cash flow better, how to manage their storage costs well and enables you to save time and money. Corporate Culture: Technology lets employees communicate and interact with other employees in other countries. It establishes clique and prevents social tensions from arising.

Security : Modern security equipment enables companies to protect their financial data, confidential business information and decisions.
Research Opportunities: It provides a venue to conduct studies to keep themselves ahead of competitors. It allows companies to virtually travel into unknown markets.

Business mobility: Technological innovations improved companies' sales, services, shorted lead time on receiving and delivering goods and services. Enables them to penetrate multiple markets at least costs.
Research capacity: It enables them to conduct studies on various companies to gain knowledge on the new trends in the market and way on avoiding them.

The scope of technology.

The scope of technology that an organization can adopt is vast, ranging from something seeming simple, such as buying a personal computer with a word processor, to investing in the latest state-of-theart computer-aided manufacturing machinery.
Implementation of technological systems can either act as a catalyst for change or be the means of achieving a desired change

Models of Innovation Types

Radical innovation : An innovation that is very new and different from existing products and processes. Incremental innovation : An innovation that makes a relatively minor change from (or adjustment to) existing products and processes

The Impact of Technology on Organizational Communication

Significance : Communication technology, like email and teleconferences, makes organizational communication easily accessible. Using these methods of electronic communication can help make distance a non-factor in organizational communication.
Benefits: Communication technology lets your manager better collect data around the workplace, allowing her to make more informed decisions, such as how much of a raise you deserve .

Criticisms: Electronic communication, like online forums, gives you a place to complain about work. Managers can obtain constructive criticism from your complaints and make changes in order to improve the workplace.
Warning: Increased accessibility of organizational communication can complicate the boundaries between your work life and home life. Be wary of how you use communication technology.

Considerations: The impact of electronic communication on organizational communication depends on how management implements the technology in the workplace. For example, email becomes beneficial when used to schedule a company meeting.

Sustainability of the Technological lead.

First mover advantage :

1) Reputation. 2) preempting a positioning. 3) unique access for a new product 4) favorable access to facilities 5) early profits.

First mover disadvantages :

1) demand uncertainty. 2) changes in buyer needs. 3) technological discontinuities. Thus the Technological leadership can be sustained only if the competitors cannot duplicate the technoloy, or the firm innovates as fast or faster than competitors.

Conclusion.
The technological advances achieved in the past few decades have brought about a revolution in the business world, affecting nearly all aspects of working life.
People can reach others throughout the world in a matter of seconds, with cost being increasingly irrelevant.

Employees no longer need to be physically with their

clients and co-workers; instead they can communicate effectively at home, at a distant office, across the world, and even in their car or on an airplane.

With technology's penetration into every business function executives have seen first-hand how it gives them access to well-organized, quality information they can use to make better decisions, and how it fundamentally supports the day-to-day running of their business.
Thus, technology is playing an important role in the development of organization.
