For this project I wished to focus on the idea of Urban Decay. This is an area that has always interested me, but Ive never felt brave enough to explore it fully. As thus this gave me an excuse to challenge myself with a camera, and let me open my eyes to new areas of beauty.

This, and another two images really helped to dictate what I did in my project namely the photography side of things. I wanted to capture the atmosphere such as in this photo, of run down desolated areas that are unloved. One of the big sources of inspiration was photos from the UrbEx book Beauty in Decay.

After experimenting with various mixes of media I started to research into John Piper, this was partly from suggestion by James to look into him.
His use of dark areas also helped to inspire my photography visual language

As part of my initial research I went to speak to the Old Mansfield Society, as originally I planned to work around just Mansfield trust me there are enough decaying buildings around here. The information I found helped to shape some of the areas I shot, however I soon decided that I wanted to go further afield and look around a city namely Nottingham. This also gave rise to one of my limitations that made this project so hard the weather.
