I shall go on forgiving you so long as you pray to Me and aspire for My forgiveness whatever may be your sins. O son of Adam! I do not care even if your sins should pile up to the sky and should you beg pardon of Me, I would forgive you. O son of Adam! If you come to Me with an earthful of sins and meet Me, not associating anything with Me in worship, I will certainly grant you as much pardon as will fill the earth.'''
[At-Tirmidhi]. Riyadh As Saaleheen 1878.

Thauban (RA) reported: Whenever the Messenger of Allah (SAW) finished his Salat (prayer), he would beg forgiveness 3 times [by saying, `Astaghfirullah'] and then he would say:

[Muslim]. Riyadh As Saaleheen 1876.

Commentary: This Du`a' was a Sunnah of the Prophet (SAW), and it is highly recommended to recite it after Salat.

Ibn `Umar (RA) said: The Prophet (SAW) said,

"O women folk! You should give charity and be diligent in seeking Allah's forgiveness because I have seen (i.e., on the Night of the Ascension to the highest heavens) that dwellers of the Hell are women. '' A woman amongst them said: "Why is it that the majority of the dwellers of Hell are women?'' The Prophet (SAW) replied, "You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. In spite of your lacking in wisdom and failing in religion, you are depriving the wisest of men of their intelligence.''
[Muslim]. Riyadh As Saaleheen 1879.

Arafat is a day of Forgiveness from sins, freedom from the Hell-Fire for the people who are present in the plain of Arafat. A'ishah (RA) narrated the Messenger of Allh (SAW) saying: There is no day on which Allh frees more people from the Fire than the day of Arafat. He comes close and expresses His pride to the angels saying, 'What do these people (the Hajis) want?' [Sahh Muslim] This Hdth mentions forgiveness for the pilgrims. In addition to this, fasting on the day of Arafat is a Sunnah and an expiation of sins for the residents.

2:160

The Messenger of Allh (SAW) used to fast on the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah, on the day of Ashrah, on three days of each month, and on the first two Mondays and Thursdays of each month. [(Sahh) by Shaikh al-Alban in Sahh Abi Dawd vol: 2, no: 462] It is reported in Sahh Muslim that when the Messenger of Allh (SAW) was asked about the fasting on the day of Arafat, he said:
It expiates the sins of the previous year and that of the following year. [ Sahh Muslim] This fasting is Mustahabb only for the non-pilgrims and not for the Hajis (the pilgrims)

Truly, the religion with Allh is Islm. (3:19)

Surah An-Nisa

2:161-162

Verily! Allh forgives not (the sin of) setting up partners (in worship) with Him, but He forgives whom He wills sins other than that, and whoever sets up partners in worship with Allh, has indeed strayed far away. (4:116)

Surah Al Baqarah

Who has made the earth a resting place for you, and the sky as a canopy, and sent down water (rain) from the sky and brought forth therewith fruits as a provision for you. Then do not set up rivals unto Allh (in worship) while you know (that He Alone has the right to be worshipped). (2:22)

2:161-162

They (Jews and Christians) took their priests and their monks to be their lords besides Allh and also Messiah, son of Maryam, while they were commanded (in Torah and Gospel) to worship none but One Ilh . L ilha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). Praise and glory is to Him, (far above is He) from having the partners they associate (with Him)." (9:31)

Benefits Derived From This Verse 1. That obedience to other than Allah, in contradiction to Allah's Commands constitutes Shirk. 2. It is forbidden to obey one of Allah's creatures, if in so doing, one is disobedient to the Creator. 3. Deeds will not be considered righteous unless two conditions are met: (i) That the deeds are done purely for Allah, and (ii) that they conform to the teachings of the Messengers. 4. That the scholars of religion are not infallible. 5. The danger of misguided scholars to the Ummah

2:161-162

Imam Ahmad, At-Tirmidhi and Ibn Jarir At-Tabari recorded a Hadith via several chains of narration, from `Adi bin Hatim (RA), who became Christian during the time of Jahiliyyah. Adi went to the Messenger of Allah (SAW) wearing a silver cross around his neck. The Messenger of Allah (SAW) recited this Ayah; They took their priests and their monks to be their lords besides Allah. `Adi commented, "I said, `They did not worship them.''' The Prophet (SAW)said, Yes they did. They (priests, rabbis and monks) prohibited the allowed for them (Christians and Jews) and allowed the prohibited, and they obeyed them. This is how they worshipped them .

An-Nu`man bin Bashir (RA) reported: Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "What is lawful is clear and what is unlawful is clear, but between them are certain doubtful things which many people do not know. So he who guards against doubtful things keeps his religion and his honor blameless. But he who falls into doubtful things falls into that which is unlawful. Verily, there is a piece of flesh in the body, if it is healthy, the whole body is healthy, and if it is corrupt, the whole body is corrupt. Verily, it is the heart.'' [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]. "Leave what causes you doubt and turn to what does not cause you doubt.'' [At-Tirmidhi].

2:161-162

Surah Saba 2:161-162 but if you could see when the Zlimn (polytheists and wrongdoers) will be made to stand before their Lord, how they will cast the (blaming) word one to another! Those who were deemed weak will say to those who were arrogant: "Had it not been for you, we should certainly have been believers! And those who were arrogant will say to those who were deemed weak: "Did we keep you back from guidance after it had come to you? Nay, but you were Mujrimn (polytheists, sinners, disbeliveres, criminals). Those who were deemed weak will say to those who were arrogant: "Nay, but it was your plotting by night and day, when you ordered us to disbelieve in Allh and set up rivals to Him!" And each of them (parties) will conceal their own regrets (for disobeying Allh during this worldly life), when they behold the torment. And We shall put iron collars round the necks of those who disbelieved. Are they requited aught except what they used to do? (34:31-33)
