TOOTH ERUPTION AND SHEDDING

Presented By: ROSHNI SHARMA .

1

DEFINITION
Eruption refers to the axial or occlusal movement of the tooth from its developmental position in the jaw to its functional position in occlusal plane.

SHEDDING:The physiologic process resulting in the elimination of decidous dentition.

Primary dentition: 2 to 6 years of age

Mixed dentition: 6 to 12 years

Permanent dentition: > 12 years

5

At the age of 6-8 months

Gums are itchy or swollen when teeth start growing

Some infants have fever, diarrhea or emotionally stressed when teeth start to grow

At the age of 2 3 years old

All baby teeth should have erupted. Baby bottle tooth decay is a common problem. Well aligned baby teeth without spacing will probably reflect crooked permanent teeth later. If the baby teeth are spaced out, there would be ample space for permanent teeth to erupt nicely as they are larger.

At the age of 6-8 years old

The first permanent tooth to erupt is the first permanent molar. It usually expresses as a bulging of gum at the back of the last baby molar. It would erupt at 6 years of age. Associated with gum pain and fever.

Upper and lower baby central incisors would be loose as permanent incisors are erupting at the age of 7.

Double Teeth

At the age of 9-11 years old

Spacing will be seen between upper central incisors-UGLY DUCKLING STAGE Proclination of central incisors.

Wipe the teeth all round with clean gauze and cloth. Wipe the tongue as well gently.
Give a cold teether for the kid to bite. Dental check up at 3 6 months interval If eruption of tooth is late or early by 6 months compared to the normal is acceptable .

COMPLICATIONS OF TEETHING

Eruption Haematoma

Eruption sequestrum

Ectopic Eruption

Natal teeth and neonatal teeth

Early exfoliation of teeth

TRAUMA:
Due to accident Psychotic patients Radiation

HEREDITARY
Hypophosphatasia Cherubism Hypophosphataemia Chediak-higashi syndrome Coffin-Lowry syndrome Downs sndrome

Hyperpituitarism Hyperthyroidisnm Juvenile diabetes Papillion-lefevre syndrome

MISCELLANEOUS
Acrodynia

Premature loss of decidous teeth can cause drifting of adjacent teeth into the space. It can result in : Abnormal axial inclination of teeth Spacing between teeth Midline shift

BAND AND LOOP MAINTAINER:

For 1st and 2nd primary molar and canine area

DISTAL SHOE APPLIANCE:

For loss of 2nd primary molar before eruption of 1st permanent molar.

Nance or Band/Crown Loop

Maxillary problem with 1st permanent molar present

Lower Lingual Holding Arch:

Mandibular problem with 1st permanent molar and incisor present.
