Well, this is once again to do with the UK governments required standards for electrical installations in domestic dwellings.

The various parts of this legislation have different names. For example, the standards relating to the code of practice for earthing was written up in 1998 and is called BS 7430 (the BS stands for British Standard). The regulations require that any professional (or amateur) person who is part of designing and/or installing electrical installations needs a level of competency and working knowledge of the 17th edition wiring regulations.

This course aims to update delegates on the significant differences between the 16th and 17th editions. It will, therefore focus on the main additions and alterations that have been incorporated in the BS 7671 2008 (17th) edition. This course and qualification is suitable for practicing electricians, domestic electrical installers, contract managers, allied trades and other related trades with a good working knowledge of 16th Edition Wiring regs, who have already achieved the City & Guilds Certificate 16th Edition (BS 7671: 2001) (2381) or recognized equivalent to the City & Guilds 2381 since June 2001.

If you plan to work as an electrician, it is pertinent to hold the City and Guilds 2382 17th Edition of the Wiring Regulations qualification. To get this qualification, one has to pass the exam required - the 17th Edition Exam.
