An Explicit Theme is very clear and easy to find in the story. You don't have to search for it very much, and you can clearly understand what the story's trying to tell you. It's kind of like a moral to a story.

An implicit theme is a little harder to find in a story. It could be a theme that comes to you while reading or it's hidden in between the lines of the book.

Each reader brings to a story a personal a past, a present, and plans for the future. These elements shape our responses to the story. It seems absurd, then, to expect that diverse human being must agree that exactly that same ideas are most important, and must take from the story exactly the same themes. Traditional Literature
Traditional Literature The terms "folk/fairy tales" are interchangeable. They are called "folk" because they are part of the oral tradition handed down from generation to generation by the folk. The term "fairy" denotes the presence of magic, characters like dwarfs, leprechauns, and the like. The characteristics of folktales is presented in outline form below.

Theme - Often universal in quality (That means all people are capable of relating to it, such as unfair treatment by a sibling.) - Generally obvious and straightforward - Usually deals with conflict or contrast, for example good vs. evil

Mature Theme in Childrens Stories
